Has anyone ever went to school/worked with or just knew before they became famous? Just wondering as I don't know anybody who is famous 😀 and what were they like ?

I often sat next to a very well-known white haired 'elf' and 'blacksmith/pirate of the Caribbean' in art class. He made zero impact on me to the degree that even when a school friend pointed out to me we had known him at school, it still didn't click!

I don’t understand why people are not saying who the famous people are.

Because this is mumsnet and everything is so "outing" Lisa Riley was a couple of years below me at school.

The actress I went to school with has, to the best of my knowledge, left the industry and is no longer in the public eye, so it doesn’t seem fair to name her

Then why bother posting at all?

"I knew an anonymous actress years ago that I wont name on an anonymous site in case someone remembers her from a film everyone may have forgotten" .... errr.....thanks for that!

My ds is friends with a former X Factor star.. Ds has additional needs and the XF star really looks after him when he goes to see him perform. There were no taxis after the last gig so he drove. Ds home at midnight. Im friends with him on FB so I messaged him and thanked him. My Mum knitted something for his baby who was born recently!

I'm famous ;) and am no different to most people, still struggle with parenting, fitting it all in and never feeling quite good enough.

depending on your level of fame, celebs generally have much more money so that does make you different.

I went to school with a girl who became a very famous actress who appeared in Coronation Street for several years in the 90s. She was a couple of years younger than me, so I didn’t really know her, but everyone was aware of her because she took the lead role in all the school’s dance & drama productions.

She was very pretty, so she became a fixture in the tabloids & ‘lads mags’ until she had some highly publicised personal problems. I believe she then left the entertainment industry to get married & have a family.

Tracey Shaw? I always wondered what happened to her, you never see her at all anymore and she was very high profile as you say.

I saw Michael Jackson in Studio 54 in New York.

Was that before he was famous? So, when he was five? Before Studio 54 opened?

The OP’s question was, did you know a famous person BEFORE they were famous. Not ‘here’s an excuse to tell us about a famous person you once saw’.

My partner went to school with someone who is an actress and starred in a Netflix show. She was nice at school and got all the best parts in the plays. She/her agent has shaved 3 years and counting off her age though…

I was at primary school in Kenya in the same small class as 2 well known TV presenters: Saba Douglas-Hamilton of Big Cat Diaries and Damian Grammaticus who is a BBC correspondent. Saba was pretty quiet but Damian had star quality even then, he was very personable and easy to talk to and all the girls fancied him in year 6.

A friend's sister was Caitlin Stark in GoT. My uncle is a journalist on local news and a famous comedian dated a flatmate of mine at uni - he was funny but his mate was funnier.

I know loads of famous people through my DH's work. Many are close friends.

They're just people. Rich people generally. But none of the people we are friends with (actors, comedians, poets mainly) are arseholes, because the arseholes tend not to have many actual friends. They're very generous to our family, which we absolutely do not expect from them.

Christopher Eccleston. He lived round the corner as well. I think his dad still lives there. Not sure though. Perfectly normal (as normal as teenagers can be).

He was talking to other people and I'm sure most people didn't know who he was, he was just a friendly bloke patting their dogs.
So the question is do you do well because you have a star quality or do you gain it?

I saw her on loose women not long back, she took extended leave to raise her 2 sons in Berkshire and now they are around secondary school age she has started to do some acting roles again.

There is the clip and I must say she has hardly changed, looks very natural and looks brilliant. Ironic as the press had her down as a party goer with anorexia etc when she is the glowing and the picture of health.
