I'm home alone today and except for whatsapping my friends have nothing to do with this incandescent rage and hopeless sadness.

Anyone else need to talk? Sad

What do we do? I am so angry that the Met at the very least allowed this man to escalate. I want the police to confront this, publically, and something to be done. Resignations, sure. A change to the law on how arrests work, even better. But SOMETHING.

I cannot stop thinking about this young woman and her poor, poor family. The statements in court were gut-wrenching. I have no words.

LizBennet · 30/09/2021 12:27

His cheery call to the vet a few hours later is unbelievable. Evil bastard.

viques · 30/09/2021 12:27

@RedDogsBeg

Whole life sentence, excellent. May he rot in fear for the rest of his days.
I expect he will do what West and Shipman did.

Whole life sentence

It can’t bring her back but at least that cunt is locked up for good

monarchoftheglen · 30/09/2021 12:28

@Maverickess

Good. Bastard. Now forget him and keep his name out the press, but Sarah's and every other woman killed by a man should be always remembered.
Absolutely this
RedDogsBeg · 30/09/2021 12:28

@Gimlisaxe

Also, the fact he was shaken and upset,

That is because he got caught, not because he had done something horrific.

Yes it was purely self pity not remorse.
gildalily · 30/09/2021 12:28

Life. I'm so glad. I hope that the rest of his life is spent in fear and he's never able to relax and feel safe.

I don't think blaming all men for a heinous crime committed by one man is helpful nor is blaming all women for the wicked crimes of Hindley.

Hindley was 60 years, Rose West was 30 years ago, these examples keep being used, despite the fact that 1 woman every 3 days are killed by men.

It starts off low level with most, they build up, so while I won't blame men for the crime that has been commited, I can blame them for where it starts, yelling at women, making them feeling vulnerable by following them, by not taking no for an answer, for laughing at sexist jokes, for just standing by while their mate does all of this.

wewereliars · 30/09/2021 12:29

It was argued that buying the tape and petrol after the murder, when he could have easily have bought it before, shows the murder and disposal of Sarah by fire was not pre meditated.

Obviously did not wash with HH Judge Fulford.

RIP Sarah

Bet all the money in the world most women murdered be more like Sophie Moss sentence.

You can't have been looking if you think that passed unnoticed and without anger here.

BigGreen · 30/09/2021 12:30

@Whitney168

Am just listening to the coverage on Radio 2 - apart from all the other utterly sickening stuff, his poor family that he took them there for a day out.
Totally, I really feel for his wife and kids.
NewlyGranny · 30/09/2021 12:30

I thinks it's not about all men taking responsibility for heinous crimes of violence against women and girls, it's more about all men feeling a responsibility to raise boys to respect women and to challenge disrespectful talk and actions wherever they encounter them.

Women do it too, of course, but all men are in a better place to hear the disgusting "locker-room" misogyny that gets bandied about when women aren't there. All women are forced to experience and need to challenge the misogynistic behaviours that happen when we are around men, and that's way more risky than what we're asking of all men!

goldengrove · 30/09/2021 12:31

I hope that his whole life term will be made as unpleasant as possible for him for as long as possible by all who have to deal or live with him. In his place I would certainly try to do away with myself soon (as it seems he already tried to do following his arrest). Interesting to read the attempts at mitigation by his defence. 'Depression'..... ? hmmm. Can depression really drive people to do things like this? Scary. Porn and prostitutes were likely a large part of his sad sleazy life and must have played a role. My heart goes out not only to Sarah's family - who have had such an undeserved whole life sentence inflicted on them all - but also to his poor wife and children who have had another kind of life sentence inflicted on them. His duplicity in (presumably) keeping up appearances on the family front is breathtaking. So many victims from a single episode of pure evil.

Where does all this evil come from? In what dark places is it fed and nurtured? Most concerning of all is that it can wear such a convincing face and masquerade as a family man, professional protector of the vulnerable and upholder of the law.

ThatCampWitch · 30/09/2021 12:31

This. Stop bringing this up. It’s irrelevant compared to the scale of the epidemic of male violence against women. You’re embarrassing yourselves.

nosafeguardingadults · 30/09/2021 12:31

Is more important to stop women being murdered than sentence murderer when too late to save her.

nosafeguardingadults · 30/09/2021 12:33

Interesting to read the attempts at mitigation by his defence. 'Depression'.....

Worked as defence when a man murdered his wife in Wales last year. He got 2 years.

Soozikinzi · 30/09/2021 12:33

Yes it's terrible they just read her mums statement out on Jeremy Vine . Heartbreaking. If you're on your own and it's getting too much I would try to get some relief from it . It's so bad it could really send you into despair. Sarah sounded such a beautiful person.

Can things be equally important? Also how do we stop men murdering women if sentencing them after 'isn't important' nothing you are saying makes any sense and contradicts something you have previously said
AmDillDandin · 30/09/2021 12:36

@nosafeguardingadults

It's not either/or.

Do you think ^lesser* sentences for murderers would help at all?

Nosafeguardingadults · 30/09/2021 12:36

Sentencing is important but more important is not needing it in first place. Things could be done to stop lots of women being murdered but not enough people care cos things needed cost money.

52andblue · 30/09/2021 12:36

@IfImLyingImDying

But it’s not enough.

The real proof will be in what the Met do next and how they are also held to account.

YES. Not only the Met, but Police forces throughout the UK. And the Judiciary too.

This was a particularly appalling crime which has highlighted the risks women (& kids) are exposed to by predatory men. It MUST end.
