I'm so sick of the rags that pass for 'journalism' in this country. It's actually embarrassing.

I'm not a fan of his at all. The only reason he was poor growing up as a child was because, I understand, his father walked out on the family. It's nothing to do with the government; it's not their responsibility to feed children people chose to have. Neither is it the taxpayers, which is where the real money comes from.

The wealthy footballers at the top of the leagues refused to be furloughed and take a pay cut even though the ground staff etc. had to. I would have had more admiration for him if he had run a campaign to shame all the men who walk away from their children without paying a penny towards their upbringing. He also could have tried to persuade all his rich mates to agree to chip in a fair proportion of their salary to a charity of their choice. Then I could start singing his praises.

longwayoff · 21/07/2021 16:28

Quite. If I had to choose between, ooh let's see, Toby Young, Rod Liddle, James Delingpole or Rashford as an MP I know where my vote would go.

the little blighter should have been shamed rather than given free meals. Imagine choosing to be fathered by a feckless man.

Sorry, let me check. You don’t like Marcus Rashford because of the actions of his father??

What???

So you think children should starve because of no fault of their own?

Nasty attitude.

I was one of those children and I thank the stars that the state was there to help and support me. Instead of leave me to starve. And now, I’m doing very well and paying it back as a higher rate tax payer.

I hope you never end up down on your luck.

JaneJeffer · 21/07/2021 16:31

Isn't that why Marcus Rashford had to step in? Because people don't care that children are going hungry. It's a disgusting attitude.

EchoNan · 21/07/2021 16:33

Ah yes, fathers not paying a penny for children they have walked away from.
Boris Johnson for example.
Perhaps his rich mates might want to have a word......

SnakeyTakey · 21/07/2021 16:34

People happy to see the government wasting hundreds of millions on useless PPE, happy to see them funneling contracts worth many tens of millions to their chums. Happy to see the government scoffing at the trough improving their own bank balances. All that is fine.

It's feeding hungry children where these citizens draw the line. Full bellies are an outrage!

SnakeyTakey · 21/07/2021 16:35

Get back to me when feckless Daddio Boris Johnson publicly acknowledges all his children.

longwayoff · 21/07/2021 16:40

quizqueen may you remain in robust good health, able to work every day and build yourself a stack of cash to enable you to sustain your world view. As you smugly survey the lesser plebs who have not had your advantages, cross your entitled.fingers that you will be able to remain in your bubble of unenlightened self interest. Dont lose your job. May your husband not abandon you and your family. Stay healthy. Dont lose mobility. Dont lose your house. You think it's all due to your own hard work don't you? 90 percent of what you have is luck. I hope you dont have to find that out.

AlternativePerspective · 21/07/2021 16:41

The spectator have somewhat of a history with British government don’t they?

The woman who had an affair with David Blunkett worked for the spectator IIRC, and he ended up having to resign because he abused his position as Home Secretary to fast-track a visa for her nanny to look after the child he fathered.

Hi Boris, I think you need to sit down.

He doesn't need to justify himself to you. He's paid more to charity than you can dream of earning in your lifetime. 125% his net worth I believe is the stat linked to upthread

You're talking rubbish about 'refusing to be furloughed'. Stop being so stupid, why would someone on £100k a week be 'furloughed' at £400 a week Confused

It’s obvious he would benefit commercially as a result of his actions. He’s exactly the sort of person any brand would want to work with and his value will have gone up accordingly.

It would be nice to think he gave more money away as a result but really, why should he?

Snookie00 · 21/07/2021 16:52

Jeez. Just when you think you’ve read the low point of the stupidity and general meanness of spirit of Rashford-bashers. Someone here thinks he is not a fan because a) his dad caused his poverty and b) he concentrated on feeding kids rather than campaigning to change the law on fathers abandoning their kids.

Stunned that some people have the lack of insight into how their opinions make them look like total assholes.

JaneJeffer · 21/07/2021 16:59

People like that enjoy every minute of being a dickhead.

gollyh · 21/07/2021 17:12

Unfortunately a lot of people think this

gollyh · 21/07/2021 17:14

Somehow they think this comes out of their pocket or the fact they didn't have the number of children they would have liked means why should others have what they do. For some reason this logic never applies to billions wasted on PPE etc.

Look how some thought furlough were benefit scroungers, it's crazy

CloudPop · 21/07/2021 17:33

@HmmmmmmInteresting

Have they done any pieces on the dodgy contracts the Tories awarded their donors during the pandemic? Companies with no assets and no experience being awarded millions of pounds worth of contracts?
This has been completely ignored. It's almost like the British public just expect and accept this kind of behaviour. I'm amazed by how relaxed people are about this.
evtheria · 21/07/2021 17:36

@MyOtherProfile “It hasn't been the same since you left though, Boris.”

Also, I just cannot understand how anyone can be comfortable with knowing that children are going hungry.

Well said. I can’t believe what that poster actually said. Blaming children for the actions of their parents? Horrendous. Not to mention that just maybe people could afford their children when they were born but then life( like a global pandemic) got in the way and they suddenly lost their business due to lockdown or others events. How dare they not have a crystal ball.
SnakeyTakey · 21/07/2021 17:42

@CloudPop

It's very Victorian. In Ireland, during the famine, the starving had to help build dry stone walls throughout the countryside before they could be given soup. Charity was considered bad for people's moral fibre. Free soup to starving people and you're one step away from Sodom and Gomorrah. Same with workhouses.

And we see it today, some people like to think that poverty only happens to the feckless and the lazy.

This is becoming a bit Dickensian.

Let's hope the abandoned street urchins don't take a similar attitude to paying for your old-age pension when the time comes.

wallpapering · 21/07/2021 18:34

You do realise that a lot of these private catering companies to schools were linked / ties to Tories.

Like my DS school who provided shameful food parcel that cost under £5 for 2weeks so they made a profit of £25 but that’s ok, yet giving parents £15 vouchers to buy food and yes you couldn’t buy fags booze cuddly toy of drugs and we was viewed as scum of the earth who drained tax payers.

You do know that every government dept ie like these services that replaced likes of sure start called parent conflict - go look at trustees and who’s on board of these private companies sold as gov dept

But I gather all you bitching have looked into
this also know that
The Government company house information Service gives different Company No. to the registers Capita in link aka knowledgepool that other official companies info

Knowledge Pool is in charge of government Reducing Parent Conflict Programme which in 2019 had £39million chucked at it (not sure how much it got as included research – which haven’t seen who exactly running that company)

But you know all this.

There a lot more have published but not sure if allowed even though it public info just follow money

Marcus Rashfords mum & him didn’t become what even Boris said ‘basically dregs of society which is everything that is wrong.

There was fuckall support around time MB born, society still viewed us single parent like we should be in workhouses, food banks rare, help with child care no existence, dole office as know back then was like scene out of bread programme, if u old as men

But yeah let’s blame the fucking single mothers who sleep around get knocked up to produce kids that future is 4walls and bars.

I'm glad The Spectator are doing a hit peice on MR.
Maybe it will open some eyes to what a hate filled racist rag The Spectator is.
