Tell me about your delicious unusual crisp finds

By unusual I mean anything and everything other than cheese and onion, salt and vinegar, ready salted! For as long as I can remember those are the only flavours I’ve ever eaten. I love food and different flavours and will eat anything but the thought of those flavours or meals as crisps was just odd to me Confused

Yesterday I was at a bbq and they had none of my bog standard flavours. Usually I wouldn’t try it at all but I thought after the year I had, I thought let me live a little Grin Omg so good! One was sweet chilli and the other roast chicken & thyme. On my way back home yesterday I bought a McCoy’s steak flavour for later today.

What else have I been missing out on??

I love walkers sensations balsamic vinegar and onion

irresistibleoverwhelm · 27/06/2021 14:08

M&S Worcester sauce ones. Food of the gods (as long as you don’t mind salt poisoning and a minor heart attack afterwards 🤣)

"Walkers Tomato Sauce" are disgusting 🤢

MillionBells · 27/06/2021 14:12

I remember the hedgehog crisps. I used to like burger bites crisps in the 80s

H1978 · 27/06/2021 14:12

Sainsbury’s mature cheddar and spring onion flavour crisps are amazing. Asda do some too but the Sainsbury’s ones are better.

Biscoffin · 27/06/2021 14:12

Pipers Wild Thyme & Rosemary are the very best crisps, IMHO.

CaptainMyCaptain · 27/06/2021 14:13

The worst crisps in the world were the ones I had in Libya - cardboard flavoured with cheapo gravy powder.

iklboo · 27/06/2021 14:15

Mushroom flavour in Bulgaria. Can't find them anywhere else and they were gorgeous.

irresistibleoverwhelm · 27/06/2021 14:16

To be fair the hedgehog crisps were just plain crisps which used the “hedgehog flavour” thing as a brand Grin I used to have them for packed lunch at school.

(If something is called “flavour” it technically doesn’t have to have any of the actual thing in it or indeed taste of it at all. If it says “flavoured” then it does. Minor labelling difference but significant! Grin)

ChickenGotLegs · 27/06/2021 14:20

I put vinegar in ready salted crisps...amazing!

Don't knock it to you've tried it 😂

PopCantStop · 27/06/2021 14:29

Oooh thanks all! I have a lovely long list!

@walkoflifewoohoo I may have done when I was a child. I’m sure I had monster munch but I just can remember the taste of them!

I really enjoyed the sweet chilli so will be trying lots of spicy ones.

Lots of people want to meet family and friends or go on holiday after the pandemic, you just want to try 'different' flavoured crisps!

Takes all sorts I guess

Grin

I’ve seen them a couple times so had my dose of them already Grin

I like Roysters T-Bone Steak
Prawn Cocktail Pringles
Prawn Cocktail Discos

My aunt brought a bag of these when we had a family picnic a few ago. I was aghast! However after trying the chicken and thyme one which was sensations I think, that’s on my list too.

Lays paprika crisps are the best,

36degrees · 27/06/2021 14:35

Although ready salted, lightly salted and unsalted are my god-tier flavours, especially if they're handmade-type crisps, Seabrooks used to do a garlic flavour that was incredible and Boots used to do a baked potato flavour in their Shapers range which was amazing. I also like Scampi Fries.

I've yet to find a flavour I'd prefer to have over ready salted. And I've tried a lot of crisps.

SirenSays · 27/06/2021 14:39

Calbee prawn crisps and oishi pea crisps

Pebbledashery · 27/06/2021 14:39

Not had these for yonks but Brannigans beef and mustard were the bomb. Dd is addicted to sour cream pringles also.

ScribblyBaller · 27/06/2021 14:45

every so often I'll buy a tube of sour cream and onion Pringles because I love the way they used to taste back in the 90s. They're a shadow of their former glorious selves sadly Sad

PopCantStop · 27/06/2021 14:50

I just ate the grill steak flavour. It was nice but not as good as the two I tried yesterday. I did enjoy the smokiness of it so will try others that are described as smokey or BBQ.

M&S have impressed me recently, they have a new wasabi popchip and a reduced fat vegetable crisp that’s chutney flavour both are good.

My absolute favourites are walkers Worcester sauce French fries, closely followed by the salt and vinegar ones.
Then spicy tomato wheat crunchies (hard to find but you can get them in mixed multi packs.)
Then Aldi Specially Selected Posh Prawn Cocktail

Biscoffin · 27/06/2021 14:59

OP, pleased the Pipers thyme and rosemary are on your list now. If you really want a good smoky BBQ flavour, then the Kettles Smoky BBQ (if you can ever find them) are amazing.

I am stunned you have achieved adulthood with so little exposure to crisp flavours, but then it reminded me of the first time I went to Germany in 1990 when the entire nation only knew paprika flavour crisps. It was an they had. A few years later (about 1994/5) on another visit I noticed that walker's (I think called Lay's over there) had died an untapped market and were heavily advertising the radical idea of these crazy English flavours of cheese and onion and salt and vinegar. I winner if they ever caught on much. That was when I realised that the Brits really are a crisp obsessed main compared to many. More there are more flavours than you can shake a stick at. But, op, you could DIY waitress than try paprika cos they are in fact yum and were good enough to be the only choice of the nation for Germany for a long time. 😆
