Underwear under pjs.

Dd attended a sleepover and told me that all the girls wear pants under their pjs and they laughed at my dd as she just put her pjs on with no underwear.
I've never worn underwear under my nightwear. I thought it was good to let the area breathe at night!!!
Or is this just something my mum has taught me and does everyone else wear underwear under nightwear?!
Worried I've been doing it wrong for the past 40 years!

I always wear pants under my pjs. Its a bit gross not to.

Also my parents used to try to stop it for your exact breathing reasons, which are nonsense. I believe those beliefs, which go way back, are historically linked to sexual reasons which imo opinion just makes it far worse. Prep 1910s a lot of women didnt wear knickers / were encouraged to only wear knickers when outside home (to allow down there to breathe (ha!))

Clearly not a regular sufferer from thrush...

Have to wear pants- purely as a comfort thing- pj bottoms have no gusset which I find really uncomfortable if wearing alone. Yuck, it's making me feel uncomfortable thinking about it 😂

Tbh I wear big pants with a t shirt as my pjs anyway- can't stand loads of fabric getting caught up around my legs so wouldn't want pj bottoms on in bed.

No pants but wash bits every night and change pj s
after 2 nights. Wearing pants with pjs is a bit like wearing pants under a bathing suit I think.

We always wore underwear under pj's. Otherwise surely you'd be changing pj bottoms every night in the same way you'd wear clean underwear daily. .

I have a separate drawer just for bed pants. I don't sleep in pyjamas, though.

The breathing thing was from a time when women all wore nighties or skirts...surely its obvious why.

It was also used to argue against women wearing trousers. In the 70s women werent allowed to wear trousers in any job inc police.

I never did at home but I remember at sleepovers everyone did. One of those weird girl codes they use to laugh at other girls. Ridiculous.

No underwear unless I have my period.

I always thought it was good to allow the area to breath at night too.

DD’s also do not wear underwear to bed.

I don't wear pyjamas to bed unless it's super cold, but I do wear them constantly when I'm home. I think it would be weird as hell to not wear pants, do the seams not rub? My dm made the dc put jammies on without pants, they thought it was so strange.

But yes the thought of pants underneath seems odd to me after 40 years of never doing it.
What about men? My DH wears pj bottoms to bed and doesn't wear boxers underneath.

No pants here. I’m not sure I have enough knickers to go through twice as many (a pair at night and a pair in the day)

My dh wears nothing. He will put pj's on if he gets out of bed - no pants

The only time I wear under wear underneath my night wear is when I'm on my period, otherwise it's uncomfortable

Always wear pants in bed. Sometimes I wear shorts/pj bottoms as well, sometimes just the pants. Always a vest on top (even in winter, I get hot easily). The seams on pj's are uncomfortable and I like to get a few wears out of them to save on washing.
