@LivinLaVidaLoki I agree with isaysteadyon. Print off the exemption and give everyone a massive smile.

GiveMeNovocain · 23/06/2021 07:41

@LivinLaVidaLoki don't wear a mask, print off a form and let the head know in advance if it makes you feel more comfortable x

WouldBeGood · 23/06/2021 08:01

I’ve bought a sunflower lanyard thing for these situations @LivinLaVidaLoki. Like you I can mange a mask for a few minutes to run in somewhere, but not for long periods. No one has questioned it.

I do disagree with their premise, but helps me get out and has prevented confrontation

ISaySteadyOn · 23/06/2021 08:16

Exactly. Fwiw, yesterday, I went into a shop and was not the only maskless person in there.

GiveMeNovocain · 23/06/2021 08:20

I'd love to know where people think the germs go when they wear a mask. It just seems to redirect my breath in more directions. It doesn't catch the germs. If breathing out behind a bit of fabric was better surely that's how we'd have evolved?

ISaySteadyOn · 23/06/2021 09:35

Quite

justasking111 · 23/06/2021 09:53

With my asthma after the three hours wearing it at the hospital a week ago I'm still coughing up gunk. Not doing that again

LivinLaVidaLoki · 23/06/2021 12:48

I emailed the school to check the gov exemption would be OK and the response was basically "can [ds] dad not attend if you are unable to"

fuck right off

GiveMeNovocain · 23/06/2021 13:04

Don't ask them. Reply saying: I'm sorry for any confusion. I will be attending the sport's day on x date, but I wanted to let you know in advance to save any embarrassment on the day. As you'll be aware discriminating against people who are mask exempt is illegal, however I know it can cause some concern so I will carry my mask exemption notice for the event.
All the best...

ISaySteadyOn · 23/06/2021 13:12

Wow, can I copy/paste that response in case I need it for DD2's school?

GiveMeNovocain · 23/06/2021 13:30

Of course. It's the polite version of fuck off!
WouldBeGood · 23/06/2021 13:33

@LivinLaVidaLoki just go and do the lanyard.

Pleasenomoreglitter · 23/06/2021 14:00

That's a great response @GiveMeNovocain .
We've had confirmation of no parents, which I was now expecting. However, to try and explain they say the local authority now say our town has the highest rates in the West Midlands. Now, I knew it had gone up quite a bit round here, but I must say this did surprise me given the West Midlands includes Birmingham and all its surrounding areas, which have been included in the stricter guidance, like Manchester. So I had a look on the gov map page. Erm, the question only remains who came up with that statement, because as far as I can see it's very far from reality. The highest msoa in our town is around 200/100,000. I reckon the town as a whole will be closer to 100. There's an msoa in Birmingham at nearly 1000/100,000, so much higher. Why are the local authority telling the schools we are the highest? And people wonder why it's not taken seriously when that information that completely contradicts them is freely available?
All the hypocrisy around sport this week has really tipped me over the edge, I'm so angry all over again. The only thing that's heartening is that even on here I'm seeing much more anger and scepticism now.

flower11 · 23/06/2021 14:02

It's our schools sports day tomorrow and parents are not allowed to attend. Yet thousands of people can gather in a stadium to watch football, but apparently not a hundred on a school field.

GiveMeNovocain · 23/06/2021 14:10

We weren't allowed to attend sports day. It was as just dd's year group (60 children) in a field. She loves sports and it's usually her chance to shine as she doesn't get any other awards/certificates despite trying hard and being well behaved. I'm feeling bitter seeing the hypocrisy.

Ah that's sad. I am sorry for your daughter GiveMeNovocain and for you. Sport's day appears to have made more and more people aware of how badly we are treating children. I hope she enjoyed it even without parents attending
GiveMeNovocain · 23/06/2021 16:49

@smallandimperfectlyformed thank you. She was glad to get one this year! I'm just glad she's back at school. She sobbed with loneliness in lockdown 1. Thank goodness they kept the parks open and I got her a tutor when schools shut at Xmas. I knew the 'just a few weeks' was a lie by then!

BogRollBOGOF · 23/06/2021 16:55

Ours are doing a non-parent sports day Hmm

It's not that in itself, it's the whole package of lost or severely distorted school events and the utterly disproportionate understanding of risks of being outdoors.

They already manage to sit the classes in pens on a regular set-up. It's not difficult to use the same principle for class bubbles of parents and more than enough space to do it sensibly.

I might have to take myself walkies so I don't wind myself up by hearing it in my conservatory/ garden. How I loathed the sound of the special privilaged childrem playing while mine were excluded this time last year.
I normally love the chorus of children playing. I'm not normally a curmudgeon.

That's a good point @BogRollBOGOF, I live in the next road from school and I think it will upset me too much to hear the cheering knowing I can't be there when DS has already said how much he wants me to be there.

I will arrange to work somewhere else that day and finish early so I can pick him up and mix with all the parents I'm not permitted to mix with during sports day and take him for an ice lolly.

LivinLaVidaLoki · 23/06/2021 20:02

Oh that's awful @GiveMeNovocain

I just emailed the head back explaining he must have misunderstood as I will be attending, I was just advising him that I am exempt and will have the exemption from the gov website.

I've had a really shitty day at work today. For the first time I'm actually considering a change in career.
