Names that are never coming back

543 replies

Beancounter1 · 23/09/2021 18:13

Names that been in common use since about 1850 (so nothing from ancient history like Ethelberger or whatever), that are well and truly dead, as in no babies are likely to be called this now.

How about:
Mildred ?
Edna ?
Mortimer ?

Can you think of any others?

@MintJulia

My elderly aunts were called Violet, Mona and Gertrude.

I'm not sure any of their names will, be back in a hurry

Violet is popular at the moment.

@Onehotmess

I know 17 Ethelburgers. 4 of them are my own children.
Queen Ethelbugers by any chance?

My dd is 24 and had an unusual old name. It's now in the top 15.

@GoodnightGrandma

Tammy. Called Tammy Tampax at our school.
We also had a Tammy tampax at our school. It could be the same Tammy or there could be a Tammy tampax dwelling in every town. Probably has changed her name and now has psychological issues..

Isn’t Milly short for Mildred? Or Millicent maybe??

felulageller · 23/09/2021 21:52

So many of the popular names now people 30 years ago would have said would never come back - Lily, Alfie, Archie, Ava, Olivia, Oliver.

Names that have developed negative connotations won't be back- Adolf and Myra etc.
Also recent criminals:
Levi, Denis,

Karen has been ruined.
Donald has been ruined by Trump.

Names that have started to be used by girls will die out for boys: Riley, Mackenzie, Blake,

Sexual names: Chastity, Bunny, Lolita,

Celebrity names:
The 5 K's etc

My grandma was an Ethel, born at the end of the 19th Century. Her mum was a Fanny (not Frances) born in 1864.
