Is there anywhere on the coast that sells VEGAN fish & chips?

Hi, I’ve been vegan for years, but woke up this morning to a drizzly bank holiday weekend and have this yearning to sit on a beach eating fish & chips.

I know you can buy vegan ‘fish’ but I wondered if anyone knew of anywhere on the coast that sells it?

Many thanks.

Utterly pathetic. I have my vegan fish fingers in the oven right now.. oooo are you triggered?

What a completely unnecessary post Confused. Did it make you feel better?

Oh. That is West Coast, California. 😍

@BarbaraofSeville

I'm also surprised that vegans and vegetarians are apparently surprised/unaware that some* chip shops use beef dripping.
  • By some, I mean just about all of them in this county, because it's traditional and preferred by just about everyone, vegetarians and vegans excepted of course.
I've never been to a London chippy using dripping. It's a northern / coastal thing

What county are you in? Beef dripping chip Shops are becoming vanishingly rare. I've never come across one in London and have lived and travelled extensively in London

Dripping is used in Yorkshire. See my earlier post about Bridlington.

I think we all need to calm down and focus on the main issue here, which that banana blossom tastes like absolute dogshit.

I quite like it. And knowing that it wasn't tortured and killed makes it taste even better Smile

I bet they wouldn't serve dogshit in batter, in beef dripping or veg oil.

Even in that there Brighton

Vegan for the animals and environment. But if I can replicate taste, texture and familiar means why not? The majority of vegans are vegan for the same reasons not because we despise the flavour of all meat / dairy products.

In that case I hop you don't eat / use soya

QuitMoaning · 03/05/2021 07:54

On the other hand, most chips in a fish and chip shop are cooked in beef dripping so if you are vegan or vegetarian you need to ask

Not true. Most Southern shops use vegetable oil. A significant number of Northern shops do use dripping but not all.

Vegans/vegetarians/GF should find a shop that is happy to enter into a conversation about their cooking techniques as that will give them comfort. If the shop doesn’t want to divulge then find another one.

hamstersarse · 03/05/2021 07:57

Vegan propaganda really has done a number on so many people!

Processed seed oils being better for you and the environment than beef dripping?!?

A veritable toxic chemical mix of shit is better for you than some actual fish?

No wonder the population of the Uk has such bad health

GrumpyMiddleAgedWoman · 03/05/2021 07:59

Vegan for the animals
I say this every bloody time, but I assume you are aware of the vast numbers of animals killed during the production of crops. Around here, rabbits, wood pigeons and several species of deer are routinely shot to protect the crops. And if you have seen what woodies or rabbits can do to a young crop, you'd appreciate why.

Then you get onto the control of birds and rodents where the crops are stored. And the spraying of insects and the chopping up of invertebrates, reptiles and small mammals during tillage and harvest

Your alternative to that is closed up glasshouses, where any insects are promptly disposed of and nothing else has any chance at all.

So don't kid yourself that veganism is 'cruelty free'. Personally I don't think there's much of an ethical difference between sanctioning a cull of wild boar that are trashing the crops and sanctioning the slaughter of free-range pigs.

I'm in Yorkshire, the chippies that use oil actively promote oil/halal the default seems to be dripping.
lynsey91 · 03/05/2021 08:03

Fish and chips cooked in beef dripping is definitely a northern thing. Never came across it in over 40 years living in London and Essex.

Why on earth you would cook fish in meat dripping I really don't know. Chips cooked in it taste vile and it explains the stomach turning smell that comes out of most of the chip shops up here.

No one I know wants their fish and/or chips cooked in it and most of them are not vegan or vegetarian.

Just plain weird (bit like gravy on absolutely everything)

hamstersarse · 03/05/2021 08:11

Bravo!

It’s funny the vegan propaganda doesn’t mention any of thIs.

Veganism is a ideological dogma, nothing else

And I say this every bloody time. Most of the crops are for animal feed. Usually people bring up soya of which 98% is for animal feed. Animals that will be killed for meat. You really can't argue that vegans are just as cruel to animals, it's a nonsense argument. I'm not vegan either.

Why is it ok for people to come on this post and slag off vegans, we don’t go on posts where people are talking about having a nice steak or whatever and slag off non vegans.

hamstersarse · 03/05/2021 08:13

You can’t manufacture or produce any food for humans without animals dying. That’s just a fact.

Personally I’d prefer calorie and nutrient rich specifically bred cows, than entire eco systems being destroyed for some toxic soy.

Don't be ridiculous. You are slagging the vegans because you know their choices make you feel bad about your own choices.

Soya is produced almost entirely for animal feed! Educate yourself

Because they are wankers Sad

hamstersarse · 03/05/2021 08:16

@Yorkterrier

Nope, I don’t feel bad about my food choices. I eat foods that are not processed (healthy) and not destroying eco systems

What eco systems are being destroyed for vegans?

Yorkterrier · 03/05/2021 08:19

MN drives me nuts. I'm hiding this thread now. What a bunch of arseholes. Keep off vegan threads if you're going to just slag them off.

annie335 · 03/05/2021 08:20

I'm guessing there's not much call for it op.
