Anyone else seen the news?? Another baby on the way, relationship on the rocks, or good old fashioned age gap love?

Is it still a thing in upper class circles that women don't expect their husbands to be faithful? Or is that Jilly Cooper stuff.

RickiTarr · 29/05/2021 21:09

@LordEdgwareDies

In the Poirot episode “Lord Edgware Dies,” the blonde has to kill her husband instead of divorce him so she can marry her new Catholic beau in Westminster Cathedral.
Shock I hope someone has checked in on Allegra & Marina and found them well.

Max Hastings...

"Johnson would not recognise truth, whether about his private or political life, if confronted by it in an identity parade. In a commonplace book the other day, I came across an observation made in 1750 by a contemporary savant, Bishop Berkeley: “It is impossible that a man who is false to his friends and neighbours should be true to the public.” Almost the only people who think Johnson a nice guy are those who do not know him."

Oh look, a dead cat!

Cactusali · 29/05/2021 21:10

A serial adulterer and two well-documents abortions. The Catholic Church should be ashamed.

nancy75 · 29/05/2021 21:10

If I was married to Boris Johnson I’d be quite happy for him to be unfaithful, in fact I’d be bloody grateful & hope the mistress could wear him out

Bluntness100 · 29/05/2021 21:12

Honestly, does it matter! They got married. I’m sure they think they are in love and t’s the right thing to do, doesn’t everyone who marries? Past that why would anyone else care?

itsgettingwierd · 29/05/2021 21:13

Apparently they've been planning it for 6 months.

Obviously he's had plenty of spare time Hmm

vera99 · 29/05/2021 21:13

Sorry, Clav he only likes em young... and new but don't stop lighting those candles. Grin

Notonthestairs · 29/05/2021 21:13

I'll give them credit - it's a decent diversion from current news.

3/4 days of coverage not much more.

Neither.of them seem particularly pleasant - who doesn't know and/or doesn't ask who paid £200k decorating their flat for them?

Ostara212 · 29/05/2021 21:14
@Ostara212 You are thinking of Westminster abbey which is Anglican (and indeed a royal peculiar). BoJo married in Westminster cathedral (Roman Catholic).
Thank you. I'm now not sure which one I visited on a school trip 😳

midsomermurderess · 29/05/2021 21:14

I saw something on Twitter but I thought it was a joke.

RickiTarr · 29/05/2021 21:15

Good point re. wedding cert. The settlement clearly wasn't to her satisfaction, can't imagine she'd have married the old wart that is Rupert Murdoch otherwise

I think it fell closer to “palimony” levels than a divorce settlement but still more than if she had been upfront about the Bali ceremony being non-binding. (She claimed that she thought “their staff” had the paperwork - for two decades straight, presumably Smile.)

Apparently Jagger truly hates Murdoch, so maybe there were a couple of satisfactions for her in transacting that marriage. Grin

Gladimnotcampinginthisweather · 29/05/2021 21:16

Downing Street have declined to comment on reports that Boris and Carrie got married, according to BBC.

DrCoconut · 29/05/2021 21:17

Vacancy for prime minister's mistress. Immediate start available. Good money and perks.

Mammyloveswine · 29/05/2021 21:18

Could they have had a civil marriage ceremony and then a blessing?

I find it hard to believe given his history and 2 ex wives that Boris would've been permitted a catholic wedding!!!!

doubleshotespresso · 29/05/2021 21:20
@doubleshotespresso if we all stopped buying into superstition about “proper wedding[s]”, it wouldn’t matter. A religious service and signing of the register barely differs from a quick civil service and a blessing.
I suppose it really depends on the individual. Religion/marriage is a very personal thing isn't it?
I meant to many, a blessing and /or a registry office just doesn't feel like the complete thing. For me personally, my marriage would not feel "proper" unless it was in a Catholic church. It differs greatly to me and many others, who through no fault of their own were not permitted to remarry in their chosen place which causes many great sadness and a sense of incompleteness in regards to their marriage.
Let's see what actually gets reported as being fact as I cannot quite believe this would have been allowed , not just because I detest the man and all he stands for, but for the sheer inequality if it is the case. Who knows? I am sure it will all come out in the wash (Or Daily Mail!)

mobear · 29/05/2021 21:21

She needed some good press. It will backfire.

Unsure33 · 29/05/2021 21:22

Stop spreading untruths . His wife found she had cancer after they split .

What a thread if bitchy comments .

They had 30 people , kept the press away and if you are worried about him marrying in church blame the people who you reckon gave him false permission .

vera99 · 29/05/2021 21:22

Do I smell the whiff of ultimatums and gunshot from Carrie Antoinette? With the wedding list, he can get the flat refurbished to her tastes at last.

Unsure33 · 29/05/2021 21:23

@midsomermurderess

Why a joke ? Mumsnet are always recommending marriage to get security.

TeacupDrama · 29/05/2021 21:23

Even prince Charles had to make do with a blessing because Camilla was a divorcee ( at the time of the wedding he was technically a widower) and the church of England are a bit easier on divorce than catholic church

motogogo · 29/05/2021 21:24

Telegraph are reporting it. Wasn't aware Catholic Churches allowed divorcees to marry?

Neotraditional · 29/05/2021 21:24

Hi Carrie! Congratulations 🎉
BishopBrennansArse · 29/05/2021 21:25

She's got him by the nut nuts now, then...
