Is there anywhere on the coast that sells VEGAN fish & chips?

Hi, I’ve been vegan for years, but woke up this morning to a drizzly bank holiday weekend and have this yearning to sit on a beach eating fish & chips.

I know you can buy vegan ‘fish’ but I wondered if anyone knew of anywhere on the coast that sells it?

Many thanks.

Gosh. Such a lot of aggression on here today. Must be all that red meat. And you say that it’s the vegans who are the dogmatic ones. Quite extraordinary, really. Why not try to relax. Can I suggest a trip to the seaside?

Keepyourdistance000 · 03/05/2021 14:22

I saw Quorn Vegan Fishless Fingers today in Asda. So VEGAN fish does exist.

MonkeyNotOrgangrinder · 03/05/2021 14:36

It amazes me how upset some meat eaters seem to get at the mention of other people who don't eat meat!

Do you also harp on about the lack of ham in hamburger btw?? The description is wrong! They should be called ham-style beefburgers!!

And just so rude to come onto a thread about vegan food and start telling vegans what shit people they are. Very very weird behaviour from the meat eaters on this thread, imo.

Have you tried thinking about why you might feel so apparently triggered by someone mentioning they want to buy vegan food?!

Interested in this thread?

Not all of the meat eaters, of course

Quite. This thread took a turn.

I thought it was weird that OP wanted food recommendations for the entirety of 'the coast' and had no concept of Brighton but that's not even close to the weirdness of coming onto a thread clearly asking for vegan recommendations to shout at vegans, tell them their words are all wrong, question their motives for a day at the seaside and then say THEY are the dogmatic ones.

I've never actually seen a vegan rock up on a meat related thread in here but can guarantee any vegan thread will attract a load of non-vegans taking issue, screeching about vegan propaganda, finding it oh so impossible to understand why anyone would not eat meat but still enjoy something that shares a name or shape with a meat product, and inevitably making the oh so funny joke that vegans will always have to tell you they're vegan.

I'm not a vegan.

I have absolutely no issue with terms like 'vegan fish' its blatantly obvious what it means and why the terminology is used and it harms precisely nobody to call it that. Taking such issue with it is utterly bizarre. How do you cope with hotdogs or Bombay duck. My mum fondly remembered the 'mock crab' sandwiches they ate when she was young, I wonder if any of the wartime housewives sharing the recipe were forced to justify their terminology. Peanuts aren't actually nuts - I hope the next thread that mentions them gets a similar 'plain language' campaign waged on it.

Well said, AliasGrape!

@RampantIvy

We live in Yorkshire, and struggled one year to find a fish and chip shop in Bridlington that sold chips cooked in vegetable oil.

Every single fish and chip shop cooked their chips in beef dripping, so DD ended up sitting on the Quay with a jacket potato. She was so disappointed.

If you live in Yorkshire you should know that's the only way to cook fish and chips. Vegetable oil? Southern muck Grin
Soubriquet · 03/05/2021 14:57

I’m in Lincolnshire and the best and most popular chip shop in our town is beef dripping chips

I really fancy (Lincolnshire) battered sausage, chips and mushy peas. You fuckers. I can’t have it till at least Friday SadSad

Hilarious. A hamburger has absolutely NOTHING to do with ham and everything to do with Hamburg in Germany.

schroeder · 03/05/2021 15:21

I have been told so many times how friendly people are in the North of England, but this is the truth- 'Southern muck'

Ha, yes, I was thinking of hotdogs 😬 do excuse my addled brain, I've just finished a run of night shifts and finding it difficult to think properly 🤣
Soubriquet · 03/05/2021 15:39

You mean my hotdog isn’t actually a hot dog?! Shock

I’m aghast. Talk about miswording the product

God, vegans really do live in some people's heads rent free, don't they? Amazing hostility to someone else's dietary choice on show from some here.

So true
1940s · 03/05/2021 18:58

It really makes me cringe thinking of meat eaters sitting typing about how aggravated they are that something is called a vegan sausage instead or soya / seitan / quorn soya mix cylinder. So pathetic isn't it

VodkaSlimline · 03/05/2021 20:13

@BrittanyKAMA

Jeez, there are some twats on this thread. If you’re not interested in vegan food, then DON’T OPEN A THREAD ABOUT VEGAN FOOD!!!
You're one to talk asking for "vegan fish", frankly. Do you know the meaning of those two words? Kind of mutually exclusive...
crackofdoom · 03/05/2021 20:15

Yes, can they not all bore off and dedicate their time to sending incandescent emails to Sun Pat because peanut butter doesn’t contain any actual butter or something? Hmm

bongsuhan · 03/05/2021 20:22

Almost as if the meat eaters were all oversensitive Snowflakes triggered by harmless crap.

BunnyRuddington · 03/05/2021 20:24

Don't know if it's been mentioned before but Barnacles in Llandudno has a Vegan and a Gluten free menu. Such a great little chippy Smile

Imissmoominmama · 03/05/2021 20:28

I hope you get your lovely coastal dinner OP. There have been some real twats on this thread.

sashh · 03/05/2021 20:33

Usually people bring up soya of which 98% is for animal feed. Animals that will be killed for meat. You really can't argue that vegans are just as cruel to animals, it's a nonsense argument. I'm not vegan either.

No, in order to produce soya for human consumption you have to produce a crop that is 98% useless to humans. Is it more ethical to feed it to animals or what? Bury it?

As for dripping, it heats to a higher temperature so not only do your chips taste better they don't need to be cooked as long and don't absorb a much fat as chips cooked in oil.

Hilarious. A hamburger has absolutely NOTHING to do with ham and everything to do with Hamburg in Germany.

Just as Buffalo wings originated in Buffalo and are not wings belonging to animals.

Amen to that. Makes me want to get vegan fish and chips just to thumb my nose at them - and I'd never heard of vegan fish and chips before today! Grin

Not true re 98% crop is wasted and only 2% is suitable for human consumption.
