Positive and negative!

I went to Las Vegas, glad I went, but no desire to return! :)

Would never return to Warwick Castle. It's quite over rated...and not much even happened there, it just looks the part! :)

I’m so sad to see the lanzarote hate. We went there for some cheap winter sun and were blown away by how stunning it was and how ungrotty it was. I thought it was just beautiful, barely any traffic, some wonderful galleries and restaurants and vineyards. Not masses to do but lovely for a break

FakeColinCaterpillar · 22/07/2021 23:00

I’m glad so many people have disliked Australia. We’ve been under pressure to go a few times and I know it’s not for me.

I know someone else mentioned Gibraltar. I remember the highlight was going to St Michaels (M&S) such a dull place.

whataboutbob · 22/07/2021 23:01

Dubrovnik. A victim to its prettiness, it’s now a hollowed out cruise destination. Crowded, nowhere to stop and sit down without emptying your wallet, no green spaces, just horrid.

Egghead68 · 22/07/2021 23:02

Oh yes - Gibraltar definitely

Egghead68 · 22/07/2021 23:04

And Brussels.

JudgeJ · 22/07/2021 23:05

@loopylindi

Someone wants to know what's wrong with Las Vegas.....it would be hard to describe what's right with it (except for its proximity to the Grand Canyon) It epitomises everything that's wrong with the American culture - brash, brassy, over indulgent and huge. Everything is designed to shout at full volume LOOK AT ME. It's so hot and everywhere is air conditioned so diving into hotel lobbies and casinos seems like paradise with their super cooled air. Because it's in the middle of a desert there is lots of heat and no breeze - think this week and add 10degrees or so. Having said that the trip to the Grand Canyon was awesome in the true sense of the word.
I've felt far worse this week than I've ever done in LV or even Death Valley, it's hot but it's dry heat.
YellsiBabs · 22/07/2021 23:05

Paris is an absolute shit-hole. Dirty & unsafe. Spent a lot of time there for work (probably added to why I didn’t enjoy it) and once you’ve seen the sights, you notice how rank and filthy and smelly it is. Also Parisian people are some of the rudest people I have ever encountered.

Thewinterofdiscontent · 22/07/2021 23:07

Amsterdam. I’ve been numerous times thinking I was just unlucky. Nope, actively disliked it every time. Smug, grotty and too townie for me. And cold and wet.

Toulouse. Just like every other large town but French.

Miami. Pointlessly large.

St Ives. Too small. But insanely busy.

HazelBite · 22/07/2021 23:08

Edinburgh
Souless touristy place, Glasgow, one of the best shopping areas ever!

I love the countryside (especially Scotland) but New York does it for me.

JudgeJ · 22/07/2021 23:10

@Egghead68

Oh yes - Gibraltar definitely
We lived there for five years when the border was closed, we loved almost every minute but, because of living with the military, we had a ready made social life, lots of sailing, we also had no children for the first few years. Having been back more recently couldn't believe how narrow the Main Street was, I can see why it's not liked by tourists,
shewalkslikerihanna · 22/07/2021 23:11

Our villa was absolutely immaculate
You couldn’t fault it
And was huge
We easily got a dozen people in on the night
Can’t see how being situated in a forest was fake scenery
Pool and restaurants closed so cannot comment on them

redandwhite1 · 22/07/2021 23:11

Benidorm

COPPER3 · 22/07/2021 23:12

UK - Bournemouth, Slough, Prestatyn, Leeds....
Overseas - Berlin - bored shitless after 24hrs. Dublin. Geneva, Istanbul, New York. Gosh so many cities I have been to and enjoyed, but would not want to visit again. ROME, my dream destination for ever, could not get over the shock of seeing the traffic/people/tourists.. I would love to return in the Winter months when it is less busy.

JudgeJ · 22/07/2021 23:14

@BarbaraofSeville

Why do so many people go to 'Brits abroad' type places like some parts of the Algarve, Costa del Sol etc if that's not what they like?

Every single one of those areas/places/islands has other areas that are much quieter/more authentic with local food and interesting things to do. Why not go there instead?

It may surprise you that it's not only 'Brits' who go to those places, there are lots of Germs, Frens, Amers etc.. What does come out through these posts is that many people seem to want all places to be like where they live now, so why bother leaving?
COPPER3 · 22/07/2021 23:15

I love Bath! and Warwick! London...adore the history!

KitKatKong · 22/07/2021 23:15

Cuba- everyone was hustling and felt on guard. Might be fine if stay in a resort but not if you travel around.

shewalkslikerihanna · 22/07/2021 23:16

Harlow Carr gardens
The one in N Yorks
NOT the one 10 minutes from Bath
I found it very disappointing

Much prefer Harrogate city centre valley gardens, stunning mature trees well laid out gardens and all free

BoysTownGang · 22/07/2021 23:16

Halifax!!
Very weird vibes, felt intimidated and won’t ever return.

shewalkslikerihanna · 22/07/2021 23:17

Cuba was fascinating from a historical point of view and I’d love to go back

slug · 22/07/2021 23:21

New Orleans. It's sleazy and downright dangerous. One night as I was walking back to my accommodation there was a fight at the end of the street. I cannot emphasis how disconcerting it is to hear a bullet whizz past your ear. I ducked, ran and left the next day.

TheSunShinesBrighter · 22/07/2021 23:21

Abersoch.

Colourful chino shorts, gingham shirts and boat shoes galore! The uniform of the Cheshire boating fraternity who love to swarm in every summer to their holiday homes.
They fill the place and love to swagger.

Felt like I was trespassing. Absolutely awful.

wanttomarryamillionaire · 22/07/2021 23:24

Cornwall. Boring, rude people and full of liberal media types at their second homes.

Thewinterofdiscontent · 22/07/2021 23:26

What does come out through these posts is that many people seem to want all places to be like where they live now, so why bother leaving?

Really? I got the exact opposite. That places you think will have a unique character are all much the same; grotty, rubbish strewn tips, with too many tourists and rip off prices.

itsanightmare · 22/07/2021 23:26

Lol and Hmm to the people saying London. I am imagining it was a weekend trip, stopping off at Leicester Square, Trafalgar Square, Oxford Street shops, and then staying at the Travelodge off Covent Garden, after which they think they've "seen and done" all there is to London.
