Is anyone else following this news story?

Fucking hell I hope she is found. So many things about the timeline don't add up.

I don't see every suspicious death as an opportunity to make a political point.

It's sad that she's been found deceased of course, but I'm increasingly irritated by the amount of coverage and conversation this is getting, I can only assume it's because she's young, white, pretty. There was a woman missing and later found murdered in London over the weekend, it's pretty much dropped off the news already.

I agree about this.

If the London murder is the same one that I saw, wasn't she a teacher? Absolutely tragic but very sparse in terms of coverage.

If anyone js wondering, yes, she was black.

The officer recommends prescription drugs to improve her demeanor and attitude - it improved his life when his wife was on them!

This is absolutely disgusting.

I’m in the US and the details that came out initially were quite strange, I that that is what drew the attention really. He drove back a long distance home in her vehicle without her and refused to tell her parents anything. That is a pretty big hook for a story.

That bodycam footage is disastrous. No wonder so many women are murdered - no matter what their colour.
It takes nothing at all for the cops to bond with the guy and believe he is the victim. Indeed one of the cops even chimes "I know, I have been married five years (wry laugh and all)". They are so gentle and decent with him.
It beggars belief. It is absolutely devastating.
This is, and should remain, another story of extreme violence against a woman where the other men were hoodwinked due to their own fucking prejudice.

@HelenaRavenclaw I wouldn’t call the police thick but a review found in lots of states the chances of solving a murder was under 50%! They were missing tons of murders too and writing them off as accidents or suicides

Watch the bodycam footage and see his reaction when he realises what's happened - he laughs.
He repeatedly checks with officers what their plans are and only admits at that point that it's her van and packs a bag to be taken to the DV shelter.
Listen to the conversation in the car en route to the DV shelter. The officer recommends prescription drugs to improve her demeanor and attitude - it improved his life when his wife was on them!

This is a case that deserves worldwide protest to raise awareness of systemic failures in DV cases!

Not enough people care. Will keep happening lots more murders. Even more suicides cos we end up suicidal.

Happened same sort of thing what happened with her police to me. Worst time was female officers. Probably coincidence but made it worse. Stupid to think that way but felt female ones would understand more. I was too scared to tell the truth and when my partner told them I was mental and controlling, they believed him. He'd threatened me with a knife before they got there and aggressive in front of them. They referred him to a domestic abuse service. Am in UK so it happens here too not just America.

Not just police and police actually been better mostly than most other places meant to help. So many places let you down. I've tried to get help lots of times since seven years first had police. Now don't trust anywhere. Some nice places and people including some kind police including two male officers who really tried to help but I couldn't tell them the truth cos councils don't care so you end up homeless if you tell truth. Not enough people care. I posted about things when places let me down and people don't believe me or don't care.

I don't think this is the case now, though initially it may have been a factor, along with the fact that the couple lived their lives on social media.

In the US the policing angle is starting to gather steam because of the well publicised failure of the police. This comes in the context of BLM and the highlighting of toxic policing culture.

Does anyone have a recommendation for where I can I read the whole story from an established news outlet? I'm not interested in having to cobble together bits and pieces from awful amateur band wagoners like the man in the clip above. My Facebook news feed is filled with unasked for little videos about this case these last few days. What a strange world we live in.

Thats rubbish

This case is of two people in the public eye, internationally known, loads of footage available of them and their relationship and a huge mystery, firstly with one missing, now the other, nothing resolved.

Sabina Nessa's case is completely different, a man has already been arrested for murder, neither of them a public personality, no mystery, nothing to speculate on

And yet , from my perspective, Sabina Nessa is all over everywhere, and I had never heard of Gabby Petito until I opened this thread.

Your perception is totally skewed by your own biases and experiences.

Two young women gone and their families destroyed. And you have to use it to make a dig by making up a completely invalid accusation of racism by unfairly and subjectively comparing two completely unrelated and incomparable sets of circumstances

The state in which poor Gabby was killed has literally HUNDREDS of missing aboriginal women. Anyone know their names?

@Window1 and it took the police longer to find her as she wasn’t on the footpath, how inconvenient for the police that a murder victim wasn’t easily arranged for them.

Jesus! A young woman is murdered by a stranger and you dismiss her death in such a callous and cold way because it wasn’t as high profile and mysterious for you???

I would imagine Sabrina’s family will spend the rest of their lives tormenting themselves with ‘what ifs’. Have some respect for their grief. Don’t use her death to point score against someone else.

There are I think reasons why it has caught the media (social media attention, the mystery etc) but surely it is a good thing because it looks like she was in an abusive relationship with DV that escalated and ultimately he killed her.

If this shines a light on that and some of the reactions of people and the police then that can only be a good thing

Yes, I’ve been following this too. Strange how many of these cases seem to happen in Utah too.

Report

@Window1 She's Indian not black and I'm pretty sure the American case is getting attention because it is believed her boyfriend killed her. Just like how the recent case in the UK with the whole family killed by the boyfriend is getting attention. It's not so much who was killed but who killed them that gets the attention.

The Sabina case is very much on front page news still and I hope they find whoever is responsible!
