Where's somewhere you've visited but wouldn't want to go back to?

Positive and negative!

I went to Las Vegas, glad I went, but no desire to return! :)

Would never return to Warwick Castle. It's quite over rated...and not much even happened there, it just looks the part! :)

San Francisco... I travelled over quite a lot of the USA 4 years ago and it was the only place we (went with adult daughter) felt unsafe. Terrible poverty, and the drug problem :(

There were strung out on crack addicts begging all long Pier 39 and the famous promenade, it was so sad. We stayed in a lovely Airbnb but the local supermarket had most items behind locked cabinets..even stuff like shampoo! It was the only place that we didn't go out at night.

I wouldn't revisit Las Vegas.. went there to do the Grand Canyon and it was surreal.. great for 3 days but 3 days was enough!

Oxford IS overrated... I live here and totally agree!

IseeScottishhills · 22/07/2021 12:35

I've been to Venice I loved it but probably wouldn't bother to go again. I agree about north up in the mountains, I love Bergamo, especially the cold part, in fact hoping to go back next year.

ClaraThePigeon · 22/07/2021 12:35

The Calton in Glasgow. I'm from Glasgow but I've never felt so unsafe as when I last visited there. (Not for pleasure I might add) It makes my skin crawl just thinking about it. There was a needle in the sanitary bin in Morrisons too. Luckily I just avoided it. I wouldn't return if you paid me.

The Leaning Tower of Pisa.
Anticlimactic

Gladimnotcampinginthisweather · 22/07/2021 12:36

Soubriquet we used to love Sundown Adventure and. Haven't been for a while now as youngest grandchild is 11, but we have many happy memories. Maybe they haven't updated recently, or struggled during Covid.

itbemay1 · 22/07/2021 12:37

Bangkok. Smelt awful and was so humid!

IseeScottishhills · 22/07/2021 12:37

@SleepingStandingUp

The Leaning Tower of Pisa. Anticlimactic
nnd heaving in tourists!
Shakirasma · 22/07/2021 12:37

Bognor Regis. Never, ever again. Not even if you paid me.

janj2301 · 22/07/2021 12:38

Alcatraz, glad I went but it seems to suck the life out of you as you get off the boat, most depressing place I have ever been

LesLavandes · 22/07/2021 12:38

Khao Lak in Thailand. Beautiful beach but didn't enjoy the place

GiveMyHeadPeaceffs · 22/07/2021 12:39

Bodrum in Turkey. Hated the vibe. I was in my late 20s and kept getting hassled and groped. I wore long skirts and "modest" tops when out but still got a lot of hassle. So just no.

Agree with pp about Birmingham. Just not my place at all.

Dublin is just alright but I love Belfast, I'm Northern Irish and just think it's a great city.

PP mentioned hating Gran Canaria because of the wind...my dream place is Lanzarote, I love it and I'd move there tomorrow if I could particularly to La Santa or Teguise.

Ah this was 6 years ago so not recent. It was very tired then. Don’t know about lately though
Aroundtheworldin80moves · 22/07/2021 12:40

Las Vegas. It was just all the same. Not particularly into Casinos though. Just preferred the other stuff we did on that holiday

Dominican Republic. Went when I was 19 on what I now see was Volunteer Tourism. But it really did highlight how the AI tourist trade could be bad for the locals and the environment in those countries. Away from the tourist areas it was absolutely beautiful and the people we met were lovely.

It's a prison though 🤨
Mixmeup · 22/07/2021 12:42

Brighton.

What a shithole. So dirty. Litter everywhere. Homeless people everywhere. Aggressive begging. The boho ‘atmosphere’ is comprised of a string of tacky shops selling overpriced tat and ‘crystals’. Locals are not actually hippies but rich Londoners with pretentions.

And the beach is a huge crowded heap of uncomfortable stones interspersed with litter, drug paraphernalia and the stench of weed.

Realllly not a fan.

SmidgenofaPigeon · 22/07/2021 12:42

😂 I don’t think Alcatraz is a place you’re supposed to want to go back to 😂

EssentialHummus · 22/07/2021 12:42

Agree with a PP about Margate - gentrification my hairy backside.

I don't get the love for Cornwall and why half the country is ready to pay ££££ for accommodation to spend hours in their cars driving down and then hours more looking for parking/going at snails' pace through tourist throngs, going to rammed beaches etc. We're an island. There's plenty of coast.

Overseas - Marrakesh. Just unpleasant, felt I had to be constantly on guard against beggars and pickpockets, constantly getting scammed in small but irritating ways (like being sold watered-down orange juice rather than the stuff coming out of the juicer).

TravelDreamLife · 22/07/2021 12:43

Opinion from other side of the world....

Fiji. Yawn. Dull, Nadi is too dangerous to wander around alone, it takes hours by bus to get to a resort with a decent beach. Most resort beaches are man made. Food is crap. It's hugely popular tho.

Vanuatu is much better if you get out of Vila & mix with the locals. Bonus points if you go to Tanna & climb the volcano.

waterlego · 22/07/2021 12:43

New York.

To be fair, we were only there a few days and it was August so the heat and humidity was unbearable. I would probably give it another chance in autumn or spring but there are a lot of other places I’d go to first.

BabyFartsDoStink · 22/07/2021 12:43

San Francisco was a good trip but that was years ago. It sounds like it has gone downhill and I wouldn't go back.

Gladimnotcampinginthisweather · 22/07/2021 12:44

Prague
Paris
Been once, no need to go back.
LAX - never again.

janj2301 · 22/07/2021 12:44

Loved Las Vegas, not the glitzy hotels/casinos, but I found a lot else to do and people watching is a great passtime. Lived in Jakarta for sereval years so possibly biased, people wonderful, corruption and poverty terrible.

Eaumyword · 22/07/2021 12:44

Cairo.
Upsetting to see so much poverty and animal abuse and lots of begging/pickpocketing.
The pyramids were not what I'd naively expected at all - I'd assumed they would be hollow inside, not a munchkin height sharp gradient climb to the (obviously airless) and nothing to see top - not ideal for claustrophobia!
Not Cairo's fault of course, but I went through passport control fine but DH was detained?! Nobody spoke English so we were panicking, wondering what the hell they thought had happened? Our driver appeared (thank god we had booked a transfer to the hotel) and explained everything - turns out it was a case of mistaken identity. They thought DH was wanted by Interpol for something. This is absolutely, 100% true and my god, was about 15min of sheer panic. No apologies given, we were just waved on, but we were glad to get away from the begunned uniformed officials in the airport.
So no, not really Cairo again!Grin

waterlego · 22/07/2021 12:45

Alcatraz is amazing. I’ve been three times and find it fascinating!

Mochudubh · 22/07/2021 12:45

@WeatherwaxLives

Arbroath

Nothing particularly wrong with it, just... nothing there... (also I'm allergic to fish, which is the main attraction!) not really sure why I went in the first place, actually.

Also Sterling, or at least, I wouldn't go there in October. Honestly, I'd believe you if you told me it was colder in Sterling than the North Pole. I've never experienced cold like it!

Do you mean "Stirling"?
