MozzchopsThirty · 05/05/2021 19:03

I bought a pea shoot and garlic stir fry mix!!!!!
A bloody stir fry mix, I mean how can it be better than any other stir fry?
It was amazing Smile

And their Chinese food is so much better than a takeaway

And their sweet chilli beetroot is the best

Why? Why? Why?

These are not fancy foods???? These are M&S foods
(And I can't afford to shop there)

GloriaSilver · 05/05/2021 20:58

Definitely a ‘treat’ shop

the best ever prawn sandwich...its not a lie

ThursdayLastWeek · 05/05/2021 21:01

I’m not exaggerating when I say it became my lock down hobby to get to my local M&S as early as I could be arsed to sweep up as many yellow labels as possible.

In fact I had a very good haul yesterday! A cold BH weekend meant loads of BBQ stuff was unsold and is now sitting in my freezer Smile

ThursdayLastWeek · 05/05/2021 21:03

I love the caramel eclairs, the chilli cheese dip, the naan breads, the piccolino tomatoes, the 2 for £3.50 salads (although they’ve been rebranded and are no longer on that offer), dirty fries, the cheese and bacon topped sausage rolls...

ShoppingPrecinctPrincess · 05/05/2021 21:03

yellow sticker time at M&S is bonanza time. especially if the shop is quiet.

andivfmakes3 · 05/05/2021 21:03

During lockdown 3 there were queues for my M&S all day every day - as soon as the other shops were allowed to reopen no more queues so I think a lot of people had the same hobby as you! 🤣

andivfmakes3 · 05/05/2021 21:04

I'm also doing a sweep every morning hoping the new wagyu beef burgers have a yellow sticker

That’s a good point! It was quieter yesterday than it was in January!

@ShoppingPrecinctPrincess

the custard choux are so dense with custard. no skimping goes on there Grin
I tried a choux bun from Morrison's last week, what a disappointment.

Dreaming of a Marks one right now!

IWouldntBother · 05/05/2021 21:10

Their bakery is the best, chocolate shortbread and fruit scones.

I'm gasping for some sugary delights right now and all I have is shite heathy food in the house!

BashfulClam · 05/05/2021 21:16

Done things are amazing but some things are a let down :(

Sugarcube84 · 05/05/2021 21:18

Dp had the Sri Lankan prawn and potato curry the other night and loved it, I was eyeing up the Thai box but I know he loves a prawn curry so chose from the range and made it up myself. We tried some starters, chicken in batter meh but veg tempura lovely, I should have tried the sweet corn fritters or fiahcakes.

Totally agree with this. I'm always thirsty afterwards though as they're very salty but it's not that noticed when eating them!

M&S prawn sandwiches have always been delicious.

Still loads cheaper than a take away - plus the added assurance that you know how it’s been prepared - it makes perfect sense as I find buying some good quality food that doesn't need prepping and you just cook yourself is always hot, and lovely tasting and much less expensive than a delivery...but that depends on when you live I guess 🍸
Crunchymum · 05/05/2021 21:22

It's one of my local supermarkets and I'm fed up of it to be honest!!! Have spent far too much time there in the various lockdown/s.

Things I really rate:
Sage & onion stuffing
Jaffa cakes (don't eat the regular round ones, ever!)
Bakery bread made with cheddar cheese
Pre cooked chicken packs (3 for £7. Fab for lunches - I particularly like the Mexican chicken)
Humous (definitely the nicest of all the shop brands)
Kids pizza and chicken teddies (both of which I confess to eating myself)
Prawn cocktail crisps

I prefer thier berries over other supermarkets and also randomly their jacket spuds (they are very expensive though- £1.75 for 4, whereas Sainbos are 50p so I only buy buy if they are reduced)

Non food wise they do the best daffodils (when in season) and their roses last a good week... the £3 a bunch ones.

I also like their own brand kitchen spray and they are the only store who seem to currently sell white bin bags that fit my bin.

As I say I've spent way too much time in M&S to know so much about their binbags Grin

I couldn't do my weekly shop there as its too expensive and there is a lot that they don't have.

36degrees · 05/05/2021 21:25

Oh God that cheese bread.

SappysCurry · 05/05/2021 21:26

The green olive and chilli ciabatta rolls are exceptional, absolutely perfect and they freeze well. They’re lovely and If they stopped stocking them I’d be really upset🐷

MozzchopsThirty · 05/05/2021 21:29

What is this yellow sticker bonanza of which you speak????
Is it one area?
Only in the morning?

M&S Food always reminds me of having just given birth to my children. Our hospital has an M&S Cafe and Foodhall. The hospital food was gross. I was in for nearly a week with both. So both times DH was dispatched for meals from there.

I used to have coffee, fruit and pastries for breakfast, one of their yummy pre-made sandwiches, salad and crisps for my lunch and usually a pasta pot with cooked chicken/salmon or a their fresh soups or a ready meal for my dinner (which DH used to heat in the visitors room for me then bring in!).

Oh an copious amounts of their cheese tasters and yum yums whenever I fancied a snack (often!)

Definitely not the healthiest, and cost a fortune but it was a nice treat!

Myphone · 05/05/2021 21:33

Loosy Goosey with the salt, sugar and fat. Everything seems to have cream/milk or butter in it. Even the bread tastes sweet.😆

WARNING! Whatever you do. Don’t tell them what your favourites are. They will reduce the size, change the recipe and remove it from any offer.

Boxachocs · 05/05/2021 21:39

Cranberry and walnut bread from the bakery is a must try. I agree with a pp about their strawberries too, always the best ones.

Happyschool · 05/05/2021 21:41

I love M&s and didn’t Realise sparks cards make a good difference so must look into that.
I find their fruit reliably good. We also love their orange juice ice lollies (and the fact that they try and avoid preservatives in food where they can so I do try and buy bread there. )
They’re great at being considerate for GF too and have so much we can eat eg GF breaded chicken is very good
