Another installment in the saga.

Maybe following up with an Indian, Korma please, but protect the naans...

I recall way back in time on these threads wise heads saying Matt would be the scapegoat one day for the mistakes made

He's been looking wretched for a bloody long time now, and seems to be in it up to his neck in every direction.

There is something odd about the footage of this affair and despite the rank hypocrisy of his illicit anti-lockdown relations, it's almost a pity that he's finally been sunk over the most clichéd reason, although it seems that investigations will occur.

While the integrity of the cabinet could still fit on a teaspoon with spare capacity, I hope that this is a new chapter where we can start actually getting back to a real normal and not this fragile, shallow imitation.

Is Javid good or bad?

WouldBeGood · 26/06/2021 21:49

From an AD perspective?

ISaySteadyOn · 26/06/2021 21:54

DH says he's about the same.

I just feel flat again. And sad. I try to keep going but it sometimes even now feels like wading through treacle.

@WouldBeGood

Is Javid good or bad?
Functionally competent? He resigned as Chancellor with an ounce of integrity just before all the pandemic stuff kicked off when Brexit was the main agenda. My brain feels very hazy about that era now!

Aside from personal political opinion he seems to do the job to an appropriate standard without generating too much baggage which is more than can be said for Gove, Hunt, and various others. His short stint as Chancellor showed that he's not a vacant yes man, and his family are more of a working their way up background rather than an elite planted at the top which tends to bode better.

No idea about good or bad though Grin

Can't sleep again. Le sigh. Too ragey.

My impression of Javid is that he's efficient, which is potentially bad news. If he thinks everyone should do a lateral flow test daily, if he wants to tighten up T&T to the extent it's run very efficiently by tech as per other countries, then for those of us wanting to be free, things could potentially get worse.

I can only hope he has some respect for freedom.

RainbowCrayons · 27/06/2021 03:01

@Ostara212

I read a couple of reports about iceland ending all restrictions but you're right, nowhere does it mention T&T. It would be interesting to know if that was included. I can't see how they can claim to end all restrictions and keep going with T&T though, that's pretty fundamentally not freedom.

GiveMeNovocain · 27/06/2021 09:19

Still given up all hope of any kind of normality in Wales this year. There's a large majority in welsh parliament for restrictions so nothing will change. The only possible shift seems to be masks in class as the advisory group is saying they do more harm than good while cases are low. On the plus side the local pubs seem pretty busy. I rarely go into town because the queues, one way systems, masks and general enforced misery means I refuse to spend my money there. No school trips, loads of out of school stuff not restarted as it's so much hassle...lots of children haven't returned to out of school sports. The implications are grim.

On the other hand I think it's easier having no hope than the rig pulled out from under you. If 19 July goes ahead it'll probably help us too. Plus I can head across the border to shop so I'm with you all in spirit!

WouldBeGood · 27/06/2021 09:59

Ditto Scotland @GiveMeNovocain.

I guess I was kind of hoping for a mental right wing UK Health Secretary that might actually remove restrictions 😳 What a twisted world it is.

GiveMeNovocain · 27/06/2021 10:30

@WouldBeGood 😢 I want us to rediscover our inner warrior. Instead we're still thanking Drakeford for keeping us safe. Safe? Death rate here is as bad as England thanks to him and economy must be on the floor, massive waiting lists, social care crisis...the list goes on. Plus we're one of the most vaccinated countries in the world. But as long as you haven't got Covid and have an excuse to kick the Tories who cares?

This is what I want. Not twisted in my case..I keep wondering where the Tories went.
MrsEWeatherwax · 27/06/2021 11:50

I’m going out less and less, I just can’t be bothered or cope with mask in the heat and humidity. The only things keeping me going is my little family and being able to see my parents.
I’m quite anti social so don’t have many friends to missBlush. Next meet up with friend is definitely in a coffee shop, I’m not going around the park again.

GiveMeNovocain · 27/06/2021 12:04

I'm off to the pub with friends later. Can't wait but it's still illegal to have the same people in my home here. We've been told we might be able to lose masks when all the adults are double jabbed, but as not everyone will be where does that leave us? Surely it should be when everyone has had the option at the latest especially as take up has been v high here.

Curlygirl06 · 27/06/2021 12:25

As I said yesterday, when members of parliament get caught snogging the staff in the stationery cupboard, life is returning to normal!

In Wales social care was fooked our councils sold off care homes, oldies please just diee. Hospital waiting lists 2 years now due to covid cough five years. Drakeford aka labour have pulled off a blinder

Had friends in yesterday we're ignoring it now. Didn't attend football matches, no invitation to G7 this year, not a VIP so we're cracking on
Ostara212 · 27/06/2021 15:27

Anyone seen the Portuguese honeymoon rumours on Twitter?

Even if these are untrue, after this week’s revelations I cannot believe anyone is following the rules. If the rule makers think the rules not worth following why is anyone else?

MercyBooth · 27/06/2021 22:34

Yep I saw that rumour.

WouldBeGood · 27/06/2021 22:35

I wonder if it’s true?

justasking111 · 27/06/2021 23:09

Just seen this on news link on FB ...

This is a personal experience from tonight about lateral flow tests and I’m wondering how many people have had similar
Last Friday I received a text from school saying a child in my sons class had tested positive for covid so tonight I did a test on myself and my 3 kids 3 results came back negative and my son who was in the Sam class as the kid come back positive so I’ve recorded the test and informed the school who have immediately shut down his class which is fair enough but after a couple of hours I thought I’ll do another just to make sure seen as though there was 3 negatives and that test couldn’t make it’s mid up it was a test because it refused to soak up the liquid past half way so I then did a third test from a new box and it came back negative I then rang the helpline that deal with the tests and explained what had happened and was advised to have a proper test done so I asked why I could have 1 positive 1 negative and a test that didn’t even know it was a test and his answer was “well the lateral flow tests aren’t that accurate and a PCR test will confirm one of the results”
What’s the point in even doing them when even the advisors say they are pretty much useless and because of it not just my son but a whole class has to isolate and miss school and their parents will have to miss work until the proper results come back which may well be sometime Tuesday or Wednesday, it’s just ridiculous"

There is a rumour that PM and his new wife have nipped off to Portugal for a mini moon.
