I'm home alone today and except for whatsapping my friends have nothing to do with this incandescent rage and hopeless sadness.

Anyone else need to talk? Sad

Harriet Harman, local MP, quite rightly calling for Cressida Dick's resignation.

bookworm14 · 30/09/2021 12:18

Thank God for that. Now throw away the key and let the fucker rot.

IntermittentParps · 30/09/2021 12:18

@MakingM

I’ve tried to avoid this as much as possible tbh. It’s just too much, but I read this morning that a couple saw the “arrest” and just continued on their way because they thought it was an official doing his job.

I have no words.

Would any of us have intervened? I’m hope those people get help. I think I’d be physically sick if I found out that had been me…and what happened to her.

None of the punishments a civilised country has are enough to deliver justice for what he has destroyed.

It’s just horrific. The whole thing.

Sadly I cannot honestly say I would have intervened. Like many of us, overall I (used to) trust the police.

Now though? I feel much more emboldened to say to anyone in that position, 'You have double-checked ID with the station, haven't you?' and hope they'd feel they could do the same for me.

Gimlisaxe · 30/09/2021 12:19

@Nosafeguardingadults

Plenty of people of this thread have continued to keep saying that nearly 3 women a week are killed by men, we are all capable of being deeply shocked by this and still horrified by the sentences handed down by judges for rape and domestic violence.

Ultimately it needs to start somewhere with people, for some it will be this case, for others it started when we were abused ourselves and found out how little authorities cared.

Ewan83 · 30/09/2021 12:19

I hope he is feeling just an inkling of fear of what’s to come in prison as he’s taken down… it won’t be anything like what poor Sarah endured but still I hope he’s feeling just a tiny bit of fear right now… the not knowing. See how he likes his own medicine.

Lampzade · 30/09/2021 12:19

@FlorenceWintle

The judge is right to say what he did has eroded the confidence the public is entitled to have in the police.
Absolutely
Pumperthepumper · 30/09/2021 12:20

Glad to see the sentence.

I hope he lives a long, long life and never knows a second of peace for any of it.

Lampzade · 30/09/2021 12:20

@Evesgarden

Obviously I am glad he got the sentence he received but no way was this his first offence. What he did was depraved and monstrous. This was not his first and only venture in to this kind of attack, there must be more, even on a lesser scale.
This is what I believe.
SickAndTiredAgain · 30/09/2021 12:20

I hate that it's been reported by so many as a crime having been committed by an 'ex-policeman'. Misleading as he was obviously a serving policeman when he raped and murdered her. And the Met spokesperson yesterday saying they didn't consider him to have been a policeman. All about fixing the corporate image.

I agree. And they still considered him a police officer despite the previous complaints against him.

Mulhollandmagoo · 30/09/2021 12:21

I'm so pleased, I honestly could cry! a very small comfort to her family, who have been so brave, and strong and dignified on her behalf. Her mum is an absolute hero Flowers

A strong message sent to violent and predatory men today!

StrychnineInTheSandwiches · 30/09/2021 12:21

Cressida Dick should have gone after the killing of Jean Charles de Menezes And yet here she is, still fucking up..
augustusglupe · 30/09/2021 12:21

My DD is in London. I've absolutely told her to run and scream if she's stopped by police. She can deal with the consequences later.
She'll be alive!!
I feel sick, angry and depressed for all women just now

ThatCampWitch · 30/09/2021 12:21

The right sentence has been passed. A truly horrific awful case, one that has opened up a much wider, and very necessary conversation about the epidemic of violence against women and girls committed by men. Earlier in the thread there were a fair few comments from those of you who felt the need to hector us and try to police conversation about the role that MEN play in MALE violence. 95% of the prison population are men. Men are almost 100% of convicted sex offenders. Perhaps it isn’t ALL men, but it is ALWAYS men. Doing your NAMALT routine won’t keep you any safer than the rest of us who can recognise this for what it is.

RIP Sarah Flowers

Whitney168 · 30/09/2021 12:21

Am just listening to the coverage on Radio 2 - apart from all the other utterly sickening stuff, his poor family that he took them there for a day out.

RedDogsBeg · 30/09/2021 12:21

Whole life sentence, excellent. May he rot in fear for the rest of his days.

SunshineCake1 · 30/09/2021 12:22

@Rosehip10

How is it not pre-mediated when he ordered tape and restraints etc in the days before, hired the car etc?
Maybe trying to argue not premeditated against Sarah Everard?
FourTeaFallOut · 30/09/2021 12:22

Sorry for posting. Is horrible what happen to her but is upsetting seeing people care only about one woman like domestic violence murders not as important.

How can you have read this thread and make this assumption? There are 38 pages of women talking about violence against women and girls and the injustices done every day.

Maverickess · 30/09/2021 12:22

Good.
Bastard.
Now forget him and keep his name out the press, but Sarah's and every other woman killed by a man should be always remembered.

Bbq1 · 30/09/2021 12:24

@Claudethecat

Do you expect her father or boyfriend to take some responsibility

Christ, I never said anything even remotely along those lines, and it's a horrible thing to suggest that I am. I'm not going to argue with you on this as the whole thing is just too bloody upsetting and sickening.

You actually did as you said "all men need to take collective responsibility" for what happened to poor Sarah at the hands of that evil excuse for a human. All men would include Sarah's friends and family. I don't think blaming all men for a heinous crime committed by one man is helpful nor is blaming all women for the wicked crimes of Hindley. Hope Sarah rests in peace and my thoughts are with her family.
NewlyGranny · 30/09/2021 12:24

The Net calling him an ex-police officer is disingenuous, if not outright dishonest, as he was a serving officer with a current warrant and all the kit when he murdered Sarah Everard.

They only sacked him afterwards, when he pleaded guilty!

By that reckoning, no police officers ever commit crimes, do they? Rewriting events. Disgraceful.

Simonjt · 30/09/2021 12:24

It isn’t good news, but its the closest we’ll get

StrychnineInTheSandwiches · 30/09/2021 12:24

He's going to be a marked man in prison. Lifers will be taking turns to mete out serious punishments on him. Too bad, Wayne.

Gimlisaxe · 30/09/2021 12:24

Also, the fact he was shaken and upset,

That is because he got caught, not because he had done something horrific.

BrilloPaddy · 30/09/2021 12:25

A relief for once when a Judge hands down a sentence.

HangingOver · 30/09/2021 12:25

I find the footage of him buying hot chocolate afterwards so weird and chilling for some reason.
