Positive and negative!

I went to Las Vegas, glad I went, but no desire to return! :)

Would never return to Warwick Castle. It's quite over rated...and not much even happened there, it just looks the part! :)

Paris. I refuse to even transit through on flights: last time I was at Charles de Gaulle, I was assaulted by a staff member for having Israeli visa stamps. I missed my flight as a result of the injuries, and then spent eight hours freezing in a wheelchair. He was given a written warning and police did nothing.

The anti-Semitism is grotesque, I’ve seen nothing like it in any Middle Eastern country even at the height of conflicts.

BlackAlys · 22/07/2021 22:26

Cheltenham. Stayed in an incredible townhouse and ate a lovely meal in The Ivy. Went with friends that I adore, but felt wretched and filled with dread the whole weekend. It was most bizarre.

Rubyrecka · 22/07/2021 22:27

And Marrakesh. Just no.

FoxtrotSkarloey · 22/07/2021 22:27

Earlier post not thread 🤦‍♀️

theliverpoolone · 22/07/2021 22:29

Paris
Berlin
Hong Kong

I'm firmly in the 'love Rome' camp!

PandemicAtTheDisco · 22/07/2021 22:30

@ineedsun

Southwold- overpriced, dull, unattractive, overly full of toffs.
I loved my visit to Southwold. One of my best holidays. I found it calm and stress-free rather than dull. I'm not sure why you'd find it unattractive but it certainly a bit toffish.
CatherineMorland · 22/07/2021 22:34

Cambridge. Dirty crowded streets with traffic jams and bikes speeding.

Thefirsttime · 22/07/2021 22:35

Dallas, Dubai and to a lesser extent Penang are the places I actively disliked with no redeeming features and wouldn’t return to either if I was paid to.

I have no desire to go back to Brussels, LA, Tunisia, Jerusalem or Cyprus, but am not opposed to going back to any of them in the same way I’m opposed to ever visiting Dubai or Dallas again .

JudgeJ · 22/07/2021 22:36

@Tay1980

Bath, thought it would be beautiful but Harrogate (10 minutes up the road) is far nicer 🤷🏼‍♀️
I can't believe the number of people who find this a difficult concept, it never occured to me to think it referred to two places 10 minutes apart!
cataline · 22/07/2021 22:37

Wisconsin.
Forever known to me as 'Fucking Wisconsin' after the night I spent there and ended up with over 100 mosquito bites.
25 of them were on my face alone and I had a terrible reaction to every one.
I looked like the elephant man.
I will never return!

GenderApostatemk2 · 22/07/2021 22:39

Cairo - utter shithole, especially Giza (literally, they use the lesser pyramids as toilets and the sacrifical bull pits as rubbish bins 🤬) .
Luxor on the other hand, was magniificent.
Beijing, grey and souless. Loved Shanghai.
Auckland, found it very odd but I don’t know why, yet we loved Wellington.
Miami, wasn’t impressed and the famed ‘Art Deco’ district is just a couple of buildings 🙄

Santorini, I was distinctly underwhelmed when we visited on a cruise, ditto Athens - hideous place full of traffic.
I don’t understand how anyone could dislike Venice 😳 it’s in my top 3 favourite places in the world.

drpet49 · 22/07/2021 22:39

Lanzarote
Malta
Dubai

ineedsun · 22/07/2021 22:39

@PandemicAtTheDisco

Lots of rules, beach is meh, there’s some sort of nuclear power station on the horizon, the town itself is very crowded both in terms of the buildings and the number of people.

Genuinely, for me, the worst place I’ve been, and I’ve been to Skegness and Blackpool 😂

OrangeBananaFish · 22/07/2021 22:41

Forgot about Venice. It was just dirty and falling down. Might go for the day and stay nearby, but wouldn't stay in Venice.

Also Ikea. Went once, walked round. Didn't buy anything. Left. This was about 15 years ago. Not been back since and really can't see me ever going.

Interesting to read about Marseilles as it is somewhere I've often thought about visiting. I love Cannes and Monaco and the French Riviera in general, although St Tropez is a bit boring, but I've been loads over the years so maybe I'm just not interested in it anymore. Really going to miss going this year, but managed it last year so its not too bad I suppose.

Alannawhorideslikeaman · 22/07/2021 22:41

@Chickenwing2

Lanzarote. Grotty, windy, and there's not much to do.

I also hated Rome but went in the middle of summer so it was just too busy and stressful.

Hate to break it to you but middle of Summer is one of the quieter times in Rome as it's so hot Grin if you though mid summer was bad you should try May! All the Italians tend to ship out over the holidays and head to the beach. Personally I love it in August. Scorching hot but not too crazy.
Puzzledandpissedoff · 22/07/2021 22:44

Cairo, only place I've travelled that I felt genuinely unsafe

TBF it's not just Cairo; a lot of Egypt's like that, but the abusers get more opportunity there because of tourist numbers

I recall flying out of Luxor, where they had the usual male/female staff to pat down travellers - except when it was a young and attractive woman and the male stepped forward instead with a huge grin and really took his time about it
He tried that with a lass of 14 whose dad was fuming, but the "security guy" just tapped his gun ("Don't dare challenge me!!") and grinned all the wider

Zotter · 22/07/2021 22:44

Love Venice
Love Rome
Like Bath
Like lots of France

Only dislike is Blackpool

Toddlerteaplease · 22/07/2021 22:45

@Shakirasma

Bognor Regis. Never, ever again. Not even if you paid me.
King George V thought the same, when he said "Bugger Bognor"
JudgeJ · 22/07/2021 22:49

@cozycat1

Another vote for Las Vegas - once for a night to see what it was about was enough. I've no idea what the attraction is.

Barrow in furness. - grey, depressing

That's how we use LV, fly into there, stay a couple of nights to stock up for a long road-trip and laze by the pool, love to visit Fremont Street for an evening then off into the South West.
CatherineAragon · 22/07/2021 22:50

I love Bath, Venice, Morocco, Paris and Rome.
I hate Norfolk. It has a bleak depressing and faintly sinister vibe to me.
The place I’ve hated most though is Gloucester.

whyMrsRobinson · 22/07/2021 22:50

British high streets with endless chainstores. Gah!

maddy68 · 22/07/2021 22:51

The USA (I've been all over )
Dubai
Bath
Paris

Toddlerteaplease · 22/07/2021 22:52

I live not far from the Peak District, but really not keen. No idea why.

I was expecting Dublin to be a beautiful Georgian city. But it's just traffic choked and nothing exciting.

Hate Birmingham and Manchester. Liked Leeds but nothing to do. Love Liverpool

Toddlerteaplease · 22/07/2021 22:53

@LastSummerHere

Oh...and Medjugorje in Bosnia Herzegovina. Used to believe (as a young naive child) that Mary was really appearing there. Begged my mum to let me go on a school trip wven though he had little money. Hated every second and it became very obvious to me that it was/is nothing but a sick hoax....and it's STILL going on forty years after it started.
It is a hoax. Try Lourdes instead. It's wonderful!
HopingForOurRainbowBaby · 22/07/2021 22:56

@NewYearNewTwatName

BarbaraofSeville yeah I scratched my head at that too.
I've just quickly googled the distance from Harrogate to Bath to make sure I'm not losing the plot. Didn't know how far apart they are from each other but knew it was definitely more than 10 mins up the road
