Where's somewhere you've visited but wouldn't want to go back to?

Positive and negative!

I went to Las Vegas, glad I went, but no desire to return! :)

Would never return to Warwick Castle. It's quite over rated...and not much even happened there, it just looks the part! :)

@IseeScottishhills

Og nearly forgot Malta a total dump IMO.
I loved Malta. Mine would have to be Blackpool . Also as PP mentioned Las Vegas.

@DismantledKing

Hastings. What a shithole. Poole. Ditto
Poole is awesome. Sure the town centre is crap, but so many beautiful places in Poole and nearby - how is it a shithole?
blissfulllife · 22/07/2021 12:23

@Monoxide

Birmingham. I’ve never gone anywhere else in the UK where people hassled you on the street for money. London, Edinburgh, Liverpool, Newcastle - nobody has ever approached me on the street and made me feel threatened. But in Birmingham it happened repeatedly; on my first walk through the city centre I was approached about 3-4 times and asked for money. It kept happening so I left early because it spoiled my visit.
I've lived in Birmingham all my life and I rarely go into the city now for this very reason. It's awful and scary.

Newquay in Cornwall for me. Couldn't wait to leave.

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 22/07/2021 12:23

Holloway Prison

(Not really, I haven't been there... yet)

OttilieKnackered · 22/07/2021 12:23

Croyde. Soulless. Obviously a surfing place but there’s not really anything else. Not even a decent pub.

BonnyandPoppy · 22/07/2021 12:24

Beamish Museum. Went last week. Expensive and everything left to rot and rust, hardly any information signs on the exhibits and the tram wasn’t running so had to walk miles round the place when it was boiling hot. St Fagan‘s in Cardiff is much, much better and free to get in!

Soubriquet · 22/07/2021 12:25

I agree with Turkey but I might be biased as I was seriously ill there when I went and actually manage to shit myself as a child Blush

Also, I can’t remember the exact time, but there was something going on that meant Turkey was in a depression or something like that (was a long time ago).

There were a lot of beggars including a woman who grabbed my arm trying to put a bracelet on it and forcing my parents to pay.

I have no real desire to go back there

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 22/07/2021 12:26

We really loved Pevensey - it has that old-time, past-it's-heyday charm.

Agree on Oxford: you have great expectations of the 'City of Dreaming Spires', but it's just quite an ordinary medium-sized city like lots of others.

I would add the Eden Project. It's nice enough to go to once, but nowhere near as special as it's made out to be, just because it's located inside some gigantic golf balls.

TheHuntingOfTheSarky · 22/07/2021 12:26

Definitely Kidderminster - I had to drive through it last month and it's absolutely bloody awful. Rude drivers and more roundabouts than Milton Keynes. I don't care that they have a Museum of Carpet!

Scarborough
Whitby
Whitstable
Salcombe
St Ives
Harrogate
Stoke on Trent

Lentil63 · 22/07/2021 12:26

Las Vegas, never again.

Flamglimglubberty · 22/07/2021 12:28

Turkey

The attitude towards women is horrific. All the touters outside the bars deemed me as fair game, every night they'd grab me and forcibly restrain me until our group agreed to go into their bar.

Once we were in we were always given the tourist menu that was 5 times the price of the local menu. We only ever managed to get a local menu as we had a Turkish girl in our group.

Comedycook · 22/07/2021 12:28

Thornton heath....shudder

Honestly I'm no stranger to some grimy parts of London, but I felt genuinely scared in Thornton Heath even with my dh who is not a wimpy kind of bloke by any means.

Soubriquet · 22/07/2021 12:28

Those saying Las Vegas and New Orleans can you say why.

They are two places I would love to visit. I know everyone’s opinions would be different but it would be interesting to know why you wouldn’t go back

QueenieMum · 22/07/2021 12:28

In this country Ludlow - visited twice & for some inexplicable reason felt hugely irritated by everyone there & wanted to leave as soon as I could. Once I'd left I felt fine again. Never felt like that anywhere else before or since.

Egypt - amazing artefacts & places to visit and I'm glad I experienced it. I wasn't expecting to be so ill during the holiday, genuinely felt I was going to die on the loo at one point. Never again.

IseeScottishhills · 22/07/2021 12:29

@FedNlanders

I didnt enjoy Rome either. We had fun but it would not need a 2nd visit.
2nd visit, 3rd visit, 4th visit different times of the year its truly the most amazing city in the world so much to see I could go three times a year for the rest of my life and still not see everything. Just sitting outside a cafe and people watching is fascinating; watching the Italians promenade in the their casual a but expensive clothes intrigues me. I genuinely puzzled that anyone can hate Rome. Round every corner is something to see. I love Italy in general but for me Rome is on a different planet.
Carrott21 · 22/07/2021 12:30

Dublin and Ireland generally.

Mrsjayy · 22/07/2021 12:31

Bath, thought it would be beautiful but Harrogate (10 minutes up the road) is far nicer 🤷🏼‍♀️

10 minutes from you ?

I really love Bath and have definitely gone back.

Glastonbury the place is weird and smells " herbally " !

IseeScottishhills · 22/07/2021 12:31

@Carrott21

Dublin and Ireland generally.
DH went to Dublin for work he was totally underwhelmed friend said the same thing.
muddyford · 22/07/2021 12:31

Plymouth.
Birmingham New Street station!

wanderedlonelyasacloud · 22/07/2021 12:31

I had the same thoughts about oxford as previous posters!

I would also never go back to fuertaventura and I didnt really like Paphos in cyprus either.

ProperVexed · 22/07/2021 12:32

Centre Parcs. Wanted to go for years. Absolutely hated it!

Arsebucket · 22/07/2021 12:33

@IseeScottishhills I can’t pinpoint why I hated it so much. But I didn’t like that part of Italy. I didn’t like Naples either.

I love Northern Italy though. I could go back to Venice again and again, and my parents in law live an hour or so north up towards the mountains. I love it.

Just not a fan of further south.

Arsebucket · 22/07/2021 12:34

(though i know Rome is in the middle rather than south!)

muddyford · 22/07/2021 12:34

Had blotted the horrors of Oxford from my memory. A traffic-infested dump. Cambridge is much nicer to walk round.

tillytoodles1 · 22/07/2021 12:35

Paris.
