MozzchopsThirty · 05/05/2021 19:03

I bought a pea shoot and garlic stir fry mix!!!!!
A bloody stir fry mix, I mean how can it be better than any other stir fry?
It was amazing Smile

And their Chinese food is so much better than a takeaway

And their sweet chilli beetroot is the best

Why? Why? Why?

These are not fancy foods???? These are M&S foods
(And I can't afford to shop there)

It is nice looking. I used to wonder round staring longingly at all the fancy foods, but only went in there for burgers, sausages and the odd cake. Too expensive to do anything else, but if we ever have guests again I'll be down there to get some of the delicious looking stuff and pass it off as home made.

Salt salt and more salt I’m afraid.

merrygoround88 · 05/05/2021 21:47

I find their fruit great, veg and meat mediocre, cheese poor but their Indian, Thai meals and lasagnes are divine.
Chocolate milk is the best ever

@MozzchopsThirty

What is this yellow sticker bonanza of which you speak???? Is it one area? Only in the morning?
I think it depends on each individual store. Mine seem to have most yellow stickers in the evening. Sometimes there's nothing I fancy and sometimes they yellow sticker some of my faves. Last Christmas they had these boxes of gorgeous chocolate and vanilla almonds that were so bloody moreish. They were reduced from £6 to £1 straight after Christmas. I bought a few...

I can't forgive them for what they did to their vegetarian moussaka, which was brilliant: delicious layers of aubergine and potato and lentils in a special sauce, topped with béchamel. The current incarnation is just red pasta sauce with a couple of bits of aubergine and a thick layer of white blancmange-type stuff on top.

A custard choux bun might just make me feel a bit more positive, though...

@ShoppingPrecinctPrincess

yellow sticker time at M&S is bonanza time. especially if the shop is quiet.
If I manage to snag a yellow sticker item I get an actual adrenaline rush pathetic I know
MrsFezziwig · 05/05/2021 21:54

Their black Sable grapes are reliably good (though not sure what sorcery allows them to be sold all the year round)

That would be the ‘veganised’ version I expect - I remember the lentil ones with the creamy sauce they were really nice if that’s the one you mean? I remember their asparagus and mushroom lasagne as well, amazing. And the puff pasty mushroom slices in a two pack the mushrooms were in a sauce made with Sherry, they were lovely Their vegetarian cottage pie is really nice though and is a new product they didn’t have before.
midnightstar66 · 05/05/2021 22:10

They are absolutely laced with salt. Not a complaint as I'm not bothered about salt intake but I don't actually use much generally and find M&S stuff always leaves me even more thirsty than a McDonald's. Even the bread tastes salty

Brazilianut · 05/05/2021 22:28

Had a quick glimpse at the yellow label products as a crowd had formed around them only to see a teen behind filming us all on his mobile phone saying ‘look at these peasants’ Grin

Cushionsnotpillows · 05/05/2021 22:32

I only have a little M&S Food near me so dont have all the items mentioned but I'm taking notes!
I like their fruit, goyzu, butter chicken from the Indian ready meal range, various breads and their pork pies are a particular weakness.
DH and DS love the Habanero chilli tortilla crisps, Aberdeen Angus burgers, and the Italian ready meals (3 for £7, pretty good).

Only thing I was a little disappointed by were their macarons.

Loved some of their Christmas food, a real treat.

My store is mobbed 5-6pm with the rush hour traffic coming from the bigger city out to our area, so between 6 and 7pm is prime time for a yellow sticker bargain here.

WeAllHaveWings · 05/05/2021 22:34

You must have a terrible chinese food takeaway if an m&s meal is better.

Lavanderrose · 05/05/2021 22:41

I agree with you op. I absolutely adore their Singapore noodles ready meal and oh my gosh... their white chocolate chip cookies!!

willowstar · 05/05/2021 22:45

Their basic Italian pasta sauce is the best ready made in a jar pasta sauce I have ever eaten. I also find their peri peri mayonnaise irresistible.

ThursdayLastWeek · 05/05/2021 22:51

You have to know your local store re: yellow labels.

I have two within striking distance. The one in a town that has better yellow labels at the end of the day. My preferred store is in one of those retail parks with a boots and TK Maxx, and the yellow labels are better in the morning.

But mostly it’s just luck.
Such a thrill Wink

ThursdayLastWeek · 05/05/2021 22:53

They don’t move the yellow labels in the one I go to. They’re just there, sitting with all their longer dated chums where they belong.

CornishTiger · 05/05/2021 22:56

Oh gosh Custard Choux buns. Now I need to go to M&S

RutlandVasey · 05/05/2021 23:04

I feel cheated that the Oakham chickens are not farmed in Oakham.

Diverseopinions · 05/05/2021 23:24

It's because they mince their ingredients really finely. The flavours all blend nicely that way. Case in point, spagetti bolognaise - tiny, tender morsels in smooth, refined sauce, almost as if it's been sieved.
The salad dressings are a hit: very finely, finely blended with no bathing in oil feeling that you get from other supermarkets.

Slso

Definately · 05/05/2021 23:52

I want to go to M&S now. I end up spending less when I shop there because I buy food that we actually want to eat and won't waste any.

TheUnquestionedAnswer · 06/05/2021 00:08

I bought a chicken 'piev' the other day. Not very nice at all, I never really eat pie, but fancied it. Wouldn't buy again. Most other things are very nice though.

Their grapes are amazing all year round . The boule bread is mouthwatering - my son calls it the special bread 😀

Notthatmuchroyalist · 06/05/2021 01:43

M&S is IMHO the best at lunches and takeaways. Waitrose do good curries, chinese and there is the Charlie Bigham range, but when it comes to your mid price ready meal, M&S have that nailed for quality and price and freshness. Also their samdwiches and salads are way nicer and more varied. Although Waitrose sushi is pretty good.

M&S also do an insane chocolate chip flapjack.

TheSilence · 06/05/2021 01:57

@ChiefBabySniffer

rat mask? Howling! 😂🤷🏼‍♀️🤦🏼‍♀️ READY MEAL !!!
Lol!!! I knew it was a typo when I read it but couldn’t figure out what it was meant to be! 😂 Best typo I’ve read in a while, it’s had me in stitches, no idea why!! 😆

And yes M&S food is like no other, it’s from food heaven.
