Positive and negative!

I went to Las Vegas, glad I went, but no desire to return! :)

Would never return to Warwick Castle. It's quite over rated...and not much even happened there, it just looks the part! :)

@igelkott2021

Alnwick Castle. Full of tiny kids. I was pregnant at the time and remember seeing all these screaming children and thinking: What Have I Done.
We have tickets to visit there in a few weeks. I was under the (misapprehension) that it would be quiet and idyllic. It's going to be horrible isn't it Confused.

Turkey - paid and booked for a 5 star, wasn't even a 3, had food poisoning for 6/10 days.

Berlin and Paris - both felt so dirty and disgusting, people rude, couldn't wait to leave.

Miami, Jamaica, Rome and Lake Como I could visit again and again.

Somebody mentioned Croyde (in North Devon) my happiest childhood memories come from holidaying there. Still love it now.

Wannabegreenfingers · 23/07/2021 04:30

Malè - vile men shitting in the sea!

Jaywick - hell on earth. Stayed at a caravan park there, never ever again.

Just thought of a definite one, Tunisia. Absolutely awful. It was full of Russian tourists who’d stub their cigarettes out in the sand in the beach. It was littered with butt ends 🤮 the food was basic and repetitive. What was for breakfast, you’d see it for lunch. If you went out to mooch if you didn’t by tatt from one of the sellers they’d verbally abuse you. Just, yuck!

Aposterhasnoname · 23/07/2021 06:08

The Eden project. £60 quid to walk round one greenhouse, and one dust bowl.

Novelusername · 23/07/2021 06:36

I agree with a lot of these, sadly it's mainly to do with the behaviour of men towards women. A lot of men will read this thread and wonder what we're all moaning about. Certainly when I've travelled with ex's and had problems they'd just brush it off because it's not their problem.
Barcelona - full of beggars and menacing men, apart from the Gaudi it's not attractive
Marrakech - being gawped at, hassled and grabbed hold of everywhere you go, food gives you diarrhea
Amsterdam - full of stoned men who, if you're female, gawp at you as though you are also a prostitute and generally are a PITA. A pretty place, but you could visit many other Dutch towns for the same architecture and minus the stag dos.
Goa - gawped at by the men and constantly hassled when lying on the beach trying to get some peace. Had a group of men looking at me through binoculars and taking photos. Food also gives you diarrhea.
Malta - just concrete hotels and overcrowded beaches, although Gozo was much nicer.
Cyprus - see Malta
Brighton - just a run down seaside town with overpriced alternative shops, even has a horrible pebble beach - what exactly is the appeal?
I'm still glad I went to these places to see what they had to offer, but I wouldn't bother if you haven't been, so many better places to visit.

Toronto, Canada
The inside of the Statue of Liberty
Phuket, Thailand

Novelusername · 23/07/2021 07:17

Also Dublin just looks like a bland provincial town, full of drunk Brits and is ridiculously expensive, much nicer places to go in Ireland.
I thought Cornwall was beautiful, but for the effort it takes to get down there and the amount of overcrowding, there's lots of other coastline in the UK which is pretty, easier to get to and not as busy.

FayCarew · 23/07/2021 07:18

@Novelusername, it's not the food that gives you diarrhoea, it's the bacteria that you aren't used to in it.

Novelusername · 23/07/2021 07:20

@FayCarew I know, smartarse.

FayCarew · 23/07/2021 07:27

@Novelusername, then why not say that?

Gladimnotcampinginthisweather · 23/07/2021 07:36

A campsite in Pooley Bridge. It had on site security who drove round in a landrover. Luckily I can't remember the name.

People who say center parc Have obviously never been to whinfell in the lakes Went for the first time in April after covid restrictions were lifted Just loved it . I didn’t want to leave Fab weather Was in a gorgeous forest Reduced numbers for covid No swimming My dil cried all the way to the entrance on the day she left as she just wanted to stay

I wish they would offer a no swimming option all the time
Huge three bed two Bath villa for 6 of us ... £329 for 4 nights
Bargain
Had a day in bowness and a day in Keswick drove past ullswater on way to glenridding
Stunning

Whinfell is the worst one I've been to. It's tiny, cramped and the lodge was the shabbiest one I've stayed in. Although it sounds like you didn't stay around the park and had a cheap week which certainly would take the edge off. It's the whole fake feel of the place that I dislike, it's like Stepford holidays or The Truman Show. My DC love it though.
Whydidimarryhim · 23/07/2021 07:39

Magaluf or magalmuf as it used to be know by. Got the bus there for a day trip. Step off the bus and stepped back on. 😂.
Loved Rome - I been to a few touristy areas in Italy - always feel it’s dirty and lots of noise and harassment by men who cat call.
Athens - don’t bother except to travel through. Dirty and dusty.
New fancied Las Vargas or Dubai.
Woolwich - anyone been? Now it reminds be off a township - the wealthy live in the old woolwich arsenal side which is gated and cross the road and you have woolwich shopping centre!!! Don’t bother.

Novelusername · 23/07/2021 07:44

@FayCarew because I'm typing on my phone and typing 'the food' is easier than typing 'the bacteria in the food which I wasn't used to' and going into an explanation, because that's not what the thread's about. It's fairly common knowledge anyway, the kind of thing a tour guide or booklet will tell you if you visit these places, but go ahead and luxuriate in correcting an ignorant fool on the internet if that helps your ego.

FruityPolos · 23/07/2021 07:49

The Hollywood Walk of Fame. Lots of other bits of LA I enjoyed but I really thought the Hollywood walk with all the handprints would be glitzy from what you see on TV. It really wasn't, very run down and dirty, lots of second hand type shops offering to fix broken phones etc, lots of homeless people.

In the UK Shreks Adventure in London. Overpriced, very short, very tired looking. We thought the new Trolls bit looked great on the website. It really wasn't, it was just a short corridor to walk though!

EmmaOvary · 23/07/2021 08:01

'Thornton heath....shudder

Honestly I'm no stranger to some grimy parts of London, but I felt genuinely scared in Thornton Heath even with my dh who is not a wimpy kind of bloke by any means.'

I live here! 😂
But yes, I agree.

@Novelusername, nothing to do with ego.

What you said could be interpreted as that the food was in some way bad.

IslandLane · 23/07/2021 08:16

Loved Amsterdam, but not a patch on much of the rest of The Netherlands. Bergen, Rotterdam, Amersfoort, Worden, Edam. It is a beautiful country.

Not so keen on Maastricht (except for the amazing Therme).

supermoonrising · 23/07/2021 08:23

@Novelusername

I think you'll find there are plenty more drunk Irishmen around Dublin than drunk Brits.

Dublin is a cool city with loads of character but it isn't a "beautiful" holiday or a "cultural" holiday. That said if you do your homework there are a dozen beautiful interesting towns/suburbs/villages in wider Dublin/Co.Dublin, accessible as one day or even half day trips. You don't have to spend all your time near the river, a mistake many tourists make.

AwaAnBileYerHeid · 23/07/2021 08:27

Canada. The people were so rude and I just didn't like the vibe tbh.

Budapest. Can't put my finger on it, just didn't like it at all.

AwaAnBileYerHeid · 23/07/2021 08:28

Oh and Dublin! Very bland city. Much nicer places to go in Ireland ie Galway, which I loved.

Toottootdrivers · 23/07/2021 08:42

Florence. It was nice enough but I've seen it now. Also the pickpocketing and harassment was on another level!

Also has anyone ever been on the train from Naples to Sorrento? If not, and you're going, get a coach. Seriously!
