Is this an ‘ageing’ hairstyle for someone nearly 50?

I love this cut, I showed it to a colleague and she said it’s a ‘Karen’. I hate that phrase and can’t understand why it’s been attributed to women with short hair??

My hair is already short, think chin length all the way around but I’d love a complete change.

WWYD? Is it a nice cut? And how easy is it to do? I don’t want to ask my hairdresser for something she will struggle to do.

That’s lovely and a good cut too.

Sanguinesuzy · 17/07/2021 18:36

I like it too. Really suits you. I quite liked the photos you showed tbh but then I am 55 and obviously completely devoid of any fashion sense Grin.

That's a really nice cut OP and really suits you.

The name Karen was chosen not because of age, but because of race and class

No. It was chosen to demean women because of their age and sex.

OP - haircut looks great.

Blossomtoes · 17/07/2021 19:01

Fab haircut @Toastedcheese.

JoyOrbison · 17/07/2021 19:15

It doesn't matter where the Karen meme % cut originated from, it matters people are keeping it going and using is as a put down, especially women.

Op your hair looks lovely, I love the fact it's not bouffant and over styled, the softness of it really suits you (I have got v v similar cut and no one bothers with the Karen shit with me, and anyone that tried it got very blunt reply)

HerMammy · 17/07/2021 19:25

Awful haircut, I always wonder what makes ppl get it.

twointhemorning · 17/07/2021 19:36

You look fab! It really suits you.

twointhemorning · 17/07/2021 19:43

@HerMammy do you mean to be so incredibly rude.

I've had to get my hair cut really short prior to chemo and it might look a little like those haircuts you are so dismissive of.
I can't believe how people are being so horrible about hair cuts on this thread.

NoBetterthanSheShouldBe · 17/07/2021 19:44

Obviously this doesn’t apply to you OP - you look lovely. Agree it’s lovely and soft.

For the benefit of others considering it - acquaintance in her 60s has just had this haircut. The front looks fine, but because the undercut goes halfway up her head and she has a short, thick neck she looks very thuggish from behind.

notacooldad · 17/07/2021 19:45

The haircut looks great on you. I really like the colour as well.
You look fab.

OverByYer · 17/07/2021 19:48

Lovely cut and colour. You look great

notacooldad · 17/07/2021 19:49

This ageing thing is very difficult, I never worried about a thing 30 years ago!
Dont I know it!!
My hair is still quite long but I make sure I have regular cuts to keep it flattering and have told my hairdresser the minute I look like a hang dog the hair goes!!

spinningspaniels · 17/07/2021 20:03

That really suits you OP, and looks fab!

ItPearl · 17/07/2021 20:06

I like it! Very chic @Toastedcheese

peridito · 17/07/2021 20:14

Looks fantastic .Must be a great hairdresser ! (though you've got lovely hair to start with )

Mummyoflittledragon · 17/07/2021 20:21

That looks lovely. Smile

GuckGuckDoose · 17/07/2021 20:28

That’s a really great cut OP, much softer and more flattering and stylish than the original pics. You look super!

thewinehasgonetomyhead · 17/07/2021 20:39

Gosh you look amazing OP. Good for you, you look so much younger. If you haven't got one already, buy a Babyliss Big hair dryer it'll help recreate the style at home the way your hairdresser has. I posted about my hair a while back, asking for ideas I'm so tempted now by PPs suggestion.

I recently had my hair cut and it wasn't supposed to look like these but that's what I ended up with. A work colleague was saying it was nice and as soon as I said I wasn't keen because it wasn't what I had asked for my colleagues IMMEDIATE response was "did you ask to speak to the manager?"

I went back the next day and had it cut into the shorter pixie that I'd actually asked for.

FrangipaniBlue · 17/07/2021 20:52

@Toastedcheese

Okay here goes. I did say I didn’t want it too spiky but with light layers. The colour is graduated to dark blonde at the back. I feel it’s a bit more versatile and I can either tuck it behind my ears or not.

I do like it, which is all that matters I suppose!

I love this on you! It's definitely not a "Karen" though Smile
Bagelsandbrie · 17/07/2021 21:00

Looks lovely op!

AnyFucker · 17/07/2021 21:12

That is fab, op

blaisealex · 17/07/2021 21:17

I never normally comment but I've just seen your photos, OP. It looks absolutely gorgeous and really suits you!! Wear that hair proudly. You look lovely!

LimeRedBanana · 17/07/2021 21:18

The name Karen was chosen not because of age, but because of race and class.

The name ‘Karen’ was very much chosen for all three reasons - race, class and age.

A ‘Karen’ is not a 20-something. A Karen is very specifically a 40-something+ Gen Xer.

The very name Karen is from that generation. There is no denying that the term absolutely is ageist.
