Huge fan of this app - friend told me about it over lockdown and after I'd had my first "magic bag" I was hooked! The basic idea is that you pay for a lucky bag of food from a local retailer which would otherwise have gone in the bin. Picked up a bag from a M&S petrol station shop last night, cost me £4, got two large packs of salmon, two panini wraps, two packs of sandwiches, a side salad, a bag of mixed veg, and a pack of melon. Greggs also do bags which the kids enjoy - most of the bags we've had from there have a couple of the bakes, sausage rolls, cakes, pastries.

Yes it's all short-dated, yellow sticker stuff but lots can be frozen. Or eaten the next day. Definitely worth looking at if you're flexible about what you eat. Lots of restaurants do it too, although pick up times can be much later in the evening.

Any other fans???

Steak and chicken - RESULT!!!

Have to say I'm quite underwhelmed with my Starbucks bag:

1 x raspberry swirl pastry thing
2 x slices fruit toast
1 x cookies and cream muffin
1 x vegan breakfast roll

I think the issue is that retail price on these things is high to start with, they probably charge £2 for a couple of slices of fruit bread toasted. So although the 4 things in my bag are probably worth £10 value, it doesn't compare with a Gregg's bag, or most M&S bags.

First collection for me tonight, after reading about this app elsewhere earlier today! M&S BP garage collection - I'm hooked! Was made even better by the cashier who handed me the bag saying 'I've put some lovely goodies in the bags tonight, I really hope you enjoy it 🥰🥰🥰
Lamb kebabs
Santini tomatoes
Brie
Apple pie
Calamari
WINNER!
Roll on tomorrow for a Morrison's bag!

I agree, Starbucks bags are £5 and they charge like £2 a cake, but I figured one I got that was all cakes (tho v nice) was not worth it as I could've got similar from Morrisons for about a fiver.

Waitrose one I had was good tho, burgers worth £7-8 and two fat sandwiches, that was £4, and my Costa the other night was great for £3, muffins were delicious even the next day.

A different mix of foods tonight, but it will all get eaten!

NotMyCat · 14/08/2021 12:27

I have a morrisons bag today! Ours aren't too bad to get, you seem to get about 4-5 mins before they sell out

NotMyCat · 14/08/2021 16:15

Today's Morrisons bag
There is < deep breath >
2 punnets of strawberries, a bag of limes, bag of pears, 4 avocados, chillies, spring greens, 4 large potatoes, mango, melon, carrots, peas, basil, chives, bananas....

NotMyCat · 14/08/2021 16:15

Another fabulous box for me from Morrison's too, too much to list but apples, kiwis, strawberries, blackberries, corn on the cob, carrots, grapes...

I think Morrison's bags/boxes are definitely the best value.

Only thing in mine which I'm not sure about is three small turnips, the white fleshed ones.

Interestingly there was loads of stuff in the reduced section but just fruit snd veg in the bags

FreeBritnee · 14/08/2021 16:50

I've had mixed success with this app. One M&S bag was great, the next time i had a wilted, mushy bag of salad worth over a £1 put in which i would never have bought in the reduced section as it was basically off. I tried a Greggs bag which was okay. DP said the baguette wasnt nice, the rest went down well but its just not healthy enough to do regularly. Then i went to try a Co-op bag but it got cancelled.

So it's not a no from me completely, but i think unless youre near a supermarket its not quite the bargain it's cracked up to be.

NotMyCat · 14/08/2021 16:53

I'm 2 miles from morrisons so it works out ok for me. Tomorrow my food shop delivery is coming so I can alter it depending on what I've got in the bag too which helps

HoollyWugger · 14/08/2021 22:57

Tonight's Waitrose bag ... the loaf was a bit battered, but DS had the sandwich for supper; sausages in the freezer and the other things will be eaten tomorrow 👍🏼👍🏼

I just picked up a Finest loaf from Tesco for 28p. Was very pleased with that 🤭

Managed to reserve a Morrisons bag for tomorrow- collect between 16.00 and 18.00.

Not done this before so does it make a difference to what you get in the bag if you go early or late in that 2 hour slot time?

Just wondering if best to go at 4 incase they leave all the slimy lettuces till the end 😂

I've had two and it didn't seem to make any difference. First one I collected at 4, second at about 5.30
NotMyCat · 17/08/2021 00:58

I've found a Dobbies that is meant to be good near me, that does sainsburys food. Will be stalking that for a bag tomorrow!

TooGoodToGoNewbie · 17/08/2021 10:54

Sunday was a good day for a Greggs bag near me, better than a previous bag

Yes, the Morrisons by me knows how many boxes are being collected so has everything boxed up and ready to go by 4pm. So there is no real difference between the first and last.

Got a Costa bag yesterday but it was disappointing, two sandwich packs and a small salad. Last time (different Costa) I got four packs of sandwiches and four muffins which were yummy too. Ah well.

Hellohellohowareyou · 17/08/2021 21:47

Picked up my first magic bag tonight from Greggs, think I was very lucky!

4 sausage rolls
4 iced doughnuts
2 jam doughnuts
1 southern fried chicken baguette
1 cheese and ham baguette
1 cheese and ham toastie

Very happy Grin

HoollyWugger · 17/08/2021 21:58

Today's mixture - the apples and nectarines were a bit dodgy, and I think perhaps the smoked haddock was past its best ... I've put a note on the app - waiting for a response.

WilloTheCrisp · 17/08/2021 22:14

My Morrisons box was really good:

2 big packs rhubarb - stewed it and froze some
fresh chives
mushrooms - had on toast for lunch with the chives
8 potatoes
1 avocado - binned as squashy!
spring greens
1kg cheddar - I LOVE CHEESE!
2 packets of ‘the best’ salted caramel brownies
1 sliced brown loaf
1 fresh bakery loaf
1 pk scotch pancakes
1 pk Irish soda bread rolls

MorriseysGladioli · 17/08/2021 22:18

That was excellent!
I'm still trying for the right bag, on the right day, at the right time.
The bags I covet (Morrisons) were around at the weekend, but I was at work.
