Egg and Chips

Our American friend won't believe egg and chips is a meal (egg, chips and beans, to be precise).

It got me wondering, is this a meal specific to my location (the north west of England), or is it enjoyed all over the U.K.?

I can confirm yorkshirepeach on TikTok isn't the friend in our group of zoom drinkers (I've just asked my friend if she is on Tik Tok and she claims not).

As I said below, we were having zoom drinks and started talking about what we would get for a takeaway if we were actually at the pub. Strange (to foreigners) food is a common topic as our group includes a colleague from HK, as well as the US.

(Along with our strange habits, strange sports, strange ways of furnishing our houses, strange schools etc).

Love egg and chips. One of my colleagues calls it 'chips and egg' and it make me cringe

Homemade chips, egg and tinned tomatoes with brown sauce and buttered bread is my absolute favourite of all time (Manchester).

Egg and chips are half a meal. Would need meat or fish with it too. Plus the beans or peas.

Ham, egg and chips is food of the gods. Not with beans though.

I have pet ducks and chickens. Egg and chips (with peas) is a meal I pretty much always have available when I haven't been to the supermarket.

From Ireland originally, then Gloucs, now Norfolk, I agree! Absolutely heavenly meal after a long day. I'd have it over a Sunday dinner tbh. (please don't shoot me I love roasts too)

as a kid, i'd go to harvester with my uncle, and get gammon, egg and chips, it was my favourite meal! it also used to come with pineapple slices though ??? awkward as i'm allergic to pineapple!

University cannon fodder fuel back in the day. Very retro but may commission one for nostalgia. Yorkshire brew to accompany. May be upgrade to an all day full English as good for fortitude in these pandemic times.

I'm I'm durham north east and we love egg chips and beans with a slice of buttered bread , also chips gammon and beans , when I was younger I lived in the lake district all my school mates in penrith use to eat chips cheese and gravy when we went out for our dinner , I didnt try it myself thought it was abit odd

Down here in london and south east we’ve always said ham, egg and chips, seemed to be a staple when I was younger. Don’t eat it now though.
