We had those dining chairs when I was a kid in the 70s ❤️

MFI I would guess!

Wow some people really are snowflakes.

Can't say I thought it was mockery in any way shape or form. People get far too easily offended nowadays

Silvercatowner · 21/05/2021 19:44

Houses like this make me feel quite sad that they lived with such old furniture/carpets. Makes me wonder if they chose to live like that or if they couldn't afford to upgrade

Alternatively, perhaps the residents weren't shallow and materialistic and were fine with what they had??

bellabride · 21/05/2021 20:03

Nasty thread.

Namechangeforthis88 · 21/05/2021 20:11

Very similar to the bungalow we've bought! Probate, but the previous owner was apparently late 90's and we think had lived there for at least 50 years. Delay to move while family do final visits for sentimental reasons, so seems safe to say there are many happy memories.

Cocolapew · 21/05/2021 20:11

How is it nasty?

flaminjo · 21/05/2021 20:12

That place looks like a film set

flaminjo · 21/05/2021 20:15

I really don't find this post offensive or
Piss taking

It's fascinating to see. There can't be many places left like this. Very well looked after and pristine yet 40 years out of date

We had a fireplace like that when I was a kid

Loving the pampas grass too

Shmithecat2 · 21/05/2021 20:15

@DontCallMeBaby

Both my pairs of grandparents had the ’penguin’ tiles. Council house in the West Midlands vs a cottage in N Wales, very different houses and very different people, but the same bathroom tiles ❤️
They were in my nan's SE London maisonette too 😊
Shmithecat2 · 21/05/2021 20:17

PS OP, this is a lovely thread. Lots of professionally offended people and not a little projection from some PP...

I love the kitchen. Is try and save/repurpose it.

Cherrysoup · 21/05/2021 20:19

I admit I don’t know Stratford-upon-Avon, but for not London, that strikes me as really expensive. Is it a really expensive place to live?

Shmithecat2 · 21/05/2021 20:23

Yes, the surrounding villages can be really expensive. My DM used to live in Wilmcote, a few miles from this property.
Looksabitbig · 21/05/2021 20:24

@DontDrinkDontSmokeWhatDoIDo

Such a well kept house. The people / person who lived there obviously loved it.

I don't think my IKEA furniture will be around and in as good Nick in 40 years.

(OP - usually the 'another Rightmove one' title is to look at a shocker, hence the comments).

This. A thread title saying "this house takes me back!" or similar would not sound like an invitation to laugh. I have seen many threads about homes on rightmove and they usually involve an element of this (one with a grave in the garden was more Shock than Grin though)

@Kezzie200 Utility room! Thank you! I knew those kitchen units looked familiar as well. They must have been in the kitchen of the house I lived in in the 80s when we moved in as now I remember them being in our utility room. I also remember my parents getting a new kitchen so they must have put some of the old units in the utility. Ours were orange though.

I also remember those penguin tiles but can't remember where from, it will probably come back to me in the middle of the night!

Violinist64 · 21/05/2021 20:29

It is a lovely look back in time. It looks as if it was last updated around fifty years ago and suited its owners perfectly. At a guess, I would say that this house belonged to an elderly, widowed man, who had left everything as it had always been.

HarrisMcCoo · 21/05/2021 20:31

DH's aunt had pots of cash, so many different pensions but chose to live that way. The kitchen was serviceable as far as she was concerned.
GoldenLabbie · 21/05/2021 20:31

My Nana who died in 2014 had those kitchen cupboards but in pale blue! It would seem such a shame to rip that kitchen out. What’s to say that the 70’s won’t come back into fashion again?

refusetobeasheep · 21/05/2021 20:33

the flying birds and doorbell chimes SO remind me of my grandma, loved seeing this!

blue1000 · 21/05/2021 20:34

My parents have penguin tiles in their bathroom, along with their pine ceiling and corner bath. I hope they never change it!

goingtotown · 21/05/2021 20:36

A sad house.

GreyhoundG1rl · 21/05/2021 20:36

@goingtotown

A sad house.
Why's that?
Kezzie200 · 21/05/2021 20:36

user1495884211

Yes ours are orange as well!

Chloemol · 21/05/2021 20:47

I normally scroll past these threads unless it’s ones the ops have asked for help on

These mocking ones are nasty, it’s a form of bullying. How do you think family members would feel if they saw the comments?

It’s been someone’s home for 60 years,

Whilst, surprising sone comments are nice, nostalgia etc. Sone are plain nasty and shame on you

Which comments are nasty? I haven't seen anyone mocking either.

Summerfun54321 · 21/05/2021 20:52

Really good example of how if you look after your things well, they really do last!
