With my MN chicken I made 17 meals and three sandwiches.

It can be done!
Large chicken, don't know the weight but it took 2 hours 5 minutes to cook.
We had -
Roast dinner for five.
Chicken fajitas for four.
Chicken and bacon pie for five.
Risotto for three.
And three chicken salad sandwiches.

Two adults, the secondary school kids. Maybe we just don't eat much so our portions are small.

No.

@ArianaDumbledore

Wow, that actually sounds very glutenous to me. I just pop on a slide show of cooked chicken and we all sit and think chickeny thoughts.

😂🤣

CrazyHorse · 19/04/2021 23:07

Why not just grate your chicken and put it in the freezer, then you could get a pinch out at a time, sprinkle it on some veg or rice or pasta and your chicken could last you a whole year. Make some stock with the carcass, pour it into ice cube trays to freeze and you could still be having that bad boy of a chicken in 2025.

@BaggoMcoys

So do some people really eat just one single fajita as their whole meal? I'd be starving!
On MN one sausage is glutenous when shared between a family of 5.. a single fajita is terribly greedy!
osbertthesyrianhamster · 19/04/2021 23:11

@caringcarer

I cooked extra large chicken 2.2kg and had roast chicken for 4. A small portion left for chicken tikka masala for 2. We are probably a bit greedy but I could never make it stretch to all those meals. I might boil carcase for chicken and vegetable soup though.
That's not greedy? FFS.
ArianaDumbledore · 19/04/2021 23:14

Controversial opinion but Chicken fajita bake is superior to traditional chicken fajitas.

osbertthesyrianhamster · 19/04/2021 23:14

@OhShitShit

Jesus.

I just ate a whole chicken leg for my dinner.

Gluttonous. Bitch.

And I threw the bones in the bin instead of cracking them for the marrow.

Where do I go to flagellate myself? (with a chickenskin whip?)

You threw them out?! You could have made a stock for 50 out of them.

You should send this in to Take a Break as a top tip. Do they pay more if accompanied by photos

Or dust. You can bulk it out with dust. I keep saying this on every competitive under eating thread because people need to know just how much you can do with dust. My dog loves it, often licks the floors.

userxx · 19/04/2021 23:21

@Kendodd

I must be weird because I’d do a breast per person

Too much chicken!
A whole chicken breast on a fajita! It would fill it up completely there'd be no room for all the rest.

Do you have one fajita per person ?

Frownette · 19/04/2021 23:25

@willstarttomorrow

Chicken? Surely you just start with a stone (obscure fairy tale reference for old people).
That brings back vague memories...can't remember which fairy tale, though
PickAChew · 19/04/2021 23:28

@Flibbitygibbit

We had a large chicken and there were 3 of us and the cat. We had a roast and I chucked the rest away . Cat loves it though tbf.
I hope you're joking about throwing perfectly good meat away because that's just obscene, otherwise.
Voice0fReason · 19/04/2021 23:34

Your chicken risotto was neither chicken nor risotto.
And I do wonder if all 5 recipients of the chicken & bacon pie actually had a piece of chicken in their slice.

I don't actually see the point in trying to stretch it that far. I'd rather have a cheese and salad sandwich than I would have a scraping of chicken.
And a veggie pie and risotto would be fine.

JellyTeapot · 19/04/2021 23:55

@Frownette I think it's called Stone Soup.

Probably contains as much protein as homeopathic chicken risotto Grin

Blankscreen · 20/04/2021 00:15

I don't see the point of having so little meat. Tonight I did fajitas for 5 people.

Cooked a 1kg pack of chicken breast, 3 peppers , 2 onions and some iceberg salad as well as the condiments.

The whole lot was devoured and they could probably have eaten more

Dh and DSS have 4 wraps each.

Da has 3, I have 2 and DD has 1.

I don't get how adults eat so little

Gingerkittykat · 20/04/2021 00:22

I don't understand why people get so get up about the whole Mumsnet chicken thing. Obviously if a chicken is making 17 meals and 3 sandwiches then the portions will be tiny. Some people eat a lot of meat and some choose to eat less.

MrsRockAndRoll · 20/04/2021 07:06

Risotto with soup mix (not rice)

I usually only have one (big) fajita, as do most of my family. People can have as many and as much as they want, as with other meals, the food dishes are put on the table and people help themselves. We usually always have leftovers that go in the bin.

I do hold my hands up to the bolognese though. My husband thinks it needs more meat but then I think it needs more veg so I guess I'm getting it about right for our family. Sometimes I even use veggie mince Shock

Why do you just not put chicken in then and reduce the waste? It seems weird to hold yourself up as someone who can squeeze five meals out of one chicken but then bin loads of the other stuff you made in order to do that.
Bluntness100 · 20/04/2021 07:36

If this is real, op, just eat the chicken. Enjoy it, then eat veggie the rest of the time, this eating veggie and having a sliver of chicken each is fairly pointless,

And if the chicken makes uo 20 percent of your meal, and it’s about a quarter of a breast each then you’re having quite small meals. By that reckoning you must habe half an average potato each, and then one other small portion of veg.

Megan2018 · 20/04/2021 07:40

We eat a whole large chicken in one meal, family of 3 plus cat. Life is too short to save chicken!

fairlyurgentdresshelpneeded · 20/04/2021 07:43

Well done @Kendodd. I am genuinely, truly humbled by your approach to meat consumption. If I had a Blue Peter badge, it would be winging its way to you as we speak. Thank you, on behalf of us all, for showing us the light. You are truly a goddess among women.

Why would putting more chicken in reduce the waste? Surely it would just change the proportions of the waste?
