We had those dining chairs when I was a kid in the 70s ❤️

MFI I would guess!

If you opened this thread and thought the OP was being nasty then you need to give your head a wobble and stop looking for things to be offended about.

There was a heart in the post so how could that be taken badly?

user1495884211 · 21/05/2021 17:07

Wow, it's like stepping back in time. I had to rack my brains to work out where I recognised the dining chairs from - my grandparents had them and they passed away nearly 20 years ago. It does feel sad that that is someone's whole life and someone is going to buy it up as a doer-upper and rip it all out and paint it greige. Sad

merryhouse · 21/05/2021 17:09

Very much "if it ain't broke, don't fix it", aren't they?

We had very similar kitchen unit doors, just in orange. Nowhere near as well looked after, mind Grin

Hallyup6 · 21/05/2021 17:10

This isn't a mocking thread, the op has clearly put a love heart in the first post. It's nostalgic and it certainly brought back some memories for me. I think it's lovely. Nice house, well cared for, nothing wrong with it at all.

Looksabitbig · 21/05/2021 17:12

I am sensitive as am selling a parental home at the moment. Estate agents can see numbers of right move views and it must mess with their heads why one suddenly gets loads of views! (And no viewings).

Dutchesss · 21/05/2021 17:25

I had those radiator clothes hangers as a child and I remember picking the white bits off too Grin
I could do with something like that now to manage the children's floordrobes.

Theunamedcat · 21/05/2021 17:28

@ShowOfHands

Assuming this is what a pp meant by penguin tiles!
My parents had these tiles in avocado to match the avocado bathroom suite
EggysMom · 21/05/2021 17:35

My parents had those dining chairs, in the same cream-with-brown-threads style; they also had the round version of the matching dining table. The table went many years ago but the chairs stayed (with a new table) until recently, I think they got recovered at least twice if not three times.

NewMatress · 21/05/2021 17:39

That's a beautifully preserved bit of history. There are things there I wouldn't change.

However, I'm generally sceptical of these posts where an OP apparently ridicules a perfectly nice house. I'm sure there's a connection to the sale and it's all done for clicks

ReallyBloodyAnnoying · 21/05/2021 17:41

I keep going back and looking at those chairs. Takes me right back to being a kid with my lovely dad ❤️

Perhaps I should’ve said that in my original post.

I certainly didn’t mean to cause offence.

I didn’t know estate agents see the number of views. Sorry to disappoint them but it’s the chairs I’m looking at, not the bungalow.

HUCKMUCK · 21/05/2021 17:44

Wouldn't it be lovely if someone bought it and did it up without getting rid of the lovely nostalgic features. I really like the kitchen and the front garden with a drive is also lovely.

Bungalows round here go for massive amounts and are really highly in demand.

SoupDragon · 21/05/2021 17:52

So many things I remember from my childhood. The doorbell with the two long chimes, the barometer, the horse head with "Arab man" on the wall...

Gladimnotcampinginthisweather · 21/05/2021 17:55

I love it. It is so similar to my in law's bungalow which we had to sell. It is comforting in a grandparent kind of a way. I can almost smell the special smell.

SoupDragon · 21/05/2021 17:55

@Tullyjune

I need someone to point out the penguins on the tile. I have no clue what you’re all on about?!

My GPs had those tiles. I spent lots of time in the bath making pictures on the wall with soap suds and I never saw a penguin Sad

Gladimnotcampinginthisweather · 21/05/2021 18:02

I thought they were called chicken vein. We had them in avocado when we bought our last house, to match the avocado bathroom suite (and carpet!) My in laws had them in lemon to match a lemon suite.

GreyhoundG1rl · 21/05/2021 18:06

That penguin is just a penguin randomly drawn on, it isn't joining the dots that I can see?

GreyhoundG1rl · 21/05/2021 18:07

I won't nitpick and say it isn't upside down either 😂

SoupDragon · 21/05/2021 18:09

No, it's following the lines on the tile.
KidneyBeans · 21/05/2021 18:09

@Movinghouseatlast

Why sneer at this house? There is nothing outlandish or odd about it. It is immaculately clean and tidy, well kept and obviously someone was very proud of it.

I don't think you 'get' what the Rightmove threads are about really.

Where did the aOp sneer @Movinghouseatlast ? Confused
NautaOcts · 21/05/2021 18:09

Not nasty!
It’s fascinating as is a sort of time warp.
I remember those sorts of chairs, quite comfortable if a little scratchy.
It all looks in great condition and I actually really like the look of the kitchen units!

sweetkitty · 21/05/2021 18:11

There’s a typical 80s house at our local museum type place now (which makes me feel old) but I love it. VHS recorder, HI-FI with records, Eternal-Beau crockery. I think this house should be persevered it’s part of our heritage too, reminds me of my grandparents house too. I wonder in the future will they have a 2020s grey house with glittery writing on the walls and our grandchildren will feel the same nostalgia?

AfternoonToffee · 21/05/2021 18:12

You either see the penguins or you don't. However upside down penguin tiles sound a lot more appealing than chicken vein tiles.

The magic of tiles is that tilers can put them in any way round they chose.

We also had those chairs in a brown stripe. They are forever referred to as “big bottom chairs”. As a child they seemed huge and at children’s parties you could fit two to a chair.
