Famous people.

Has anyone ever went to school/worked with or just knew before they became famous? Just wondering as I don't know anybody who is famous 😀 and what were they like ?

OP posts:

@Expo

I don’t understand why people are not saying who the famous people are.
Out of respect for the famous people who happen to be our friend/family. They don't get much privacy in life so I'm not going to openly discuss them on an Internet forum. Granted that's probably not what the OP wanted but those that are actually close to famous people protect their loved ones.

Yes but no one knows who you're talking about so there's no point in posting it in the first place. It's boring reading pointless riddles.

HeronLanyon · 31/08/2021 09:03

I didn’t identify my famous family member as it would pretty easily identify me. Now I’ve never changed my username but I do hesitate to identify myself or be the cause of some stupid story about ‘family member and mumsnet’. So apols for ‘riddle’ above.

Loads of people I know knew Kate Winslet/Ricky Gervais growing up

my ex colleague was kate Winslet's boss in the early 90s, it was in a pizza hut or one of them pizza chains in Reading. He said she was ''just another teenage girl''.

I see your point, like if it is something innocent like I was in the same class or lived 2 doors away from as x celebrity then why not name them?

But I posted one about a fling I had with one so in those cases it is appropriate and respectful to keep their name anonymous.

newnameanon1 · 31/08/2021 09:15

Name changed for this. I am a fairly famous novelist, I write thrillers. By far the worst thing about notoriety is what another famous person (lol) said to me: "you never meet anyone again". It's so true. You're always on the back foot as people know more about you than you ever know about them when you meet them. It's an interesting life experience nevertheless.

LindyLou2020 · 31/08/2021 09:25

An acquaintance went to secondary school with someone I won't name, (sorry @Expo!), but he is now an exceedingly famous actor.
Think the film role of a spy, whose initials are JB?.........
My acquaintance says he was an out and out bully, but I can't be certain he's not just jealous, hence not naming him 🤐🤐🤐

That seems to be the general consensus.

DH went to school with yungblud although he was younger than him. He said he’s a prick, he always tried way too hard at school to be cool. Neither of us are into chart music so unfamiliar with his music but whenever DH sees him in the newspaper he always mutters ‘prick’ under his breath Grin.

Hemingwaycat · 31/08/2021 09:37

Should have said yungblud (or Dominic Harrison) was younger than DH. It was a small private school though so they all knew each other.

MedusasBadHairDay · 31/08/2021 09:38

One of the boys from my class at primary school ended up in a band that, I believe, did fairly well in one of the talent shows (xfactor or something).

I'd tell you his name, but I only remember his first name (Daniel) and cannot remember his band name or what show it was on. 😂

But he was a really lovely guy, popular because he was always friendly and kind. So hope he's done well off the back of it.

Suetully · 31/08/2021 09:45

I worked with a woman years ago who said that a very well known English singer who had huge chart success raped her friend's best friend before he was famous.

Not naming names because the friend could be lying but still. I know somebody in the industry who works as PR to big stars and he said Kylie Minogue and Danni are not nice people at all ad are very fake but again that is just his perception.

EmmaStone · 31/08/2021 09:49

I used to work with someone who went on to be an Oscar winner (for production rather than acting). When I knew him, he was at an entry level role, so I was delighted to see him up on stage at the Oscars. Funnily enough someone I know well now (completely unrelated, in a different part of the country) used to babysit for him as a teenager!

My cousin is an actress, but tends to be in adverts, and very few in the UK - none that would stay in anyone's minds apart from her family.

I work in a creative industry, so often come across famouses, they do tend to have something about them TBH, a certain energy that makes you notice them. I've not got any horror stories, most of them are just turning up to do their job.

Expo · 31/08/2021 09:50

Exactly!

If you don’t want to identify them just don’t post about it otherwise the post is meaningless!

Sillysuzie · 31/08/2021 09:59

My sister went to school with someone who is a Paralympic athlete who is the most kind, humble and determined person she knows.

bumblebeessarecool · 31/08/2021 10:06

I went to high school with Dougray Scott. He was one of the cool kids. I was a nerd so no chance of mixing. I saw him in Juno and the paycock. He was good.

Joystir59 · 31/08/2021 10:09

I saw Michael Jackson in Studio 54 in New York.

HeronLanyon · 31/08/2021 10:13

As a young child I spent a day with buzz aldrin (moon landing) as he was a neighbour of an uncle. BBQ. Wish I had been a bit older because I think it didn’t really mean very much - I was probably more interested in his dog (if he had one!). Or some lizard in his garden etc

GoingOutOutNEVER · 31/08/2021 10:22

I work with a film actor, they are so beautiful. I’ve watched a few of their films and HELLO naked man Grin

GoingOutOutNEVER · 31/08/2021 10:25

My daughters TA in primary has been in Davis Wallis film Billionaire Boy…. At school she was extremely unpleasant to parents and very loud and a complete show off

GoingOutOutNEVER · 31/08/2021 10:25

David Williams or Wallis

Perfectlycontent · 31/08/2021 10:34

I was at a large school with a nasty, violent bully who had me up against the wall by my throat then punched me in the face for no reason at all and at the time of the above, I didn’t even know who she was.

She’s now a BBC London reporter.

OceansPotion · 31/08/2021 10:40

I know someone who had an affair with a member of a famous rock band she was working with. He got divorced. They got married.

EyesAsGreenAsAFreshPickledToad · 31/08/2021 11:14

Nobody cares if you’re not going to name names

SpareChangePlease · 31/08/2021 11:18

DH played in the same sports team as Jamie Theakston for a while. He found him nice enough.
He always seemed a bit full of himself to me though. Quite dismissive of people who came from a less fortunate background.
