I lack empathy and any knowledge of Science, it’s totally back to the days of yore.

RainbowCrayons · 22/06/2021 16:08

@LivinLaVidaLoki I'm waiting for Thursdays announcement too. I'm just hoping we get taken off the red list. Or somewhere with a travel corridor for the vaccinated goes on the green list. My grandma isn't doing well and it's getting pretty clear that if I can't get home this summer I probably won't see her again.

I tried talking to DH about this and he said 'I said that sounded really hard, I'm not sure what else I can do'. I know he can't literally do anything but having more emotional understanding than a robot would be nice at times too.

amicissimma · 22/06/2021 16:39

"Well, I braved it over there, joined in a quite reasonable discussion and am now being attacked by another poster. Have reported to MN but they are still allowed to just carry on."

"I lack empathy and any knowledge of Science, it’s totally back to the days of yore."

Do you have your heads in the sand? Do you not understand what exponential means?

Sadly even the data thread is suffering from incursions of opinion-as-fact posts.

MercyBooth · 22/06/2021 16:45

@whistleflower I saw your comment about Hancock wanting to mix vaccines Whats he playing at?

110APiccadilly · 22/06/2021 16:49

I love being asked whether I understand exponential growth. Er, yes, much better than most people (very mathematical background).

LivinLaVidaLoki · 22/06/2021 17:22

I saw that @amicissimma I don't often post on that thread as I don't have much to offer, but I do lurk and have found it a very interesting read.

But lately it's been taken over by noisy maths and predictions posted as projections and constant "this is my opinion, if you don't believe it you've your head in the sand oh and you're stupid too" posters. It's a real shame they can't leave some threads alone.

Quite why they have to go on to the good news thread is anyones guess.....

MrsDeaconClaybourne · 22/06/2021 17:25

Does anyone think the football nonsense will be the final straw for lots of people? Feel like I reached final straw ages ago but this has properly given me The Rage! And that's as someone who loves watching football and is glad it's taken place.

But watching all the fans singing when we're not allowed to in school topped off by the idea that team members are not Close contact' when most of us are living in dread of a bubble going down is really driving home how unfair it all is.

MercyBooth · 22/06/2021 18:08

They cant even let us have the State of Fear threads + the State of Fear Laura Dodsworth one.

It's strange how even questioning lockdowns and restrictions is met with such venom. Being engaged in government choices, asking questions and even disagreeing used to be encouraged as part of a healthy civic society. It's why there's usually a duty to consult. No more cod Covid!
GiveMeNovocain · 22/06/2021 18:46

Cos Covid ffs

WouldBeGood · 22/06/2021 18:52

But, but, the Scientists!!!

The book one is still there?

Hopefully no one will post any more weird stuff and just talk about the book.

smallandimperfectlyformed · 22/06/2021 19:26

I actually posted a response to a thread on the corona virus board, very unlike me but it popped up on active and was horrible so I felt I had to answer! It was to the effect of thise who have elected not to get the vaccine should be denied NHS treatment! Luckily almost all of the responses felt the same as me, that this is disgusting. I have had the vaccine and am pro vaccination in general, in fact I unfriended someone on Facebook because she was posting some mad anti vax stuff a few years ago (we weren't close anyway!) but I couldn't agree with medical treatment only being given to the 'deserving'. I am so sorry for those of you who have family overseas. Also for those who work in the tourist industry!

Taswama · 22/06/2021 19:36

Elsewhere on here the phrase 'Peak xxx' is banned. Not sure what the relevant phrase for peak restrictions would be, but it being obvious that the rules don't apply to everyone is it.

smallandimperfectlyformed · 22/06/2021 19:38

Ooh the thread I was talking about has been removed for 'not being in the spirit of the site'. Thank God it isn't!

MercyBooth · 22/06/2021 20:27

What ive noticed is the far left talk about the deserving/undeserving patient and the far right talk about the deserving/undeserving poor.

Ostara212 · 22/06/2021 21:10

And the book thread looks set to go..
Grr when posters post videos without doing any sense checks.

smallandimperfectlyformed · 22/06/2021 21:55

@MercyBooth

What ive noticed is the far left talk about the deserving/undeserving patient and the far right talk about the deserving/undeserving poor.
It all makes me sick. Who are we to get to decide who is deserving and who isn't? Medical care should just go to those who need it and in times of chaos those who need it the most should be prioritised. With regards to the deserving poor, I am glad that workhouses don't exist any more as I suspect some people would want me in one!
winched · 22/06/2021 21:56

@Ostara212 that was me and I hold my hands up... I momentarily forgot we were living in a time where we have to check the life history of every single person who has an opinion on something before we can acknowledge their opinions on a completely unrelated subject.

It's a wonder anyone is allowed to mention what Boris says regarding lockdown without having a massive disclaimer about his previously racist and sexist remarks below every comment.

I really hope I've not caused the thread to be pulled and if I have I'm deeply sorry. Navigating what you are and aren't allowed to say outside of groupthink has become a full time job recently and I'm so exhausted with it.

I've namechanged going forward (and will every few days) because a specific poster follows me around like a bad smell and honestly it's draining arguing against the false accusations that rarely relate to the thread they are posting on.

justasking111 · 22/06/2021 22:12

The tripe I see here and elsewhere on the www being spouted with such venom reminds me of the witch trials in Salem you see in the movies it really shows that superstition still trumps science. Screaming crowds demanding execution of anyone who thinks differently

Ostara212 · 22/06/2021 22:38

winched sorry, that was a short tempered comment, I apologise.
I take your point about the full time job.
I was seeing it as a job to try and keep threads on track but I think we're doomed whatever we do and I am sorry.

I didn't just mean you btw. I think any discussion needs to be careful. But it's pretty much over for me, I can't fight any more.

GiveMeNovocain · 23/06/2021 04:32

The undeserving patient stuff is obscene. As I always point out expecting the NHS to judge a resin before treating them is a terrible idea. They'd treat a mass murderer injured committing their crime before a victim based on clinical need yet some think they shouldn't treat people on a vaccination decision? No. That's not how the system works. However, they will withhold treatment if bmi/smoking/drinking mean an intervention will be more dangerous.

Decisions based on cost per quality added year are normal. How much has every year saved from a Covid death cost us in every other way? That's the unacceptable trade off.

LivinLaVidaLoki · 23/06/2021 06:01

Had an email confirming sports day on Friday, one parent per child one year group a day. Masks must be worn unless a visible exemption is seen or you will not be allowed entry.

I wear my mask when I have to but lately I am struggling. I'm OK for the few minutes picking ds up at the end of the day but for a prolonged period I struggle.

I have asthma that's triggered by allergies. Usually it's managed by a specific nasal antihistamine only available on prescription.

My gp won't prescribe it anymore due to cost so I was given an alternative. It doesn't work. So I'm on my 2nd alternative. That's not working either. I'm breathless easily and feel almost constantly wheezy.

I'm dreading it. My gp suggested printing off an exemption from thegov.ukwebsite but I'm scared it won't be believed as I've worn one for pick up.

Maybe I should email the head beforehand and explain?

ISaySteadyOn · 23/06/2021 06:46

Will Sports Day take place on school property? If not, they can't require masks because it's not their space to do so.

Also, it doesn't matter if you wore one to pickup sometimes. Your GP has now told you they are harmful to you (I think to anyone really but beside the point) so you are changing based on new information. I think the GP's suggestion of printing an exemption form is a good one. Legally, you don't need it but if it helps you then do it.
