Where in West Yorkshire is posh?

Moving to this area but have a fairly wide area to choose from. We need to have a clear run in the mornings to Sheffield for work so want to avoid the A1 (which is why North Yorkshire is out) so it looks like the M1 South and possibly the M62 is best. Work journey is currently 45 minutes and I don't want it longer. South yorks is out too because we have family in Wakefield.

Want a nice smallish village with lots of countryside, but not too far out in the sticks. Good senior school and nice standard of living. Leeds is too big and road networks too busy in the mornings.

We have £800K + available for the house. Thanks x

@EShellstrop

Harrogate, Ripon and Thirsk are all nice, tho check out flood risks if looking at houses in and around Thirsk.
They’re all in North Yorkshire though (she wants WEST Yorkshire) AND would use the A1 to get to Sheffield (she wants to AVOID using the A1).

It would help if you read the op properly.

@chipsarnie

Bradford has some lovely villages. Holmewood or Ravenscliffe. I'd also look at Braithwaite in Keighley - especially Coronation Way.
Another Bradford resident here, & I second this, although don't forget Buttershaw village, although may be a bit too posh, it's full of people in tweed jackets eating caviar for lunch Grin
AllTheUsernamesAreAlreadyTaken · 19/06/2021 13:02

Have you looked at North Derbyshire?
Dronfield is an easy commute to Sheffield, has a villagey feel and outstanding schools. It has a train station with really good links too.
Or you could go further out to Bakewell, Baslow,

jaundicedoutlook · 19/06/2021 13:06

Literally nowhere.

But for your criteria you might try Ripponden and some of the other nearby villages.

BarbaraofSeville · 19/06/2021 13:09

Three bed manor house £775k.

Very desirable village just outside Wakefield.

IntoAir · 19/06/2021 13:10

Dewsbury

Oh no @SunshineSum I think Bradford is posher than Dewsbury.

Emilyontmoor · 19/06/2021 13:12

Mum taught in Ravenscliffe. Every night she came home with tales of the elite 😥

However if you want so posh your MP is a notorious right wing misogynist you could try Shipley 😂

Viggohytten · 19/06/2021 13:12

So much sneeriness from posters tripping over themselves to mock the OP (who asked a simple question).

What’s wrong with what they asked? Really? 🤷‍♀️

EShellstrop · 19/06/2021 13:13

Cheers @Moooooooooooooooooo thanks for taking the time

Emilyontmoor · 19/06/2021 13:13

Barbara It’s mainly the servants quarters, not posh enough!

Emilyontmoor · 19/06/2021 13:15

Viggo In Yorkshire there is no greater crime than to be “up yourself”.

Frazzled2207 · 19/06/2021 13:16

If you need to be near sheffield I’d start looking at the villages to the west of Sheffield. Is lovely round there.!

GrumpyTerrier · 19/06/2021 13:18

Marsden and Slaithwaite are nice-- I wouldnt say posh although there are some stunning country houses. Nice bars and restuarants, not much crime. Sheep wander round. Both villages in the middle of stunning countryside, between Manchester and Huddersfield and within easy reach of Leeds.

This. The OP has basically said she doesn't consider most of Yorkshire to be good enough for her. Maybe she doesn't deserve to live here?
Wombats12 · 19/06/2021 13:19

Blimey, OP has managed to alienate large chunks of the North without having even moved yet...

Viggohytten · 19/06/2021 13:20

But she wasn’t rude. She said she wanted 'posh'. Clear enough meaning.
Seeing the replies I can see why 🤷‍♀️

JosephineDeBeauharnais · 19/06/2021 13:22

@BarbaraofSeville

Ilkley is near the M62 like Luton Airport is near London.

But maybe the OP would consider the morning commute to Sheffield worth it for the privilege of living somewhere appropriately naice. It does have a Booths after all.

Booths has gone downhill fast I’m afraid. Everyone has migrated to Waitrose in Otley. And anyway, nobody in their right mind would commute daily from Ilkley to Sheffield by car.
PickAChew · 19/06/2021 13:26

Did all the terrifying Northerners scare you off, @worktrip?

Emilyontmoor · 19/06/2021 13:26

Clear enough meaning Yes it is very clear to most of us that OP is a snob…..

Really?!
Somethingvague · 19/06/2021 13:31

I moved to Leeds from London as a child. I constantly got comments and sneers for being 'posh' just because of my accent (we weren't actually posh, just southern). This thread brings it all back.

Moooooooooooooooooo · 19/06/2021 13:34

Cheers *@Moooooooooooooooooo* thanks for taking the time
Oh, you’re welcome Smile
Abouttime · 19/06/2021 13:36

Sandal or Newmillerdam are South Wakefield or Boston Spa area in Leeds would fit IMO.

BarbaraofSeville · 19/06/2021 13:36

@Somethingvague, you think people from Leeds don't get their accents mocked in London?

I've had people in southern England ask if we have shops, roads or electricity in Yorkshire with no sense of irony whatsoever.
