I just got told that i was hoping for things to go badly because i pointed out that it looks like those who insisted that last Christmas was a one off were wrong if that article i linked above comes to fruition.

LivinLaVidaLoki · 21/06/2021 18:49

Can I have a bit of a self indulgent moan.

Im actually really struggling today. Greeces cases are falling they had 200-odd yesterday and most tourism islands are 60%+ vaccinated so they should be moved to a green list. But I know they won't as Wanksock will block it again and I'll have to put my trip backagain.
Every time there is a review coming up I feel like I'm on edge. All the media speculation in general and the "Close the borders! Stay the fuck at home!" People here just get me down so much. I'm exhausted and I want a break and I want to see my family. So much for vaccination being the way out of this clusterfuck.

I know there are people with bigger and more pressing issues but I just feel so sad today.

MercyBooth · 21/06/2021 19:20

@LivinLaVidaLoki Flowers When is the next review?

LivinLaVidaLoki · 21/06/2021 19:27

This Thursday I think. Thats when it will be 3 weeks since the last one.

MercyBooth · 21/06/2021 19:29

Fingers crossed for it @LivinLaVidaLoki After the furore and hypocrisy at G7 i dont see why they cant.....

I've given up trying to figure out the psychology of that. I thought this was a chat board but people seem to think expressing an opinion is a statement of fact.

I am dreading further lockdown, predicting it doesn't mean I'm looking forward to it!

I thought about trying to get my second vaccine early in case it gives me more freedom. The pop up centre is gone. Nearest is 30 mins drive which I'm not thrilled about, though my parents could take me. The faff of having a bad reaction, needing collection, needing to get car collected...

It's sad, I don't want it and I shouldn't need it but I hear rumours it might spare you from isolation? I'm sure they've dropped that in as a carrot. I actually don't know how soon they will allow it after the first one.

Just dithering at the mo.

Headline reads................

"Schools to weigh pupils over fear of obesity spike.

Checks brought back in primaries to reveal impact of lockdown"

WouldBeGood · 21/06/2021 20:45

I never consent to any of these programmes in school

MercyBooth · 21/06/2021 20:52

I think they have got a fucking cheek after preventing kids from sports days PE and playing out by cordoning off parks all in the last 15 months Angry

WouldBeGood · 21/06/2021 20:56

Yep

Taswama · 21/06/2021 21:16

The weigh ins aren't due to restart until next year anyway, so they will have missed two cohorts (or four - 2 x reception and 2 x year 6). I would quite like to know how much ds2 (in year 6) weighs so may actually have to buy some scales!

BogRollBOGOF · 21/06/2021 23:10

Mine have come off lightly (so to speak). Partly genetic luck that's favourable until they reach 30, partly that several activities came back for a bit in the autumn that broke it up a bit, and partly that we walked with them a lot last summer. This time last year we trespassed into playgrounds because DS2 was showing depressed behaviour. They're also young enough to pick activities back up. Much older than DS1 and they often lose interest in formal activities anyway. We did struggle by January. In Feb, I took DS's friend to the park a few times and he was puffing. When one of my youth groups did a cycling evening, they were puffing much more than usual. It tends to be working parents around here and there is a limit to how far you can stretch your time on limited opportunities. I have more time than most, but that's because teaching and wrap around care were not a good lifestyle for DS1's needs.

A good number of my DCs classmates look heavier than they used to. The more active ones are begining to grow back into themselves more now they've had a few months of more normal routines. The ones who were more sedentary anyway are not doing so well.

The problem with the childhood checks is too many parents dismiss the letters anyway and it's so long between the yR and y6. The advice sent out is the obvious and tends to the patronising end. Nothing's actually done to deal with the root causes, getting children more active (things like the daily mile) and decent, affordable school dinners. Again it's a haves/ have nots issue. Families with disposable income will recover to pre-lockdown activity levels better than those who struggle and use more risk averse council/ voluntary services than private providers keen to get back to earning money.

In our big park, the paddling pools/ bouncy castles/ canoes are shut again until social distancing is scrapped. They didn't open last summer. Public swimming for families is either off limits or expensive private hire of portions of the pool. We've not swum for fun in 15m. (At least mine have lessons).

Flu, norovirus, hospital clogged with cases. Guess what these spread like wildfire in hospital. Mrsa cdiff again hospital infections.

LivinLaVidaLoki · 22/06/2021 06:53

206 cases in Greece yesterday 7 day average 450.

Got my fingers crossed so so hard.

LivinLaVidaLoki · 22/06/2021 06:55

As an aside, our primary is weighing children again. My friend refused consent. When asked why she said "the government doesn't get to take away all of her sport and group activities for a year and then get to turn around and call her fat"

I will be doing the same. They literally chained up playgrounds here. I'm done with complying with the whims of this terrible government
whistleflower · 22/06/2021 07:17

Found you all after this showed up in active Blush namechanged a couple of times (because how 'personal' are certain Ds getting? Just me?) but I remember the breath of fresh air of the original threads and the chess piece symbol of solidarity.

GiveMeNovocain · 22/06/2021 08:50

I'm very reluctant to comply with any optional government scheme at the moment. I don't trust them an inch. I always used to think at least we had a government with their heart in the right place in Wales. Now I've realised that if they don't stand up for what matters in an emergency it's all just lip service 😢

Worldgonecrazy · 22/06/2021 08:57

And still no anger. If we had asked people three years ago if they believed politicians had the best interests of the population at heart, 99% would have said a resounding no.

Yet here we are having that demonstrated and people are just meekly following roolz.

I’m very angry about weighing kids. It is patronising and will do fuck all to address the causes of ill health and obesity.

Where are the government initiatives to truly increase the health of the nation?

I’m sick of seeing ‘save the nhs’ with no long term plans to reduce burden.

There is no doubt that lockdown has had a very significant effect on the physical and mental health of the nation. Where are the plans to address this? Why are we wasting billions on track and trace instead of spending millions on public health initiatives?

When you truly understand the government does not care about you, should it not motivate people to be more self reliant?

I really dont get it.

GiveMeNovocain · 22/06/2021 09:15

Isn't it fun to be an involuntary participant on a mass social experiment? I love the way people blithely declare the children will be fine despite all evidence to the contrary. I'm not how you can look at what we've done to the most vulnerable and think it was worth ripping up decades of pandemic planning to institute lockdown

whistleflower · 22/06/2021 09:52

@Worldgonecrazy if you'd told me ten years ago I'd be watching Russell Brand asking these kinds of questions and listening to his thought provoking answers I'd have pointed to a liar. But I've enjoyed his thought provoking commentary on recent events and find myself agreeing with him more and more.

But this is really quite fascinating (title is a little clickbaity because the woman is talking about studies of viruses in general - so if anyone needs all opinions presented as information, doubly referenced, fact checked, and peer reviewed - use it as a thought experiment Grin).

WouldBeGood · 22/06/2021 09:53

The telegraph today has an article about lockdowns and the terrifying impact on the mental health of children.

Worldgonecrazy · 22/06/2021 12:23

@whistleflower. Thank you. She makes some very good points, even though they do seem a bit “school of the bleedin obvious “.Grin

There are so many things society could be doing in the way of self help and the government could be doing instead of lining the pockets of their mates.

To paraphrase Zubi. We are at a point in time when self care is an act of rebellion.

Exactly that. They'll be paying consultants to "encourage" take up of the scheme too.

I don't want to see more public money spent on anything. Freeze, then reallocate.

LivinLaVidaLoki · 22/06/2021 14:52

Well, I braved it over there, joined in a quite reasonable discussion and am now being attacked by another poster. Have reported to MN but they are still allowed to just carry on.
