I mean it's obviously breadcake but I've heard some people disagree?

It's a bread cake - unless it's got sultanas and currants in it - then it's a Tea cake.

YANBU!

Bread cake sounds like the heaviest, stodgiest bread roll ever 😂

Dinkydody · 03/09/2021 14:07

@Mrsjayy

Surprised at all the roll people. Doesn't that get confusing if you want to buy a sausage roll?

No because that's a Roll n Sausage silly 😜

Or a roll and square 😁

I’m in Scotland and call it a roll.
My family in NE. Scotland call it a softie
Regional variations

Thelnebriati · 03/09/2021 14:14

Rolls are crispy, baps are soft.

NanaPorsche · 03/09/2021 14:17

Went in a butchers where I used to work and the person in front asked for half dozen scufflers. I thought she was asking for pigs trotters. She was given bread cakes.

danadas · 03/09/2021 15:16

It's defo a batch.

And the alleyway at the back of terraced houses is an entry.

Also it is lolly ice

Hope that helps Grin

NotMyCat · 03/09/2021 16:33

Now I want chips, scraps and Irish curry sauce
Or a pasty on a buttered barm with brown sauce

Tempusfudgeit · 03/09/2021 16:37

Love the thought of a non-native English speaker reading this thread 🤣

Oldraver · 03/09/2021 16:38

Cob, first time out in Swindon I asked for a ham cob

DH has to translate

SquigglePigs · 03/09/2021 16:53

Roll or cob. To my wider family it would be a barm cake or a flour cake.
