That's okay though or is Portugal banned. I get so confused

BogRollBOGOF · 27/06/2021 23:58

@justasking111

Just seen this on news link on FB ...

This is a personal experience from tonight about lateral flow tests and I’m wondering how many people have had similar
Last Friday I received a text from school saying a child in my sons class had tested positive for covid so tonight I did a test on myself and my 3 kids 3 results came back negative and my son who was in the Sam class as the kid come back positive so I’ve recorded the test and informed the school who have immediately shut down his class which is fair enough but after a couple of hours I thought I’ll do another just to make sure seen as though there was 3 negatives and that test couldn’t make it’s mid up it was a test because it refused to soak up the liquid past half way so I then did a third test from a new box and it came back negative I then rang the helpline that deal with the tests and explained what had happened and was advised to have a proper test done so I asked why I could have 1 positive 1 negative and a test that didn’t even know it was a test and his answer was “well the lateral flow tests aren’t that accurate and a PCR test will confirm one of the results”
What’s the point in even doing them when even the advisors say they are pretty much useless and because of it not just my son but a whole class has to isolate and miss school and their parents will have to miss work until the proper results come back which may well be sometime Tuesday or Wednesday, it’s just ridiculous"

Our school's had a flurry of year groups knocked out over the weekend. Social distancing really won't be an issue on the playground! I've just done our first LFT on DS as he was off colour at the end of the week. Not the proper Covid symptoms but in the light of half the school being off (including t'other DS) I'd rather have that negative result on our side.

The real issue is knocking off whole classes/ year groups on a policy where someone has tested and isn't particularly ill. I really hope this policy changes for Sept and doesn't damage a 3rd school year.
We've been lucky that this is our first isolation, some groups are on their second, but generally the school has come off quite lightly.

I love the fact she hasnt forgotten what happened with Christmas and shes pointed out the hypocrisy with regards to the Euros.

Worldgonecrazy · 28/06/2021 06:34

Portugal is amber so requires 10 days isolation on return.

Worldgonecrazy · 28/06/2021 06:39

Love the Joan Collins opinion. Also, as those who are famous but now less influential are more likely to be travelling what is to stop their checks being more onerous just ‘cos ‘Steve the checker is being nosey about someone his granny loves? ‘

WouldBeGood · 28/06/2021 08:38

Oh my god, I love Joan Collins!

Lol at "asked my date of birth, something that rankles me at the best of times".

justasking111 · 28/06/2021 11:07

Joan is wonderful. I loathe piers Morgan but had to watch her on life stories. If you ask my mother her age she's always said waspishly "twenty plenty" to most people 😂😂

BogRollBOGOF · 28/06/2021 11:09

Eurgh, is it still Monday Morning???
At least I hadn't got round to booking swimming. I like spontenaity anyway but having to pre-book life when the next week can be swept away by a late text/ email is a double whammy.

This week I shall mostly be feeling sorry for myself Grin

Re Portugal, Gove didn't isolate either.

I've been digging our positive tests in Conwy county scaring folk. So I checked where folks were getting tested. One place in the whole county which my elderly relation overlooks from his flat. We're talking tumbleweed central on the wasteland next to railway station they're using. 2610 tests though. How then who's stuffing q tips up their noses and where????

justasking111 · 28/06/2021 12:34

If it's schools they're stuffed when summer holidays arrive

I don't understand your post One PCR test lab?

Children are apparently swabbing pieces of fruit etc to get positives and get out of school.

justasking111 · 28/06/2021 12:39

Fruit really, clever little buggers

Taswama · 28/06/2021 13:02

Why would they need to swab anything? To show their parents? Surely the system just asks for a barcode and result, not actual proof of the result.

Guessing parents

I don't know how it works but will most parents take "oh I got a positive" as the truth?

LivinLaVidaLoki · 28/06/2021 13:30

We moved our trip back to see my family - again.

I keep hearing that the govt are bringing in "quarantine free travel for teh vaccinated" and so you never know, I may be able to bring it forward again.

Though the do keep saying "later this summer" so fuck knows when that will be. Apparently its being discussed this week?

BogRollBOGOF · 28/06/2021 14:28

Much past 1st Aug gets pretty useless for time of the holidays left and many parts of the UK returning in the second half of August.
I'm not holding my breath on our travel plans in early August...

The autumnal weather can do one too.

I dedicate this the "no mow May" wave.

It can be odd if it's lovely weather and you can't do much?

Not many threads where you can get a flowing conversation. It's why I love these so much.

I'm just feeling worn today. Child B was home by lunchtime. School sent a text basically saying that for any twinge of anything, isolate and PCR, (we'd already done LFT last night as he was off colour on Fri, but not showing Covidy symptoms). It's crap but in a way it's easier knowing that both are off and the next week is going to be shit rather than worrying that there'll be issues from a random sneeze or clearing the throat. I fail to be terrified of a mutant virus so deadly that it's indistinguishable from hayfever!

I know pollen counts are high anyway, but I do wonder if the hayfever season is being exacerbated by greenery having been left to grow more and by immune systems not being used over the winter.

Interesting noises coming out of Westminster today. This really is totally unsustainable. We already knew that, but the majority seems to agree now.
