Huge fan of this app - friend told me about it over lockdown and after I'd had my first "magic bag" I was hooked! The basic idea is that you pay for a lucky bag of food from a local retailer which would otherwise have gone in the bin. Picked up a bag from a M&S petrol station shop last night, cost me £4, got two large packs of salmon, two panini wraps, two packs of sandwiches, a side salad, a bag of mixed veg, and a pack of melon. Greggs also do bags which the kids enjoy - most of the bags we've had from there have a couple of the bakes, sausage rolls, cakes, pastries.

Yes it's all short-dated, yellow sticker stuff but lots can be frozen. Or eaten the next day. Definitely worth looking at if you're flexible about what you eat. Lots of restaurants do it too, although pick up times can be much later in the evening.

Any other fans???

My Greggs is still sticking to 5 items. Some of you are getting loads!
Mind you, I’m not sure we could demolish what you got @oscarcat99

Greggs today, he apologised and said there wasn't much

Roast chicken oval sandwich
Ham and cheese baguette
Cream eclair
Vanilla slice
Belgian bun

N0PE · 30/08/2021 21:21

Mine was
Ham baguette
2 steak bakes

Honestly, if it had just been yum yums I'd have been happy. They're my favourites! Grin

That Greggs bag is ace! I am off work next week so hoping to be able to bag more goodies than normal Grin

NotMyCat · 03/09/2021 21:38

Greggs actually made me sad
They were scooping sandwiches off the shelf into a bin bag, literally about 50 of them or more and all for the bin. I've emailed them to ask if there's something I can do because I would have taken them to the fire station or a refuge etc

TooGoodToGoNewbie · 06/09/2021 20:14

Woo hoo. I actually got my first ever bumper Greggs bag -look at all those doughnuts!
I think I will do a Monday again, best bag yet. Not even for me, I am gluten free, but still thrilled with it all lol

That is such a waste @NotMyCat I hope you can get someone up high to agree for them to be given to you to distribute in future.

Greggs today- 4 s rolls, chicken bske, steak bake, chicken mayo sandwich, 2 x muffins, one Belgian bin, 2.59

Also Caffè Nero, three pastries, two fruit croissants, one (veggue! Yay!) Savoury pastry, slice of coffee cake, choc cookie. £4 I think. These two are close together in space and time hence getting two. Plus my bags keep getting cancelled. Greggs is the shout tho

Bit of a random one today - a Greek deli popped up on the app, and the description said it would likely be yogurt, olives, salads or dips. Paid my £3.33, and got…a bag with five blocks of feta! I’ll use it, but it’s not exactly varied!

OnlyFlans · 06/09/2021 22:11

I got a cafe nero one over the weekend- an all day breakfast box (binned as I don't like egg and it looked all congealed 🤢) a chicken sandwich and piece of chocolate cake (I gave them to a homeless person on the way home) and 2 pieces of lush coffee cake.

Not bad for £3.09 - the lush coffee cake would have cost more than that alone!

TooGoodToGoNewbie · 13/09/2021 16:54

Bumper bag from Greggs. Monday is def the best day at ours!

Sausage roll
Steak slice
7 cookies

I deffo think Greggs are the shout, all that for £2.59! Trouble is the ones near me are either a bit of a drive and/or a pain to park so long walk, and not really at a good time. Co-op and Waitrose (garage) are a lot nearer and late in the evening but they keep cancelling on me :(

Hi, I've been using this a few weeks, got some really good bags. Managed to get two coveted Morrisons bags this week, first one was amazing, bread, eggs, vegetables, lemon muffins, a whole birthday cake, Danish pastries. Went for my second one today to get some bread rolls and four bags of sprouts Grin. Guess you win some you lose some.
Anyone got any good sprout recipes?

oscarcat99 · 18/09/2021 23:17

Another cracker from the same Starbucks - croissants for breakfast it is then!

I had my first this weekend from an M&S petrol station - very happy! Now recommended to all my friends so will probably be sold out from now on!

Newnormal99 · 24/09/2021 17:00

I've just ordered from my local petrol station
Which is usual good anyway. Hoping as they have no petrol left and was large queues earlier people won't have been grabbing bits and it will be a mega bag!

TooGoodToGoNewbie · 27/09/2021 20:50

How was your bag @Newnormal99 ? Hope it was a bumper one.

Not thrilled with Greggs, variety was sadly lacking tonight but made up for it in quantity. The sausage rolls have got a sticker saying eat on day of purchase -never had that before, wonder how risky it is for them to be eaten (not by me) tomorrow?

Newnormal99 · 27/09/2021 20:55

@TooGoodToGoNewbie

Not bad but no more really than a usual one

2 lamb leg steaks
2/3 chicken breasts
4 quarter pound burgers
Pack of bagels
About 8 assorted croissant / pain au chocolate

Had the lamb for tea and the rest went in the freezer.

I ate the sausage rolls over a few days and I'm immunocompromised Blush and was fine!
Whentheydontmeanwhattheysay · 27/09/2021 22:19

That’s quite a haul @Newnormal99

@NotMyCat good to know, we have someone immunocompromised here too. They used to be so careful about food at first, far too complacent now!
