Positive and negative!

I went to Las Vegas, glad I went, but no desire to return! :)

Would never return to Warwick Castle. It's quite over rated...and not much even happened there, it just looks the part! :)

Edinburgh
Visited many times as I used to have friends there.
Never liked the place. It felt dodgy as hell despite the fact my friends lived in one of the most desirable (and expensive) city centre areas. Bad vibes definitely.

Bitterbean · 22/07/2021 23:30

Brisbane - lifeless and soulless

Tokyo - insane place but it's huge with no real centre and I've never met such cold people in my life. People in Tokyo look right through you, it's weird.

Brighton - very overrated

Paris - beautiful, and been going for 20 years as I have family there but nothing ever changes. Also there's very little green space, which must be difficult for families.

Scottish lochs - went last summer. Couldn't leave the cabin because of the midges.

Cornwall is beautiful but all the good bits are overrun

BrozTito · 22/07/2021 23:31

For fans of northern italy- i go to slovenia , much cheaper with the same landscape, much quieter, massive food variety, amazing buildings.

TheSunShinesBrighter · 22/07/2021 23:31

@wanttomarryamillionaire

Cornwall. Boring, rude people and full of liberal media types at their second homes.
South coast Cornwall is a weird place. if you step one foot away from the ‘pretty’ tourist areas you will see real poverty and some of the grimmest places ever seen in the U.K.
ChocolateDeficitDisorder · 22/07/2021 23:34

Blackpool.

I had happy memories of Autumn trips from Scotland to see the lights so a few years ago I took DD for a day trip when we were staying with friends in Southport.

I booked parking for 4 hours but we were back at the car within 90 minutes.

Just no.

shewalkslikerihanna · 22/07/2021 23:36

Never been to Dubai
But exh moved there and bloody loved it
Said it all really 😂

Spiderseatpants · 22/07/2021 23:41

Nasty little hotel near Ilfracombe, North Devon. Manages to title itself not only Manor but Country House too, but it was hard to see anything about it that resembled a Manor House. The hotel was nearly empty but the abrasive manageress made us feel like a complete inconvenience. The attitude from both her and the owner was that the public is never right unless fawning and fulsome in its praise. Too late I read the reviews on TripAdvisor... Perfectly reasonable sounding one star reviews were responded to in the most defensive, vicious, personal, rambling, rude and threatening manner by the clearly narcissistic owner. Never again!

shewalkslikerihanna · 22/07/2021 23:41

St Clears
One of the weirdest places I’ve ever been to
I’ll just leave it there

BoredZelda · 22/07/2021 23:46

That's a bit strong!

@Cam77 That’s how it felt. 🤷‍♀️From the hotel car park surrounded by razor wire, to petrol station cashiers behind toughened glass, the chippy with metal mesh on the windows, the off licence where practically everything was in locked cases (including the cashier).

It was about a decade ago and maybe places have changed, but it felt really unsettling.

shewalkslikerihanna · 22/07/2021 23:46

Maubisson france
I’m very easily pleased on holiday but my god this place was boring
Why oh why did Pierre et vacances build a
Holiday centre there and why oh why did we ever think this was a good place to visit

And why oh why did I ever let my children convince me to let them go into town , through the forest on the last night with other children they made friends with and then spent all that evening worrying I’d never see them again

BoredZelda · 22/07/2021 23:50

I can't believe the number of people who find this a difficult concept, it never occured to me to think it referred to two places 10 minutes apart!

It can easily be read both ways. I don’t think that’s a difficult concept to grasp either.

Cattailkitty · 22/07/2021 23:52

@itsanightmare Lol and hmm to the people saying London. I am imagining it was a weekend trip, stopping off at Leicester Square, Trafalgar Square, Oxford Street shops, and then staying at the Travelodge off Covent Garden, after which they think they've "seen and done" all there is to London.

I am one who loved/loves London but this patronising attitude that "anyone outside of London" stays in a tourist bubble and does bare minimum is an awful generalisation

Maybe use your imagination a bit more

Changechangychange · 22/07/2021 23:54

Centre Parcs. In theory it is exactly the kind of holiday I would like. But in reality it is like going to expensive Butlins. So much promise, so much under-delivery.

Las Vegas - I didn’t hate it, but once you’ve been, you’ve been.

San Francisco - felt genuinely unsafe with all the junkies and untreated mentally ill homeless people, and I happily walk around Brixton in the middle of the night.

ResIpsaLoquiturInterAlia · 22/07/2021 23:55

Cancún Mexico. Explored this amazingly beautiful planned Caribbean Sea region years ago but recently I understand it’s a no go unsafe zone full of Mexican drugs gangs cartels and corrupt police and local officials making it the next and following in the footsteps of Acapulco, Guerrero, Mexico being a domestic war zone with drugs overlord cartels fighting the Mexican military and so destroying a former high profile desirable tourist treasure. Otherwise amazing beaches and some decent hotels home of the all inclusive delicious Mexican cuisine and cocktails.

Libraryghost · 22/07/2021 23:57

Florida. To be fair like an idiot I went in July.. bad idea. Also full of annoying perma tanned pensioners and hugely obese people wobbling around on mobility scooters..

MrsMaizel · 23/07/2021 00:38

@FakeColinCaterpillar

I’m glad so many people have disliked Australia. We’ve been under pressure to go a few times and I know it’s not for me.

I know someone else mentioned Gibraltar. I remember the highlight was going to St Michaels (M&S) such a dull place.

Yes M and S 😂😂
Kokosrieksts · 23/07/2021 00:58

Dubai - too much wrong with it.
Egypt (Cairo, Hurgada)- for an 18 year old girl quite a shock to be harassed by every single man on the street.
Greece - stunning, but too much animal cruelty as cultural norm.

I was mesmerized by Rome.
Surely it’s not possible to get bored in Berlin after one day.

PrettyLittleFlies · 23/07/2021 01:01

So many posters so unsuited to travel 😂 God forbid a place should be different from home.

swimlyn · 23/07/2021 01:02

Merthyr Tydfil.

Shock
midsomermurderess · 23/07/2021 01:24

Very few people are actually saying that, Flies.

Mandalay246 · 23/07/2021 02:31

@PrettyLittleFlies - I was about to post and say the same as you. They say travel broadens the mind, but there are so many posts on this thread which say otherwise! If a place you visit isn't the same as where you come from it's not worth going to Hmm

As for those dismissing entire continents/extremely large countries on the strength of one visit - there are no words.

LineofFruity · 23/07/2021 02:54

What a horribly negative, nasty and narrow minded thread.

The OP asked where you wouldn’t go back to, not for a slating of entire continents.

I’ve been to over 50 countries and there isn’t anywhere I wouldn’t go back to. There are places I found difficult or couldn’t wait to leave (Venice for example) but that’s down to the weather (blisteringly hot), circumstances (stranded there with grouchy teething baby), company (grouchy teething baby) and time of year (peak holiday season so super crowded). I hate crowds so obviously should go to Venice out of season if I went again.

I wouldn’t write it off and say it was awful. Just my circumstances made it awful at the time.

Mockolate · 23/07/2021 02:59

@mrsmaizel that's an entire country you're writing off though.
How can you possibly say you don't like any of it, have you been to all of it?!

I don't think everyone has been negative.

There's nowhere I've been that I'd point blank refuse to go back to. Any holiday is a good holiday! But I have limited money and life left, and I'm going to spend it going to new places that appeal, and old places that I adore and couldn't get enough of.

A bit dramatic.

Yes people are stating whole countries but the question is what place would you not go back to. If one has a crap experience in a country then I can see why you wouldn't rush back, even to a different part. The world is a big place.
