Anyone else seen the news?? Another baby on the way, relationship on the rocks, or good old fashioned age gap love?

@Serpenta you need to see someone. Grin

Rosehip10 · 29/05/2021 20:55

@Ostara212 You are thinking of Westminster abbey which is Anglican (and indeed a royal peculiar). BoJo married in Westminster cathedral (Roman Catholic).

Nahhh · 29/05/2021 20:55

If this is true I think there would rightly be huge outcry, the hypocrisy is blinding.... the rules are very clear and obstruct so many from a proper marriage regardless of the circumstances of their previous split

Yes indeed. I can’t remarry in the church despite the fact my first marriage ended following severe physical, sexual and emotional abuse and him then having an affair and leaving me.

JinglingHellsBells · 29/05/2021 20:57

The Catholic church has no morals at all. They are the definition of hypocrisy.

Just look at their record of abuse.

I am sure they were paid a tidy sum for this.

newnortherner111 · 29/05/2021 20:57

I understand that given Covid 19 restrictions it had to be a small wedding. However, a pity that no-one was able to be there and object on one of a number of grounds I can think of.

The July 2022 celebration may be a larger gathering so 'save the date' may not just have been to put people off the scent. Though I'd hope by then Mr Johnson is facing criminal charges as he should be.

I still maintain the dog Dilyn will be part of Carrie's life for longer.

Flowers

It's fucked up that the rules don't apply to the wealthy and connected. Only to us plebs.

RickiTarr · 29/05/2021 20:57

Jerry Hall was under the impression their Buddhist beach ceremony was legally binding. Turns out it wasn't.

Jerry Hall isn’t so dumb that she didn’t notice the absence of a marriage certificate. Her testimony on that point was hilarious. He pretended to marry her. She pretended to be fooled. Twenty years later it was leverage in a settlement. Clever woman, really.

alwayswrighty · 29/05/2021 20:58

My bil and sil got married in a Catholic church after having their first marriages annulled by the pope (divorced, not dead)

MimiDaisy11 · 29/05/2021 20:59

Do catholic churches normally refuse marriages by adulters or those previously married? I know traditionally that was the way but I thought now they'd have eased up.

Anyway, I'm not surprised. In most things in life power and money can by pass most things.

osbertthesyrianhamster · 29/05/2021 20:59

What a joke.

JinglingHellsBells · 29/05/2021 21:00

You know I don't think Carrie will care if he strays as long as he pays for the son and her marriage gives her a leg up in her career and a place in history as wife No 3.

She's not in it for the long haul.

RickiTarr · 29/05/2021 21:00

@doubleshotespresso if we all stopped buying into superstition about “proper wedding[s]”, it wouldn’t matter. A religious service and signing of the register barely differs from a quick civil service and a blessing.

donquixotedelamancha · 29/05/2021 21:00

LMAO. He really has got married just to divert the headlines from the number of people who died unnecessarily. It's so mental I almost admire it.

Christ, if he put half as much effort into running the country as he does into hiding his fuck ups he be a competent PM.

She'd be a fool to believe he'd ever be faithful.

Good point re. wedding cert. The settlement clearly wasn't to her satisfaction, can't imagine she'd have married the old wart that is Rupert Murdoch otherwise Envy
Tubbs99 · 29/05/2021 21:01

@Serpenta

I'm trying to imagine a wedding night with Boris Johnson. If I were the 'lucky' bride I'd be knocking back the brandies whilst standing at the altar.

I give it 6 months.

Rosehip10 · 29/05/2021 21:02

@MimiDaisy11 Depends how much you can contribute to "Catholic Charities"

userxx · 29/05/2021 21:03

@TurquoiseLemur His wife had cancer and he left her? Fucking brutal.

LemonRoses · 29/05/2021 21:03

I assume it was a blessing of a civil marriage. Even then it’s terribly modern for the church that is the National centre of Catholicism. Maybe Papal dispensation, but I imagine not. Certainly Vincent Nichols has been highly critical of government cuts to overseas aid. He’s very socialist and moderate (for a Cardinal) in his moral compass.

I also assume it’s because it means she can’t be required to testify against him.

BlatantlyNameChanged · 29/05/2021 21:04

She'd be a fool to believe he'd ever be faithful.

Weren't there rumours about him allegedly nobbing a violinist last year? I'm sure they surfaced right before the 'happy families in Scotland' photos were released last summer.

LordEdgwareDies · 29/05/2021 21:07

In the Poirot episode “Lord Edgware Dies,” the blonde has to kill her husband instead of divorce him so she can marry her new Catholic beau in Westminster Cathedral.

Samcro · 29/05/2021 21:07

If its true, its created a vacancy.

DonkeysNotDisney · 29/05/2021 21:07

@TatoAndBeans

Marital privilege means you cannot be compelled to testify against your spouse. What were/are they worried about being charged with?
I'm not sure how no-one else has mentioned this

She not only had an affair with a married man, she had an affair with a married man who left his wife when she was suffering from cancer.

Which is not true.
Marina Wheeler was diagnosed with cancer in May 2019 - having separated from Boris Johnson in the summer of 2018. In fact Marina Wheeler had already obtained a decree nisi when she was diagnosed with cancer.
