While I very obviously don't condone his behaviour (or handling of the pandemic) there is hardly a plethora of competent replacements which is very depressing...

I'm happy but nervous- this might be a case of "be careful what you wish for." Esther McVey has been criticising him a lot so I can only assume she wants the job.

Great that he’s gone - but given the appalling calibre of the remaining Tory sleazebags it may be a case of better the devil you know. Please god not Gove, Patel or McVey - they would happily sacrifice everyone who caught covid.

It was definitely the right thing for him to do. In doing so, he’s also undermined Boris, who stupidly backed him rather than sacking him, which I do find rather funny.

He's incompetent and corrupt but so are most of the cabinet. Johnson got rid of the experienced, decent Tories by taking the whip off them when he first became PM.

I don't hold out any hope of Hancock's replacement being aby better.

Hunt has been good throughout the pandemic but I don't think he'll be appointed and I haven't forgotten how badly he treated junior doctors during their dispute.
