Good, why has it taken this long.

How awful for his wife and children !! Public humility then your 15 year marriage being broken up !! What a horrible pair of cheating fools, other woman is just as bad!! If they had fallen in love with each other they should have done the decent thing and ended their marriages!!

furstivetreats · 26/06/2021 19:14

@Tedisateddybear

I've got no time for any of this bunch and I think Hancock has been a complete idiot to have done this, and to have got caught, not to mention the fiasco of the last 15 months.

But I also can't stand the way that so many others have also done similar, or worse, and yet they've just brushed everything under the carpet and carried on regardless.

Can't wait for Boris to be toppled.

I agree with this, and those who've mentioned Cummings' hand in all this.
lavenderlou · 26/06/2021 19:15

Edwina Currie and John Major were at least both senior politicians. Hancock was having an affair with one of his own ministerial aides who also happened to be a long-standing friend that he appointed to the position and was paid with taxpayers' money.

Chickpeasorchips · 26/06/2021 19:15

That it was The Sun wot did it, makes me wonder whether they are starting to change their tune on this bunch of muppets and will not be so supportive of their ineptness in future

More likely they just decided it was time for Hancock to go. I did read he was wanting to be cautious about easing lockdown restrictions and that was different to what the PM wanted (can't say if that's true obviously but I can imagine it) It could be that Murdoch wants lockdown to end, who knows

Badbadbunny · 26/06/2021 19:15

How has he managed to keep his job after 15+ months of incompetence yet he can't survive something that is pretty irrelevant, i.e. an affair. It just shows the politicians really aren't fit to govern anymore. We need a complete reform/rethink of MPs and government.

vaccinesforall · 26/06/2021 19:17

I doubt this is the worst his poor children have had to face, given the excess deaths, dodgy contracts etc.

As I said, Hancock has been given a golden ticket to be able to resign for a reason other than the excess deaths, care homes, contracts etc.

Rosehip10 · 26/06/2021 19:17

@MagicSummer Because that wasn't revealed until years after John Major was PM maybe?

HalzTangz · 26/06/2021 19:17

@DareIask

I'm no fan but let's face it, if everyone who had broken a rule or had a bit on the side was sacked there wouldn't be many left working.

I don't like the way he was spied on and exposed either. That wouldn't be tolerated in the wider working world.

What an idiot though

This. He's guilty of an affair, he isn't guilty of not doing his job. He shouldn't need to resign or be sacked
MercyBooth · 26/06/2021 19:17

The point is he stood at the podium at the press conferences putting the blame on the public with comments like "dont blow it now" Personally he is one of those I felt psychologically abused by.

Backhills · 26/06/2021 19:17

Good for him. I don't think this was how it was supposed to play out. This story was supposed to distract us from things that actually matter for weeks.

BlueSurfer · 26/06/2021 19:18

In all honesty, who can replace him who also hasn’t broken the guidance and doesn’t have their own compromising private life to keep hidden?

I also wonder what this is distracting us from and who is behind this. Cummings would be my best guess even though he managed to break his guidance and keep his job.

No wonder this country has done so badly in this pandemic.

vaccinesforall · 26/06/2021 19:19

I very much hope he still faces investigation (proper independent investigation) for the dodgy contracts, wasted billions of pounds, hundreds of thousand of unnecessary deaths and that these define him when people look back in history, not breaching social distancing Hmm

MercyBooth · 26/06/2021 19:20

@HalzTangz He kept telling the public not to hug relatives while he was doing that.

Loudestcat14 · 26/06/2021 19:21

Sunday Times is reporting now that when he heard the affair was about to be exposed on Thursday night (in Fri's paper) he told his wife the marriage was over and apparently him and the OW are planning to set up home together. I wish his DW was on MN so we could tell her to get hold of his financials and get her ducks in a row!

And yes, it's fucking awful for his kids. The oldest, a DD, is 14. Can you imagine what it must be like for her at school right now. Poor kid.

Bagamoyo1 · 26/06/2021 19:21

Why can’t people understand it’s not because he’s having an affair as such. Politicians have always had affairs, it’s nothing new, and whilst it’s not good, it isn’t usually relevant in the context of their jobs.
But this is different. He has stood and preached about distancing. He has made rules that have kept people from their loved ones. He has made us all feel that it’s our duty to follow the rules, so we don’t all die or kill off our relatives. And meanwhile, he breaks the rules.

And that’s before you even consider why this particular woman was given that particular job....

adeleh · 26/06/2021 19:22

He’s done far worse than have a bit on the side, not least in offering contracts to the brother of his bit on the side. Of course he should go. He was right to resign.

Mistlewoeandwhine · 26/06/2021 19:22

Good.

BlueSurfer · 26/06/2021 19:22

Having read Johnson’ response to the resignation letter, I’m pretty sure Hancock will be back in a fairly senior role before too long.

jgw1 · 26/06/2021 19:23

I so hope you’re right.

One can dream.
Chickpeasorchips · 26/06/2021 19:23

Questions were raised about why he appointed her in the first place, her brother getting a big contract, allegations about him using personal email address for government business, as well as him potentially breaking his own guidelines. How could he have done his job with all of this going on.

Blossomtoes · 26/06/2021 19:24

Not if his constituency party deselects him which looks very likely.
Loudestcat14 · 26/06/2021 19:24

Blossomtoes Nah, Murdoch will never turn on the Tories. He just wants Gove as PM so if Gove gets Health Sec now, as is being widely speculated, it's one foot closer to No 10 for the creepy gimp.

Chickpeasorchips · 26/06/2021 19:24

And yes, it's fucking awful for his kids. The oldest, a DD, is 14. Can you imagine what it must be like for her at school right now. Poor kid.

Terribly sad. The poor wife and children- and her husband and children Sad

JustLyra · 26/06/2021 19:26

It's easy to resign when you know a) you still have a job and b) you know that, like Gavin Williamson and Priti Patel, you'll likely be back quickly.

If he hadn't commented on the police potentially fining Neil Ferguson and Catherine Calderwood for their breaches (Ferguson in particular) I think he might have escaped resigning, but there's no way he could survive doing something he basically called for someone else to face legal action over.

MrsHuntGeneNotJeremyObviously · 26/06/2021 19:26

The silence from his colleagues had been very telling. Some things really are indefensible. If resigning is all that happens to him, he'll have got off lightly - the Sunday papers are probably looking into all his dealings as we speak.

What is wrong with people though? 6 kids, 2 marriages and possibly 2 careers ruined for the sake of a sleazy affair.
