I'm so sick of the rags that pass for 'journalism' in this country. It's actually embarrassing.

I imagine he was tipped off or asked to comment on it. He's had overwhelming support, they probably binned it for now.

You'd imagine that the spectator would back down because he's so well loved? But they knew that already.

I mean I think he's a bloody brilliant bloke who has done some amazing things but this is a whole thread with some wild allegations based on a completely unfounded tweet that MR made.

It's bizarre.

I found this quite an interesting read on The Spectator. Its powerful tentacles but also its weaknesses.

Chilling stuff. Cult of The Coup.

lannistunut · 23/07/2021 21:31

One thing I do think is true is Rashford gives a lot of time to the causes he supports, he definitely does visit all those schools etc.

I also think him talking about poverty will help tackle the stigma.

I hope it was a nasty r-w hatchet job they've decided to bury, rather than something dreadful. It'd be nice to keep having him as a decent role model.

Pinkcadillac · 24/07/2021 21:03

Does anyone have a link to the article?

EchoNan · 24/07/2021 21:10

@Pinkcadillac It never materialised. There is no article. So far.Smile
Just an attempted smear campaign from some on here, made of straw.

Pinkcadillac · 24/07/2021 21:13

Thanks Echonan. I saw one article from 16th June on their website so it couldn't have been that one. Mystery solved.

This is rather odd - not sure what to make of it really. Looks like it was meant to be some kind of expose of the Spectator’s motives and methods, but to do this the author made up random stuff about Marcus.

So man A completely trashes the reputation of man B by lying about them to get newspaper C to print a false story which they didn't print because they didn't have sufficient evidence?

And man A thinks he's the good guy in the situation. What a twerp. Poor Marcus Rashford having lies put around about him.

Tinpotspectator · 07/08/2021 23:53

Jesus. The arseholes at the Spectator complaining about tax evasion, having carried such a candle for that Panama performer Johnson??

Earlydancing · 07/08/2021 23:56

Why are you blaming the Spectator? Someone brought an allegation. They couldn't substantiate it. They didn't print it. Surely the guy who lied is the one you should be condemning.

OhWhyNot · 08/08/2021 00:11

The press have always sneered at footballers who are mainly working class

And to be black and working class and creating awareness and change that so many have applaud is just to much for some to take

It’s beyond pathetic

JemimaTab · 08/08/2021 03:06

I think the “journalist” in question is female, but yep very questionable methods. Very questionable.

longwayoff · 08/08/2021 06:22

Par for the course. This is what 'journalism' has become, trawling the net for dregs. Surprised it didnt print.
