I'm so sick of the rags that pass for 'journalism' in this country. It's actually embarrassing.

@TonTonMacoute

No one should be given a free pass on wrongdoing just because they do good works. This could be something his managers are doing on his behalf and that he knows nothing about.

It is right that it is investigated fairly and if he has done nothing wrong then he should be able to prove it quite easily and the Speccie will look silly. It is not likely to do any serious damage his saintly image.

LOL. What 'wrongdoing' and 'investigation'

I'll say it again, this country doesn't deserve him

I see the "hang em flog em" brigade are alive and well in 2021.

Where is this "investigation?" to which you refer.

There isn't one.

@Orf1abc

There's a certain irony that Crankley, oft defender of Johnson and Patel, claims to have an interest in the truth!

The Spectator is owned by the Barclay Brothers, who also own the Telegraph, and are (were - one is now dead) tax exiles. Rashford has done more in his short life for the country, than the Barclay family ever did in their many years of extreme wealth.

Well said.
JaneJeffer · 21/07/2021 15:17

Seems a bit...hysterical. Try not to get so worked up, poppet. Grin

 I imagine @Crankley screaming YOU CAN'T HANDLE THE TRUTH!

derxa · 21/07/2021 15:20

The Daily Mail is too busy reporting on the rackety private life of another black England player Kyle Walker

jay55 · 21/07/2021 15:21

Bizarre isn't it. When a bunch of billionaires are spaffing money up in space.

@Crankley

I love all the hysteria before the article is even printed. I subscribe to The Spectator and will copy/paste the full article tomorrow if you are interested. I somehow doubt you are - when have you ever been interested in the truth?
Lecturing to us all on the truth and you subscribe to the Spectator.

You must have a neck like a jockey's bollocks.

youshallnotpass9 · 21/07/2021 15:25

Its thanks to him, we are able to feed our child during the summer,

Its thanks to this government that we struggle to feed our child this summer.

I heard a great quote in the last few weeks,
"what world do we live in where footballers are feeding our children and politicians are having affairs"

And people think that is ok

Freshprincess · 21/07/2021 15:28

read his Twitter. He is saying that the story says he benefitted commercially from his charity work last year. He has replied that the partnerships he entered into directly benefited the charities he’s involved with.

Nobody has mentioned tax evasion.

Kyle Walkers neighbours are objecting to his planning application for a pool and sauna. Which they are entitled to do. I wonder why the DM didn't report on my objections to NN plans.? A tad unfair of you DM.

Probably more of a Captain Mainwaring in Dad's Army than a Jack Nicholson in A Few Good Men. Wink

Spectator subscribers 86,000. Rashford followers 2,600,000+. Envy

TheMarzipanDildo · 21/07/2021 15:41

To clarify for those at the back, Rashford is not being accused of tax evasion!

No. He's being obliquely accused, I fully expect, of being an uppity Black man who doesn't know his place. That's what I'd expect from The Spectator, no matter how they care to dress it up. Let's wait and see.

FlorenceWintle · 21/07/2021 15:58

It’s an easy shot at a much desired target.

Some of the press in this country are an absolute embarrassment.

TheWashingMachine · 21/07/2021 15:59

Have any of you read the article yet? The Spectator is an excellent publication. I will also read the article and make up my own mind.

IntermittentParps · 21/07/2021 16:04

I await the article with interest.

longwayoff · 21/07/2021 16:17

Some think it an excellent publication. Others consider it a vituperative, biased right-wing rag for people who happily believe they are the right wing intelligentsia if there be such a thing. It hasn't changed in years, although the writers have, the agenda remains the same.

Postdatedpandemic · 21/07/2021 16:23

Marcus Rashford has a couple of limited companies. Footballing only lasts a short while and he is already diversifying. Makes sense to set up a model to keep him with a salary for life.
The accusations will be that he has taken directors loans to assist in tax avoidance (not tax evasion which is illegal) . But accounts for this have not been published yet, so the tax office may be fine with it or it may be just some jealous journos fantasy.
Pretty small stuff compared to our right honourable leaders.
