Names that are never coming back

543 replies

Beancounter1 · 23/09/2021 18:13

Names that been in common use since about 1850 (so nothing from ancient history like Ethelberger or whatever), that are well and truly dead, as in no babies are likely to be called this now.

How about:
Mildred ?
Edna ?
Mortimer ?

Can you think of any others?

Nearly every band mentioned either was never in anyway or will come back round when the generation who had them before start dying out.

I know of a Gary born in 2001 and another in 2015. So none since 1992 is bollocks tbh.

@MintJulia

My elderly aunts were called Violet, Mona and Gertrude.

I'm not sure any of their names will, be back in a hurry

Violet is already on the rise

I expected my name to be mentioned here as it’s very “of its time” and not in a good way, but nobody has suggested it (yet). I’ve googled it and apparently no babies have been given that name in the past few years, so no doubt people who want their child to be “unique” will be picking it very soon!

You don't see many Sylvias or Cynthias. Shame. I love the name Sylvia. If I'd another daughter that's what I'd call her.
It seems like Sylvia (and Sylvie) are all over the baby name threads these days
