We had those dining chairs when I was a kid in the 70s ❤️

MFI I would guess!

A big u-turn from you OP.

A big u turn from the affectionate comment about the chairs in her first post...?

NakedBanana · 23/05/2021 09:20

a big u turn

FFS she had a heart in her OP, just have the good grace to admit you're wrong and apologise. Like a PP did.

NerrSnerr · 23/05/2021 09:35

@jbaez A big u turn from what? It is another Rightmove thread. The OP's tone is obvious in her first post, could you really not get that she wasn't being snarky?

Notavegan · 23/05/2021 09:44

I hope the people who buy it share the love if the 70s and keep the kitchen how it is.
Like a step back in time, our local museum has a similar property.

JBaez · 23/05/2021 09:44

I was responding to and quoted this comment (which I agree with):

The thread title - ‘Another Rightmove one’ -suggests to anyone who looks at MN regularly that it’s going to be another thread with a house of horrors. That’s the issue.

NerrSnerr · 23/05/2021 09:54

@JBaez but most people have the intelligence to click on the thread, read the OP and be able to assess the tone of the thread from there.

Getyourarseofffthequattro · 23/05/2021 09:58

It's clear that op was just reminiscing.

I actually love houses like this. You can tell it's been so loved. I would keep that kitchen and especially the floor.

JBaez · 23/05/2021 10:03

Having RTT You’ll know that there are plenty of posters early on implying that they don’t like the tone of the thread.

I don’t believe this was intended at first to a ‘nice’ post reminiscing about the past. Others do and everyone has responded accordingly.

IrmaFayLear · 23/05/2021 10:08

I agree the post didn’t come across very well. I’m sure in 40+ years’ time people will be roaring with laughter at our decoration.

Also I admire longevity of furniture. I bet 70s furniture was a lot better quality than the stuff now.

GlassBoxSpectacular · 23/05/2021 10:08

@AdditionalCharacter

Houses like this make me feel quite sad that they lived with such old furniture/carpets. Makes me wonder if they chose to live like that or if they couldn't afford to upgrade.
Maybe they had no interest in buying 'new' stuff just for the sake of it and didn't give a shit what other people thought?
MrsBarnstable · 23/05/2021 10:20

I love the kitchen too
The decor brings back so many lovely memories, you get the feeling that everything there meant something and was precious

SoupDragon · 23/05/2021 11:20

Hardly "plenty"!

I don’t believe this was intended at first to a ‘nice’ post reminiscing about the past. Others do and everyone has responded accordingly.

Why do you think a heart was included then?

RubyFowler · 23/05/2021 11:27

I agree. To me it shows you don't have to constantly upgrade and modernise interiors to have a perfectly comfortable home with everything you need.
We need to get out of the mindset of always needing to spend on new things, many people can afford it, but many cannot and I'd argue that the planet cannot.

Whenwillitmakesense · 23/05/2021 11:29

I love houses that show peoples personalities rather than all grey.

Also I think it’s better for the environment to use things not throw them away. I have a table & chairs that is now almost 20 years old so probably dated to most people but I love it because of all the meals we have had around it.

I remember having those penguin tiles in our bathroom and I never knew about the penguins!

userxx · 23/05/2021 11:31

So many knickers in a twist over absolutely nothing! Jesus, some people just love an argument. The geometric floor tiles have come full circle, it's a gorgeous house.

JBaez · 23/05/2021 11:33

As I said Soup - ‘I don’t believe this was intended at first to a ‘nice’ post reminiscing about the past. Others do and everyone has responded accordingly.’

IrmaFayLear · 23/05/2021 11:39

A table and chairs 20 years old?!?

I have my gf’s dining room chairs that he bought in the 1920s. Not antiques, just chairs. And a few bits and pieces that my mum and dad bought in the 1940s - utility furniture which was govt approved stuff (cos of war). It is all going strong. But then my house is a mishmash of styles and eras and really wouldn’t pass the “grey” test.

chillibeansauce · 23/05/2021 11:46

That house has a lovely, well kept vibe. Love the kitchen tiles !

longwayoff · 23/05/2021 11:49

That old furniture? It's comfortable which is a main consideration when you're over 65 and if MNers and grandchildren find it hilarious, so what? Aches and pains come to us all.

Gladimnotcampinginthisweather · 23/05/2021 12:04

Our dining table was bought in a sale in January 1985. It's still going strong. Why would we change it? I hope that one day we will go back to buying furniture to last. Much better for the environment.

SoupDragon · 23/05/2021 12:20

Musication · 23/05/2021 13:49

Wow people get offended over everything on here. We bought a house like this almost 10 years ago; very similar decor and was a probate sale. We slowly did it up but I felt a sense of nostalgia when we first moved in reminded me of my grandparents.

JBaez · 23/05/2021 15:07

Soupdragon
OP liked the chairs I guess?
The ‘heart’ you are talking about is a black rectangle on my phone.
You don’t have to agree with me and I don’t have to agree with you.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 23/05/2021 15:11

I have cassette tapes - house is mine by default (see dindng room)

Thats's a well kept, much loved 1970s house. See the wear int he carpet where there used to be a chair at the vanity unit? It's just now starting to crumble a little.

Wonder what they cost in good condition?

MoreCheeseVicar · 23/05/2021 15:27

Talk about a nice thread gone sour, it only takes a few
They've got a tea's maid. I'd love one of those, the house is lovely in my eyes
