I mean it's obviously breadcake but I've heard some people disagree?

Let's not confuse anyone in the chippy & ask for

Babby's yed, chips, pea wet.

TenThousandSpoons · 03/09/2021 11:21

Roll. Sometimes bun (if it’s got a burger in it). Never heard of breadcake. Cob I’ve heard of and think it’s northern.

Mrsjayy · 03/09/2021 11:21

scallops. My mum used to just fry sliced potatoes in the pan and call them scallops. No batter

I sometimes do this if we are having meatballs and don't fancy spaghetti it's the dogs dodahs Smile

Breadcakes.

elenacampana · 03/09/2021 11:25

100% a barm cake. I could consider roll though.

marypoppinsreturns · 03/09/2021 11:49

Roll. West of Scotland.

AdaColeman · 03/09/2021 12:19

@iklboo I need to know what Babby's yed and pea wet are! At a guess, steak & kidney suet pudding? Along the lines of jam roly poly suet pudding being called a drowned babby?

Bizjustgotreal · 03/09/2021 12:20

Chips + breadcake = chip butty

Barmcakes here in Manchester.

Dandy0911 · 03/09/2021 12:23

Roll

Bap / bun is what burgers go in

WhiskeyNeverStartsToTasteNice · 03/09/2021 12:33

It's a roll. Or a barm if I'm visiting my northern relatives.

cheesemarmitepanini · 03/09/2021 12:34

Roll

dementedpixie · 03/09/2021 12:35

@BarbaraofSeville

Surprised at all the roll people. Doesn't that get confusing if you want to buy a sausage roll?
No

No..?
dementedpixie · 03/09/2021 12:36

@BarbaraofSeville a sausage roll is a savoury pastry with sausage meat inside. A roll and sausage is a bread roll with sausage(square or links) inside

cheesemarmitepanini · 03/09/2021 12:38

@imnottoofussed

but if going to the chippy its definitely a chip barm
Don't be silly. It's a chip buttie (Kent/London)
eandz13 · 03/09/2021 12:42

Barm/barmcake!

BeckyWithTheGoodHair5629456 · 03/09/2021 12:57

Roll

ExecutiveHodCarrier · 03/09/2021 13:00

@Bizjustgotreal

Chips + breadcake = chip butty
I asked for a fish butty in my local Geordie chip shop. They asked if I was from Yorkshire and I said yes….they apparently get a lot of Yorkshire and Lancashire tradesman asking for a ‘fish butty’ but they don’t hear it from the locals!
PissedOffNeighbour22 · 03/09/2021 13:08

Breadcake or possibly bap at a push. I'm in Yorkshire.
My DP drives me mad as he calls them muffins (he's from Stalybridge). Pisses me off when he comes back from Tesco saying he's picked up some muffins and they turn out to be breadcakes Angry.

imnottoofussed · 03/09/2021 13:43

@cheesemarmitepanini only a chip butty if its made with sliced bread Grin

Agreed 👍🏻

Welshmumma92 · 03/09/2021 13:50

Bap

haliborange0verdose · 03/09/2021 13:56

It's a barm if it's a sandwich or just buttered to dip in soup etc.

If there's a burger involved then it's a burger bun.
