Is this an ‘ageing’ hairstyle for someone nearly 50?

I love this cut, I showed it to a colleague and she said it’s a ‘Karen’. I hate that phrase and can’t understand why it’s been attributed to women with short hair??

My hair is already short, think chin length all the way around but I’d love a complete change.

WWYD? Is it a nice cut? And how easy is it to do? I don’t want to ask my hairdresser for something she will struggle to do.

@LimeRedBanana. I don't know any Gen X Karen's though (I'm 46). The only ones I've met are around 60, so late Boomers!

Come to my town! There 100's of them between 45 and 65!

OK, just my experience then. I've literally never met one who was within 10 years of my age. Maybe it's a regional thing.

If you like it OP then get that haircut. I wouldn't worry about what anyone thinks, and people calling it a "Karen" haircut are idiots with not an original thought in their brain.

@warmandtoasty2day

some of the pp on here should jog on with their bitchy comments re, aging and dated karens etc. so pathetic. it's yourhair wear it how you want, it doesn't matter what randoms think. Mine's bright pink but i'm old enough not to give a damn anyway Smile
Its literally what the OP asked though

I’m 47 and went to school and uni with a load of then.

In any case - Gen X / Boomer - the point is, it clearly is aimed at older women!

Oh that looks great OP

I wasn't sure when you shared the photos earlier but that looks great on you

Divebar2021 · 18/07/2021 12:35

It looks lovely OP.

@Toastedcheese

Okay here goes. I did say I didn’t want it too spiky but with light layers. The colour is graduated to dark blonde at the back. I feel it’s a bit more versatile and I can either tuck it behind my ears or not.

I do like it, which is all that matters I suppose!

It looks lovely. It suits you 🙂

She’s done a wonderful job you look 10 years younger xxx

@LimeRedBanana

The name Karen was chosen not because of age, but because of race and class.

The name ‘Karen’ was very much chosen for all three reasons - race, class and age.

A ‘Karen’ is not a 20-something. A Karen is very specifically a 40-something+ Gen Xer.

The very name Karen is from that generation. There is no denying that the term absolutely is ageist.

The "Karen" thing was really an American thing, and it became conflated with the "speak to the manager" hairstyle, which was more of a UK thing, iirc.

But yes - white, middle-aged etc. Good article here www.insider.com/karen-meme-origin-the-history-of-calling-women-karen-white-2020-5

ItPearl · 19/07/2021 12:56

Load of shit. That article starts out as though it were a given, a truth that middle aged white women are ''problematic''. Or that is supported by some data somewhere that these middle aged women are displaying more entitlement than ........ men their age? Men younger than them?

Are middle aged white women the most racist group? Really? is that supported by any data at all.
