With my MN chicken I made 17 meals and three sandwiches.

It can be done!
Large chicken, don't know the weight but it took 2 hours 5 minutes to cook.
We had -
Roast dinner for five.
Chicken fajitas for four.
Chicken and bacon pie for five.
Risotto for three.
And three chicken salad sandwiches.

Two adults, the secondary school kids. Maybe we just don't eat much so our portions are small.

@Kendodd

Did you make stock?

I did, and the risotto (made with dried soup mix, barley etc, not rice) was made with the stock. The chicken skin was crisped in the oven and cut up on top so it actually have very little chicken meat in it.

Well, that's hardly a "chicken meal" if all you do was cook a veggie risotto and sprinkled Chicken skin on it...

That's like saying you made bacon sandwich from a pat of butter...

Mother of God

My lot would of rioted

Kendodd · 19/04/2021 21:25

Sorry are you looking for a medal? I think it's absurd to stretch some rather boring meat that far. Why not have a decent dinner and then go veggie the rest of the week? I'd rather do that than be assigning thirty grams of chicken per head.
And one medium chicken breast is only enough for fajitas for four if you want to be known as extremely mean with food.

RuggerDownHere · 19/04/2021 21:27

I want to see photographic evidence of how big these portions are. I have two teen sons, there is no way I can make all of that out of one fucking chicken.

It is from Friends, Monica makes a post Thanksgiving turkey sandwich which has an extra piece of bread in the middle soaked in gravy IIRC.
LubaLuca · 19/04/2021 21:29

Scratchings on top of a risotto is not making a chicken-based dinner for 3 Grin

Kendodd · 19/04/2021 21:29

I even did some foraging for the risotto, well, if you count picked some wild garlic leaves.

Ooh a MN magic chicken thread. Lovely.

PickAChew · 19/04/2021 21:31

So the chicken risotto was nothing of the sort, then. Neither chicken nor risotto. It was just a very thick broth.

Isn’t the whole point of risotto, that it’s made with rice?!
mayblossominapril · 19/04/2021 21:31

We used to have a dish called hunt the chicken growing up because so little meat went in!
A struggle to stretch a normal roast beyond 4 portions, 2 sandwiches and the rest for the cat
I did do well with 4 chicken breast this week. Cock au van for 3, jambalaya for 6 and biryani for 6. The last two were heavily padded out with veggies as I’m trying to increase the veg intake.

RJnomore1 · 19/04/2021 21:31

Christ we had a chicken that took one hour 50 to cook yesterday, we managed 3 roast dinners and one sandwich today then I’ve boiled it up for chicken and rice soup and picked the bones and seriously it would not have gone any further no matter what I did.

My chicken actually SAID 4 portions on it. Yours can’t have been much bigger?

RJnomore1 · 19/04/2021 21:32

Barley risotto is a thing it’s called orsotto or something?

titchy · 19/04/2021 21:33

One chicken breast, tin refried beans, one yellow pepper, one red pepper, a bucket of cheese, tub of guacamole, tub of sour cream, red onion, mushrooms, 8 tortillas. That's plenty for 4 surely?!

QueenPaw · 19/04/2021 21:33

Someone did the MN chicken on here with pics.. I'll find the link

Kendodd · 19/04/2021 21:34

It is but I didn't know what else to call it. It wasn't soup because it was thicker... like risotto. :)

Why bother with the chicken at all? It's not going to add anything to a meal in such small quantities.
Kendodd · 19/04/2021 21:38

I would say the most children per person was on the roast dinner and even then it would have only been 20% of the meal max. This would be a completely normal amount for us. I guess we like veg!

I actually find that quite wasteful op, a large chicken lasts me 3 weeks easily.

Kittykat93 · 19/04/2021 21:41

1 chicken breast between 4 people..that's fucking hilarious 😂 my three year old gets given more than the portions you give op

Kendodd · 19/04/2021 21:41

Sorry not children! Chicken!
