Is anyone else following this news story?

Fucking hell I hope she is found. So many things about the timeline don't add up.

@HelenaRavenclaw

They have issued an arrest warrant for Brian now.

For fraud.

For fraud.

Seriously? I listen to lots of US true crime podcasts and the ways that the police and the justice system works is often incomprehensible. Sometimes they will act with impunity and another seem to have their hands tied behind their backs. Do they think that there isn't enough evidence?

I'm just going to say it. If BL was black they would have got him for murder by now.

They probably only have circumstantial evidence. They usually find something more minor to get someone into an interrogation room.

The fraud charge will be related to the fact he was apparently using an “unauthorised card”, probably Gabby’s. More info in this thread:

The issue is that Gabby was murdered in one state and she and Brian lived in another.

Although Brian is a 'person of interest' in the murder of Gabby, the state where they live have no grounds to arrest him.

Whichever state he's found in, there are now grounds to arrest him.

State officials can then travel to wherever he is, interview him and possibly extradite him back to the state the murder occurred.

It's a bizarre, legal minefield.

Surely when a crime crosses state lines, that’s when it becomes a federal crime and the FBI have authority? He’s committed a murder, and has crossed multiple state lines?

No, he is a person of interest in a murder case. We don't know for sure that he has committed a murder, although there is clearly strong circumstantial evidence.

Crossing state lines does not automatically make this into a federal crime. If he crossed state lines for the purpose of criminal activity this may be placed in the hands of a federal prosecutor but there does not appear to be any evidence that this is the case. Gabby does not appear to have been murdered on federal property, nor was she an elected or appointed federal official so, on my understanding of US law, this is not a federal crime.

Credit card and ATM fraud, on the other hand, are always federal crimes. Hence the FBI has an arrest warrant over card fraud.

@Orangejuicemarathoner

This case is of two people in the public eye, internationally known, loads of footage available of them and their relationship and a huge mystery, firstly with one missing, now the other, nothing resolved.

You’re making them sound much more famous than they are. Gabby had 21k YouTube followers before she died, it jumped to 60k after she died. Similarly, she had a few hundred thousand followers on Instagram and the media made much of hitting the 1m milestone AFTER her death.

They were not ‘internationally known’ or in the ‘public eye’.

Sabina Nessa's case is completely different, a man has already been arrested for murder, neither of them a public personality, no mystery, nothing to speculate on

Of course there is. Many of us want to know what happened that night, why her killer targeted her, did anyone witness anything, has he done it before.

That post you found keeps sticking in my mind. The one that mentions the storage unit and him packing her things up with his father because he doesn’t care about her anymore. I keep wondering who would have that kind of detail. It’s is especially creepy now that the news came out he flew home and cleaned out a storage unit, then apparently flew back to Utah and she was dead within a few days.

Where did you find it?

How do we think this guy is realistically surviving on the run? Like food and drink? What are the weather conditions like in the area he is expected to be?

To update it's just been announced that Gabby died by strangulation. I'm so sad for Gabby and her family.

Do you think there will be a confession in the journal that was found?

What does it mean by human remains? Seems different to just a body being found.

Anyway screams of guilt clearly. Shame justice was not served in the proper way.

He was home long enough to make a good plan for escape before anyone realised about Gabby. Maybe this is a ruse.

This is a sad update. Sad there was no justice for Gabby and her parents and sad for his parents too. They have to deal with what their son did and now the fact he's gone. Two wasted young lives.
