Underwear under pjs.

alphabeticalabc · 15/08/2021 20:32

Dd attended a sleepover and told me that all the girls wear pants under their pjs and they laughed at my dd as she just put her pjs on with no underwear.
I've never worn underwear under my nightwear. I thought it was good to let the area breathe at night!!!
Or is this just something my mum has taught me and does everyone else wear underwear under nightwear?!
Worried I've been doing it wrong for the past 40 years!

I always would otherwise I'd need to wash my pjs daily and who needs that hassle!

2bazookas · 16/08/2021 10:41

My GC's do. (clean pants at bedtime , so 2 pairs a day) Because their mother thinks its "what people do".

I'd never encountered this madness before; my generation certainly didn't wear pants under pyjamas /nighties and neither did my childrens',

Mandalay246 · 16/08/2021 10:43

Pants, and I don't find them the slightest bit uncomfortable. Why make more washing for yourself by not wearing them?

Underwear in bed is decidedly unhealthy.

Might I ask why? I've been wearing it for decades and it has caused no health problems at all.

It's personal preference, I have no judgement either way, but the above comment is simply ludicrous.

@Germolenequeen

Maybe my anatomy is weird, but a pair of loose pyjama bottoms aren’t dirty after a night or two of wearing them. Nor are sheets unclean if I don’t wear anything to bed, as is often the case. Same cannot be said for knickers.

That literally makes no sense

I understand what she means.

When wearing knickers, they fit closely to the body, but loose pyjama bottoms don't, so body fluids aren't left on them.
Regarding sheets, presumably she means most people have the same anatomy, so your fanny is not in direct contact with the sheet.

Understanding that we are all different, I think maybe some people have more discharge than others, so they maybe need knickers to absorb it?

RamblesShambles · 16/08/2021 10:51

No pants under PJ'S here. Only when it's the time of the month and that is so uncomfortable.

RobinPenguins · 16/08/2021 10:53

Cotton pants. I don’t have enough pjs to change the bottoms every day.

Xanadu58 · 16/08/2021 10:53

No pants ! I was never allowed to do this as a child and still don't.

Thefaceofboe · 16/08/2021 10:53

I move around so much that my pj bottoms are literally wedged up my crack (front and backGrin) so if I don’t wear knickers, my pjs definitely need washing the next day.

@Boatonthehorizon

The breathing thing was from a time when women all wore nighties or skirts...surely its obvious why.

It was also used to argue against women wearing trousers. In the 70s women werent allowed to wear trousers in any job inc police.

That's nonsense. I wore trousers to work (teaching) from the 1960's onward.
Branleuse · 16/08/2021 10:55

I wear pants under pyjamas as otherwise i have to wash them.after one wear.
With pants i can get a few days out of them.
Size up and get cotton ones if they arent comfy

Hemingwaycat · 16/08/2021 10:56

My DD’s wear knickers in bed, yes and so do I. My Mum reminded me that I didn’t when they slept over at hers and she asked why they still had their knickers on. I’d feel too weird sleeping commando.

2bazookas · 16/08/2021 10:58

Wotta lotta grotty botties.

:-)

Do you make boys and husbands wear pants under their PJ's?
No wonder sperm counts are falling.

😄Grin i dont make my husband or sons or daughters wear anything they dont want to.
rainbowandglitter · 16/08/2021 11:05

I wear knickers under pyjamas. I've never had any kind of yeast or other infection.

Surely washing pyjama bottoms every day (from wearing no knickers) is bad for the environment?

yourestandingonmyneck · 16/08/2021 11:25

Intake it the people wearing pants put a fresh pair on before bed?

I wear light cotton pjs (no pants) , and I do a wash load every day anyway, so I just wash my pj bottoms each day.

There's not difference between washing an extra pair of pants each day and a lightweight pair of pj shorts.

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 16/08/2021 12:09

Can’t even stand PJ bottoms.

I wear a nightshirt and no pants.

QueenHofScotland · 16/08/2021 17:57

Maybe I am totally manky, but I don’t wear pants under my jammies, and I wear my jammies for 2-3 nights.

I wash every day so consider myself to have good hygiene and do not think that wearing jammies for 2-3 days is dirty.

I feel we have lost sight of what is truly dirty.

JammyDozen · 16/08/2021 18:14

Thanks for interpreting @DietrichandDiMaggio - that is indeed what I meant!

RosieLeaLovesTea · 16/08/2021 18:15

This is such a personal choice. The there is a no right way or wrong way. But I need to wear pants under PJs.

Mandalay246 · 16/08/2021 20:19

I'm not in the UK but I certainly wore trousers (in an office) in the 70s!

There's no consensus on this.

I beg to differ. Jam then cream on your scon, obviously.

Do some women seriously do that standing up??
