I'm home alone today and except for whatsapping my friends have nothing to do with this incandescent rage and hopeless sadness.

Anyone else need to talk? Sad

Another one who can’t get passed how terrifying it must have been for her when the reality of the situation dawned. A whole life term must surely be the only sentence possible here.

foodanfagsjokiing · 29/09/2021 14:36

Absolutely bloody shocking. I have a daughter in her 20s and I cannot imagine the sheer horror and pain that Sarah went through and now her poor family !I just cannot bare this..how did that sick evil creature pull this horrendous crime off .Am not going to read anymore about this because it's so sickening!

HangingOver · 29/09/2021 14:38

I keep thinking about how scared she must have felt as she slowly realised the truth

Any of us who have been alone in a cab and had the driver taken an unexpected route and suddenly had that lightening bolt feeling of how fucking vulnerable you actually are being in a car alone with a strange man have probably been imagining this too. It's bone chilling.

I cried when I read the bbc report just now. The poor poor woman. I knew they were withholding details for the trial but no idea is was as bad as this.

MarshmallowSwede · 29/09/2021 14:40

Women have to stay vigilant. It’s not really much she could have done. We are taught that we should obey the police.. but what if he is the one looking to rape and murder you?

It’s really just a complete nightmare… women are damned if we do .. damned if we don’t.

I don’t really know what to say. I don’t have any advice to give that we haven’t already heard.

Be careful, don’t walk at night, be cautious, be careful what men we get involved with, make sure if we are pulled over by police then we should drive to a well lit location.. carry a whistle, don’t drink , stay in an group..

Besides us developing super hero strength I don’t know what else women can do.

MrsRobbieHart · 29/09/2021 14:40

TintinIsBack · 29/09/2021 14:41

@DoraMaude

It's one of the worst things I've ever read. That poor woman. However he is the one to blame - I don't think we should diminish this in any way by seeking to hold anyone else to account. He is an evil man who was entirely responsible for this. Not all men. Not the police.
I disagree.

The reason why he was allowed to still wal around the street is because of the endemic misogyny in the Police forces.
The reason why his happens is because men, as a class, feel they just can and will risk little.
After all, until then he hadn’t had any repercussions for his behaviour. And who knows what he as done before but was never reported….
So yes all men because until the so called ‘good men’ are actually decent enough to call out any other men misbehaving/objecting women/partake in ‘locker room’ talk nothing will ever change. It also means THEY are part if the problem too.

Thank you OP. I've been checking MN in the hope that there would be a thread. I have been tearful ever since I read the news earlier. The poor, poor woman. I honestly feel a deep sense a despair.

GingerAndTheBiscuits · 29/09/2021 14:42

What about a list for what men should do instead?

FlorenceWintle · 29/09/2021 14:43

I just knew, absolutely knew, that he used his warrant card. There was a thread on here at the time where people were saying he might have just dragged her into the car but that never seemed plausible to me. Disgusting abuse of his position and just….yeah…no words.

Yes. All of this. I don’t go out anymore unless driving but when I did I was never sure if I was safer getting a cab or walking home. I usually trumped for walking home as I guessed if something were to happen me there might be others around to witness it whereas in a cab, you’re trapped.

I don’t remember it being reported at all, though suspect if it was reported to the police at the time they worked out very quickly who was responsible?
jillandhersprite · 29/09/2021 14:44

I also saw the headline and clicked on it and now its playing on my mind. I have daughters and in the last few years I have felt sick rather than optimistic about the world they are now part of...

Sockwomble · 29/09/2021 14:44

"How come this news that people saw her being arrested is only being released now? Did they not report it at the time she was missing or they did but the police didn’t release it?"

Presumably they wanted to make sure they nailed the bastard. I hope he never sees the light of day.

BeenAsFarAsMercyAndGrand · 29/09/2021 14:44

The police are accountable because he shouldn't have had his fucking warrant card. It should have been taken from him the day he committed indecent exposure.

Having been in a very similar situation myself, but luckily not murdered, I can imagine only too well what she will have felt. I hope the bastard gets life.

FrankWelker · 29/09/2021 14:45

I agree she did not stand a chance. I like to think I am so so clever but if a policeman with a warrant card handcuffed me I also would have gone willingly.
When it dawned on her that something was up she must have been petrified.
I too hope he gets a whole life tariff
Poor poor woman and her family

MrsRobbieHart · 29/09/2021 14:45

I don’t think it has been reported By the press until today. Yes if people reported their sightings of her being arrested at the time when she was still missing then the police will have known very quickly who he was, which actually we already know they had a fair idea. Web sleuths had a lot of information that showed they were watching him for some time before they arrested him.

Thanks @BeenAsFarAsMercyAndGrand. I’m so sorry for you and glad you’re still here with us x

Gimlisaxe · 29/09/2021 14:46

Sadly I am not surprised how this went down. The really sad thing is after this trial, there is going to be another of a woman walking 5 minutes to meet her friends, then I am sure there is going to be another and another.

In the meantime, the more we scream, the more women will be told, its not all men, you shouldn't be out late at night, you shouldn't have had that drink, you shouldn't have been wearing xyz, you shouldn't have been alone. What are we meant to do other than lock ourselves up in our house safe and snug. Wait some of us can't even do that

Claudethecat · 29/09/2021 14:47

If he doesn't get a whole-life sentence, I think we need to get out on the streets to protest.

Ghostsintheshelf · 29/09/2021 14:47

I don't know why it makes it worse when the result is the same (raped and murdered no matter how he got her into the car), but somehow this shocked me. It really reinforced she didn't stand a chance.
I don't believe in capital punishment but I hope he has the most terrible time in prison. I hope other prisoners make his life a living hell for what he put this woman and her family and her friends through.
And I'm so angry that he wasn't investigated. He's going around waving his cock at random women and they report him, and nothing. He shouldn't have had that warrant card.

TikTokNutcases · 29/09/2021 14:47

Just sickening.

Thank you for posting OP, I haven't watched the news so didn't know there had been an update. I'm so saddened by what I've just read.

I remember when he was first arrested alot of people speculated that he would have used his warrant card in some way. It doesn't surprise me to learn that was the case, but it's still devastating.

Grotesque abuse of his position of trust.

I hope he gets tortured in prison.

FlorenceWintle · 29/09/2021 14:47

They don’t release all the evidence they have before the actual trial.
