I mean it's obviously breadcake but I've heard some people disagree?

Breadcake. West Yorkshire.

I had an elderly neighbour who called them teacakes though. And he called the ones with fruit in ‘currant teacakes’

Stotties up here in the north east although they seem a bit different - flatter and more floury

Mrsjayy · 03/09/2021 10:19

A tea cake is a chocolate biscuit surely

Manicpixiedreammollusc · 03/09/2021 10:19

Stottie :) (Geordie….)

LizBennet · 03/09/2021 10:20

A tea cake has currants in it.

weekend2021 · 03/09/2021 10:21

None - it's a BARM!

BammBamm · 03/09/2021 10:25

Barm

StarryStarrySocks · 03/09/2021 10:26

It's a roll. Confused

Tempusfudgeit · 03/09/2021 10:26

Roll. Rolly rolly roll roll. Unless you ask my Northern husband who will say bap. We enjoy a mixed marriage.

PeonyTime · 03/09/2021 10:27

Needs an image, but none of your options.

HunterHearstHelmsley · 03/09/2021 10:27

It's obviously a cob. Sometimes a crusty cob.

LadyDanburysHat · 03/09/2021 10:28

Breadcake? WTF! Never heard that one.

It is a bread bun or a roll. I live in Scotland so more likely to say roll these days.

StevieNix · 03/09/2021 10:29

It’s a bread roll.

Beautiful3 · 03/09/2021 10:29

You forgot batch! It's batch here.

BlackeyedSusan · 03/09/2021 10:30

Cob

JudgeRindersMinder · 03/09/2021 10:30

Roll (Scotland)

BarbaraofSeville · 03/09/2021 10:30

When I worked in a bakery in Leeds we sold breadcakes, tea cakes and currant tea cakes. Tea cakes were slightly sweet, intended to be toasted and spread with butter and jam, as opposed to breadcakes, which were were used for savoury sandwiches. None of that sliced bread nonsense, oh no.

Stottie (oven bottom)

BarbaraofSeville · 03/09/2021 10:31

Surprised at all the roll people. Doesn't that get confusing if you want to buy a sausage roll?

Beautiful3 · 03/09/2021 10:31

@LadyDanburysHat when went to Liverpool I had to ask for a chip bread cake at the chippie! As they didht understamd my request for a chip batch! I kept asking it's not a cake is it? Just bread right?! Lol

GoodMorrowFairMaiden · 03/09/2021 10:31
