Egg and Chips

Our American friend won't believe egg and chips is a meal (egg, chips and beans, to be precise).

It got me wondering, is this a meal specific to my location (the north west of England), or is it enjoyed all over the U.K.?

Pint of prawns Grin

@ElderMillennial

I've never had eggs, chips and beans and it doesn't seem like a meal to me but I suppose it is because sausage, chips and beans or fish, chips and beans is and not every meal has to have meat in it...
Egg, chips and beans doesn't have meat in it.

Ham egg and chips here

adeleh · 24/05/2021 20:17

South west here. I love it on a Friday night with toast and a mug of tea. Real comfort food when you feel depleted and tired.

Tell them to waych Morse. It was Lewis’s favourite meal.

partyatthepalace · 24/05/2021 20:18

In the West we have ham, eggs and chips - which is infinitely superior to beans 🐷🏆

GlitterBombing · 24/05/2021 20:18

I'm in the north too OP. It was a staple when growing up.

Still have it now but I use frozen chips, rather than home made (although I do buy the "posh" ones 😁). It's a comfort food for me.

MangosteenSoda · 24/05/2021 20:19

I’m also NW, but I don’t eat eggs with potatoes, beans with potatoes or eggs with beans. So definitely no egg, chips and beans for me. All fine individually mind.

I don’t admit any of this in real life. I’d be deported Grin

Eggs, chicken and chips here!

ApricotCrush · 24/05/2021 20:33

Egg, chips and beans with tomato ketchup is my favourite meal. I'm in the Midlands.

Minniem2020 · 24/05/2021 20:33

Ham, egg, chips and beans, but they have to be real chip pan chips. None of this oven chip rubbish.

Toddlerteaplease · 24/05/2021 20:34

Definitely good if the Gods.

Probablier · 24/05/2021 20:35

I'm in Ireland and egg chips and beans is one of our fave meat free meals Smile

DinosApple · 24/05/2021 20:37

We had egg, chips and peas for tea tonight. Suffolk. Two eggs for me, chips dipped into the yolk. Mmm.

It was a toss up between beans and peas tbf, but DD2 isn't keen on beans, whereas everyone eats peas.

My absolute favourite from the chip shop is chips and mushy peas, with a fried egg or two added at home. With loads of salt and pepper.

MaudesMum · 24/05/2021 20:37

Gammon, egg and chips is one of the all time pub classic meals.

Disfordarkchocolate · 24/05/2021 20:44

NE, some days this is the perfect meal.

PaperMonster · 24/05/2021 20:44

Mmmmm, North West here - used to love egg and chips!

CanIBeACurlyGirl · 24/05/2021 20:44

Gammon, egg and chips with thick, really thick baked beans.

Betterthanexpected · 24/05/2021 20:45

I saw the original Shirely Valentine stage production - she cooked the chips and egg on stage, I was sat behind the cooker, Bliss

But Joe Valentine committed a cardinal sin which you have repeated. It’s egg and chips. Never, ever chips and egg Grin

LadyEloise · 24/05/2021 20:46

Poached egg, chips and peas.
Delicious.
My Mum used to make it and now I carry on the tradition, though I use oven chips Blush and Mum uses her own hand peeled and cut chips in her deep fat fryer.

DonttouchthatLarry · 24/05/2021 20:52

@EverythingsComingUpRoses

Egg and homemade chips with cheap white bread and butter

Beans are not a part of this meal

Absolutely agree with this!
gurglebelly · 24/05/2021 20:54

In Bucks and that is an easy dinner here

Idontknowanymore05 · 24/05/2021 20:55
