ADs, grab your thermals, long johns and winter woolies, we're finally off to drown our sorrows at the Sleeping Swan!

I've just looked at today's map.
Totted up the cases in the neighbourhoods that have a high enough rate to disclose. So 14 cases left across the 23 neighbourhoods of 0-2 cases, so at least a third can't have any cases in the past 7 days.

Between the chance of being exposed to a case and now being 2-3 weeks past round 1 of the vaccine, it really is tough mustering any patience for substantial restrictions for at least 2 more months!

I checked Zoe today. 11 people in my entire county suspected positive cases, and given the high number of care homes, I’m guessing I’ve more chance of bumping into a Martian than a covid case.

dillite · 20/04/2021 18:25

I have heard of Zoe but don't have it/ use it.

I am so sick and tired of this scaremongering bullshit. It will never stop, will it? It feels like no matter what progress happens, the government come up with fresh propaganda to keep everyone scared.

DrRamsesEmerson · 20/04/2021 19:00

You can check the figures without being on the app - I often do.

A Martian
Someone in a similar outfit, but pink, got on my Tube today.
SloeSummer · 20/04/2021 19:07

I'm probably being tired and OTT but is the football stuff designed to distract from vax passports etc?

Yes.

Cba to find the job ad and need to not look at a screen

But if this is true, applications will be in this week

Presumably they already have a list of candidates.

Scots care home resident ‘held down and vaccinated against her will’ as two workers suspended
The Care Inspectorate warned that unless there is marked improvement at Millport Care Centre it will cancel the home’s registration.

Taswama · 20/04/2021 21:14

That is shocking Mercy

BogRollBOGOF · 20/04/2021 22:55

We were so lucky with the home that my relative lived in for 20 years. They really did their best with quality of life.
I've never been able to face watching things like Panorama exposés. Not through lack of caring, and they are so important at provoking change, but just so distressing to watch when you've had a close relative living in the care system and no capacity for their own autonomy.

Mind you, since having children, I've struggled with things like Children in Need night. It does't take much to get me going!

I wonder if any of you can help me. I'm trying to compile a list of quotes from sage documents etc of the more dystopian messages from 2020. I'm going to do a quiz with friends and family (by zoom obviously) called '1984 or 2020' and people have to separate sage messages from quotes from George Orwell. I've got the main ones about people not feeling sufficiently threatened but are there any others? I will of course share the full list and answers when I'm done if anyone wants to play along.

Worldgonecrazy · 21/04/2021 09:42

I’m nit familiar enough with 1984 but things like capital city putting in 187000 cameras to keep its citizens safe (Moscow), government saying it’s not ok to hug parents, etc all seem dystopian. Maybe get some stills from the film with posters (if there are any) or make some copies of what they would have looked like, versus real posters today.

CruCru · 21/04/2021 12:06

I’m seeing one positive - the news is going on about this football thing (which I’m not interested in but that is okay) and it’s pushed Coronavirus down in the list of stories. Looking at the Times, Coronavirus is the seventh story. I think that might be the way out of lockdown - just not covering it to the exclusion of all other things.

In other news - I went on a walk with my friend and her two dogs yesterday. Both my children got to hold a lead which was lots of fun.

Then we went to the pub for lunch. We had to stand and queue but not for very long and the staff were cheerful and friendly.

Today we are going to a lovely beachside restaurant for lunch / dinner. I might have some rosé.

BogRollBOGOF · 21/04/2021 12:40

I'm glad the news is diversifying. Cases are low, people are being vaccinated. It all undermines the need for intrusive measures.

Feeling slightly lost today. DH doing an online conferenve so there's a load of annoying background noise. No external distractions. I've been out in the last two days, and have a couple of mum-taxi things at the end of the week.

I will go for a run in 2% when my battery is up to 80%...
Not helped by feeling tender after returning to weights classes after a 4m gap.
Each time I felt like I was making progress, it all stopped again Hmm

Sloe
Christ almighty. Not a surprise really but wtf have we come to.

ISaySteadyOn · 21/04/2021 12:53

All I want is to be alone in the house for more than 15 minutes. I can't think. Or relax.

WouldBeGood · 21/04/2021 13:05

Overheard at B&M checkout:

“That better be the last lockdown, I’m not going through that again”

“Yes, we just have to learn to live with it,”

😃

CruCru · 21/04/2021 17:23

The beach restaurant was amazing.

Plus I’ve booked tickets for me and my daughter to see the Nutcracker at Sadlers Wells in December. It’s a little way off but we’re really excited. She does ballet and plays a couple of instruments so it’s her sort of thing.

I really hope you get to go. I would be excited too!

CruCru · 21/04/2021 17:58

Thank you, I do too. Supposedly the performance has already been rescheduled because of lockdown so it’s been a hard time for ballet bancers

CruCru · 21/04/2021 17:58

Sorry, dancers. I can’t type and I can’t spell

Here it is
